Where is the concerted response to what is going on these days from our elected officials? They suck? The top names on the D side should be out there in unison decrying Trumps lies on the separation of kids from parents thing. BUt they are nowhere to be found.

This is the time to unify the party with a message and we get crickets.

Good point. News is stuck mainly on Manafort and NK. There have been plenty of pieces on the immigration issue, but nothing yet, that I’ve seen, from Perez or Schumer, etc.

Trump is the master of sucking the air out of a room with one uproar after another. It's all bullshit, of course, but he tries to shit it out faster than it can be cleaned up. He's in the ultimate position to do it, too.

You're right, Presidents command attention. In retrospect, one must examine the losses occurred during Obama's terms. What happened, what failed, what can be done better? I suspect much of it stems from Democrats touting the economic recovery which offends the truth of how trickle down has been crushing us. When people are hurting they don't want to hear how good the economy is for the rich. For "others". They want to know you're looking out for them and I don't think the message could connect. It lacked appeal.

Now that a Republican is President, Democrats have opportunity to speak down on the economy in ways the people can connect with. Find a problem, offer the solution, and shout it from the hilltops.

Frustratingly they won't. Some people say Dems wouldn't be noticed. I had no idea who Merkley was until he went out. Beto is all over the news, more than Pelosi and Schumer.

It seems that more are getting out like Merkley and Beto, but the leadership sits giving the famous elitist impression, not wanting to seem "populist" I suppose, even with children being torn from parents. Making statements isn't good enough. I wonder if a newer generation of Dems will get out more among the people in significant ways?

We did have a recovery, right? And why did we need one, anyway? It was apparently good enough that the voters didn't think about the second question.

So they voted for more trickle down, again, for all the usual culture warrior reasons, too. Economics are peripheral to conservative voters but central to the insincere lootocracy preying on them. Whatever reason people vote GOP always comes with moar trickle down.

Eh, no. state elections are what matter. state elections are what determine voting districts, which determines who wins national elections. This is why, after 2008, the republican party (After spending something like a measly $30 million on about 30-40 state elections across a handful of states) was able to redraw districts and now command a majority across the country, despite turning out a significant minority share of votes, year after year after year.

The republicans have never been as unpopular as they are now, by ideology and by vote, but they win elections because they focused on the "small potatoes" 10 years ago.

Remember that this country is currently in thrall under Casino Mussolini by deign of a mere ~100k votes across a handful of districts, in tiny corners of 3 states, that historically flip on a whim.
