Rev 1 support is still here but no one really knows when the new BIOS will be released. In his last post Gary mentioned that the BIOS needs a lot more work than expected and this is the last that we?ve heard about it. It is the first time that I have a mobo and no new BIOS has come out for it in 6 months, Woooaaaa

With the X38 boards out there and the upcoming 780s & X48s, the resources allocated by Gigabyte and others for the support of the old 680 boards will grow thin. From my standpoint it is doubtful that we will get support for the Yorkfields, especially the >3GHz high-end parts. I believe that we will get support for Wolfdale but who cares ! At this point it wouldn?t come as a surprise if more manufacturers, Gigabyte included, decide to go the eVGA way and officially drop support for Yorkfield.

So far only ASUS and MSI seem to do good. Gary mentioned that Yorkfield works on the Striker and MSI is regularly updating their cpu support list providing adequate info to their customers on the course of penryn evaluation. As always there is no word from Gigabyte as to how they?re doing.

The 780s are expected as early as next week with many sites out there already taking pre-orders for the ASUS Striker II Formula.

Off topic: Got my Razer Lycosa keyboard the other day. It is a nice keyboard overall but the blue LED's are not bright enough. I still tend to look at the keyboard when I type and I can't see what the buttons are! I am returning it. Unless someone wants to buy it here. It is backordered on the Razer website until Dec 3.

Anybody know if this can be. I have two systems with rev. 2 mobos. Home is a E6850, Work is a Q6600 B3 stepping. The work system has had nothing but problems. I checked the bios version for both mobos and found that my home system, which is OC'ed to 3.6GHz, has been rock solid and the bios is v F3. The work system, which is not OC'ed, has only been running for two weeks out of 10. Windows XP Pro on both and work system posts and gets to the login password and just loops back after entering password, and is bios ver FA.

I though the bios difference was strange since the only bios for rev 2 boards on the Gigabyte site is FA. So, I was going to try to flash F3 on the work sys to see if that would help.

Any help is appreciated. I have been trying to get this sys to run for weeks now.

Good Evening Mr. MFarbman.

I would proceed VERY cautiously in this matter!! To the best of my knowledge, ONLY Rev. 1 boards have a letter+numeral designation for their BIOS revisions. Rev. 2 boards have a letter+letter designation. I would check with Gigabyte Tech Support, or better yet, Mr. Gary, BEFORE I would attempt any type of cross-over CMOS flashing.

There are known cases where a board will accept the cross-over BIOS for flashing, but then on reboot, the CMOS is trashed, and the board is unusable. Please be careful with that endeavor, since there do not seem to be any N680i boards available as a replacement if you mess one up. Good Luck, and best regards. TheBeagle :frown:

Mr mfarbman,

I totally agree with TheBeagle. The letter/number designation in for rev 1 boards only. Have also in mind that the F3 was released before the rev 2 mobos. If you try flashing your BIOS with it you will be putting your mobo in grave danger. I can?t understand how you have a rev 2 board working with it already but I wouldn?t push my luck too far if I were you. Since you are leaning towards a BIOS update it may be worth having a look at the FBb beta. You can find a link to it in one of Gary?s posts (as always) on page 61. Keep us posted on how you are doing.

It was funny seeing that go up just a few hours after this - Blog 680i -

Anyway, there is just no way that the QX9650 or even QX6850 is going to work properly on either of the Gigabyte 680i boards. The updated BIOS code from NV did allow the boards to POST, but no go on stability. The only 680i board that even thinks about running Yorkfield correctly is the Striker Extreme. Unfortunately, even raising the FSB by more than a couple of MHz results in lockups. We will have our first 780i production board arriving next week, just remember, besides new circuitry and some further memory controller improvements, the chipset is basically a 680i with a PCIe 2.0 bridge chip. NV will not have a new ground up design until the 790i (early codename) series launches next year. We have no idea what the motherboard manufacturers are going to do for the current 680i owners, although I doubt nothing will be done.

Hi all, long time no see. This is crappy news and I would hope that Gigabyte and NVIDIA make things right on this. I still have not replaced this motherboard yet but am keeping my eyes open for a good replacement. All's I know for sure is my next motherboard will not be a Gigabyte nor NVIDIA board unless by some slight chance these two false advertisers make good on there products and replace these boards for free, with boards that actually do as they claim.

I think it really is time for a class action for if someone don?t do it now these big companies will keep getting away with false claims on there products. It?s one thing if NVIDIA and Intel wish to keep acting like little kiddies with each other, but to flat out false advertise, in print on the box mind you, is as far as I know against the law and the bottom line is the box I bought has Gigabytes name on it so there just as much to blame for falling sucker to NVIDIA?s claims and passing on such false claims onto us.

Either way if they don?t make this right they will never again see a dollar of my money nor the dollars of the many friends I recommend such products to. This may not mean much to such large companies for I am nobody, but thanks to the power of the internet, word spreads fast and it won?t be to long before people wake up and say good bye to such companies.

MSI updated their cpu support list once again. Now their P6N Diamond officially supports the E8190 & E8200 Wolfdale cpus & the Q9450 Yorkfield cpu. All 3 cpus run @2,66GHz. Nice...........

Good Evening Everyone and Especially Mr. RT.

Anger which is converted into violence is the devil's workshop. Of course, we all have had occasions where we were under stress. Now "Stress" can be loosely defined as "that state of confusion when one's mind overrides the body's basic desire to choke the living crap out of some thermus rectus who desperately needs it" (I cleaned up a few minor portions of that quote).

May I suggest that corporate entities, especially Gigabyte, have adopted a sort of corporate arrogance with regard to their "puffing assertions" concerning their products, and have now arrived at an "expectation" that their unfulfilled products' performance promises will be either ignored, tolerated or forgotten in due course. However, the REAL EVIL is the fact that many commentators, unfortunately including AnandTech, are feeding at the trough of lucrative advertising funding to a degree that makes it is nearly impossible for any truly negative commentary to be forthcoming, lest that funding stream dry up, and others (who are willing to keep their mouths shut) will benefit from re-directed $$$ to their bank accounts.

It would appear that Gigabyte is a MAJOR violator of their word, and has an even more deplorable level of customer service, particularly RMA service. They (Gigabyte) are over "there" (Taiwan) and likely feel that they are insulated from the USA, Canada, and other countries, which might hold them accountable for their compounded untruths (a/k/a lies) to their customers. Query, I bet they would want to the our best friend if Communist China decided to take them back (by force or otherwise). Make NO mistake about it, there would be some huffing and puffing by the western powers in such an event, but NO ONE would be willing to start WW III over the fate of Taiwan!!

So we, the consuming public of the west, are left to take whatever sub-standard products that Gigabyte wants to purvey to us, and we are told to enjoy it that way. The true dishonesty is the lack of intestinal fortitude on the part of the numerous technical media organizations (again, including AnandTech) to be willing to "Tell It Like It Is!" That lack of truth leaves the rest of us to trying to decipher the scraps of information that sometimes become available to ferret out the truth regarding some of these half-baked products (GA-N680SLI-DQ6). However, not ALL of these manufacturers are that devious, a few even stood by their products, and replaced/repaired their N680i boards to meet their advertising claims. Unfortunately, Gigabyte was NOT one of those honest and forthright manufacturers!

Query Again, where was AnandTech to call Gigabyte on that failure to do the right thing?

Those are just some jolly holiday musings for your individual and collective digestion. Best regards to everyone - Blessed Christmas! TheBeagle

MSI updated their cpu support list again. The 3GHz QX9650 is now marked as not supported while the Q9450 is again under testing ?!?!. Gigabyte is still in mute mode.

hey a quick q about the mobo settings again.. i have a XFX 8800 GTX XXX and its suppose to be clocked at GPU (germetric domain) 630 and (shader) 1350mhz also the real clock should be clocked at 1000 mhz now in everest its says my geometric clock is 621 mhz and shader is still the same and the real clock is at 999 now i know there isnt much a few mhz here and there but its bothering me =P would it have something to do with my bios settings i went in there and it says PCIE x16 1 clock (mhz)[Auto] 100
now this is the same for PICE x8
and PCIE x16 Slot 2
should i change this or is this not the problem
not a hige issue but u know its bugging =P

Good Afternoon Mr. RT.

Although I have not messed around with that particular multiplier, it would seem that you are probably on the right track by increasing the base clocking rate, since (as I best understand the architecture of these matters), any further enhancement of speed is accomplished through a multiplying ratio applied to the base clock setting. May I suggest that you increase the base setting by a couple of clicks (2 or 3) and see what happens in Everest as a result of that adjustment.

If that works, and you decide to fool around with it a bit more, I'd be interested to hear what your results might be. Good luck with your endeavors. Best regards to everyone - Blessed Christmas! TheBeagle

I am not to sure Everest is correct RT. Mine says 594 when stock is 600. Yet in GPU-z it shows it at 600. Everest is a great program but I have a hard time trusting it for it also had my 12 volt showing at 1 volt in a earler version of which is was not correct. Also the cpu temps are a couple degrees differant then what coretemp says. So whos to say what program is right and what one is wrong for sure.

Mr. rt182,

This happened to me in GPU-z also. At the bottom of the GPU-z program just select your other video card where the drop down arrow is and then should show up as "SLI-enabled". A similar problem: in 3DMark06, it shows that I have SLI disabled, but my score suggests otherwise.
