No need to be sorry. You owe me nothing. Thank you for doing me the favor of answering my questions. I suspect others may benefit from this information as well.
I've had good luck with PCWizard2007 and the free version of Everest 2.0.
I'll try those tonight. I didn't realize there was a free version of Everest.

Also, I went on the Speedfan bug tracking page and found that a number of other people are having the same high 1.35 million RPM problem as I am. Some have ASUS boards. Some have Gigabyte boards. I added my problem plus configuration to the bug's comments.

The big ones for me were massive I/O capability (x16+x8+x16, plus all the SATA RAID), support for ECC RAM and Quad Core. I'm using an E6600 at the moment but when the quads drop in price, I'll upgrade. In general, this board seems highly upgradable. I expect to use it for at least 4-5 years though various components will be upgraded during that time as prices come down and finances allow.

I know most gamers deride ECC but gaming is maybe 15% of what I do on the computer. I'm a programmer type and I do some things where memory errors are simply not acceptable (encryption, compression stuff for example). I've seen too many errors with unprotected RAM. When my CRC/MD5/SHA1's etc. are variable over multiple runs on the same data, I tend to get a little annoyed.

12ME-N680DQ6-1002R Rev.1
12ME-N680DQ6-2001R Rev.2

For those with the board, is this Revision code printed on the outside of the box??

Yes Sir Mr. darrenfirewire...

It does indeed say rev. 1 on the top of the box next to the handle on my box...though without the 12ME in front?

Crap. I tried to upgrade to F4f with @BIOS. When I went to reboot, the fans spun up, the keyboard lights came on. The CD light flashed. No video. No anything else. No beeps. I tried reseating the DVI and making sure it was extra tight. I tried using an analog adapter to use the VGA port on my monitor. I've power cycled several times including leaving it off for an hour. Nothing seems to help. I thought the Dual BIOS was supposed to save me from this.

Is there any way out of this?

Accuses everyone else of being a NOOB while he's the one that can't get his 4 boards to work. Go figure.

Anyway, what sort of temperature readings are you guys averaging on your core readings? I saw someone mention 45C in one post earlier, are the rest of you really able to average such a low temp reading? And if so, are you using stock or specialized cooling? Thx for any feedback.

Don't know if this will help but have you tryed unplugging the pc and removing the battery for a couple minutes. Let us know if this helps. Anyone else with any ideas? Hopefully we can get OP back up and running.

Try briefly shorting out the CLR_CMOS jumper which is located next to the battery. Nothing fancy, just turn off the board, use a screwdriver to lightly touch both pins at once.

Starting to wonder if Gigabyte is ever going to release a new offical BIOS for this board. Getting tired of the veri data pool to black screen stuff. Don't happen all the time, but enough to make you wonder if rev 1 is a lemon.

Straight from the horses mouth...

Answer : Dear Customer,

I am sorry, but there is no trade-in program. Revision 1.x is compatible with current Quad-core processors with a BIOS upgrade. Rev 2.x was designed for optimization of current and future Quad core processors. As with any overclocking, it is not gauranteed and depends on your other supporting components.

Thank you for choosing Gigabyte products

Question : Will you be offering a trade-in program for those who own rev. 1.0 motherboards to upgrade to the revsision 2.0 motherboards? The reason I ask is that users of the rev 1.0 boards have had some problems with QuadCore overclocking, yet this board is supposed to be "QuadCore Optimized?" What changes will the rev 2.0 Board address that are not covered by the rev 1.0 Boards?

Thank you Sincerely,

Ernest

I get 45C on my overclocked E6600 running at 3GHz with a Tuniq Tower in my Lian Li PC-201B....

Sounds to me like the EVGA issue only Gigabyte don't stand behind there product the way EVGA does. In any event it still would be nice to get a new offical BIOS update.

WOW.... I need to check the return policy with New Egg and see if I can ship mine back.. This really stinks.. I was under the impression this board would be fully supported for quad cores and over clocking..

Yup. I just mailed mine back to ClubIT. Here's to waiting for v2, and hoping there's not going to be needing a v3.

Hello Mr. CDfire.

Thanks for the heads up on the "Final" F4 BIOS. I've been playing with that F4 BIOS for a little while now, and I have Good News and Bad News. The Good News is that the F4 seems to have a fair bit more headroom for OC, both for the CPU and Memory. I could consistently get it to load at 371x9 with unlinked memory at 1066 (5-5-5-18-2T). However, the Bad News is that it still WILL NOT COMPLETELY SHUTDOWN!!

Hello To Gary!! What the heck are those guys in Taiwan doing with these BIOS revisions? They take two steps forward and at least one backward. They've been told about this problem of No Shutdown since the F4f BIOS (both sub-revisions), but they release the Final F4 with that known problem. If they could just get the OC improvements of the Final F4 and the shutdown aspects of the F4e melded together, we will have a dandy BIOS. I'd sure like to hear their response to all of this.

In the meantime, I'm going to stick with the F4e BIOS, since having to manually shutdown the PC each time you reboot is a large pain in the butt. TheBeagle

Ack, still haven't fixed that? I'm glad I resisted the urge to update and stuck with the F4e. I've been able to hit 487x7 up to 389x9 (both at 1.5Vcore) on my E6600 with unlinked memory the same as TheBeagle, so I'm not too terribly excited by "more headroom", I'm currently running 24/7 at 385x9 (3465MHz) with temp max'ing out around 55C.

Fallen Kell,

Nice! I actually got a Tuniq Tower cooler for this unit too, but had the HARDEST time getting it to fit, not to mention the rubber tunnel it comes with doesn't stretch to the closest rear fan because the CPU slot is further forward on this GA design ... so i just have the stock intel fan on there for now. Are you running yours without the rubber tunnel?

Hello Mr. Ignis.

Well, we are all sure pleased that you found the correct information before the meltdown. Please do us all a favor and don't ever accept a job as the guy who has the responsibility of launching or not launching a ballistic missile. LOL. TheBeagle
