I've been using Everest since the early days when it was called Aida32. Many things have changed since then but Everest continues Aida's legacy as a great program, especially for testing mem performance. Unfortunately as most programs out there it's not perfect. I've also found it to be inaccurate on some occasions, mostly with frequencies and voltages. What happens normally is that Lavalys will come up with a new ver that corrects this problems but as soon as a new chipset, GPU or sensor chip comes out it's the same problems all over again.

GPU-Z on the other hand is a new program and some things like multi-GPU setups may not be reported correctly yet. Still it's quite accurate with current graphics boards and it has already had a few updates that have improved it and also added some new features. Latest release is ver 0.1.3 Dec 6 2007 !

There is no answer as to what program is right or wrong. What happens is that all these programs excel in some fields and fail miserably in others. That's why we have to use many of them in order to know how different devices/subsystems perform.

I just want a dang refund or exchange on a newer board at this point. I went from an avid poster on here and back to lurker. I'm tired of checking and finding no progress from Gigabyte and as bad as I hate to say it, it makes me want to start buying Dell. I know.. those are evil words to say and I have NEVER bought abig brand name and always enjoyed making my own. I know Dell and the large players have the power to crush people like Gigabyte and I'm just a small fish in the pond. I've stated it several times but I will never buy a Gigabyte product again and will always sway people away from them going forward. I bought $400k worth of computer product in the last month for my company and not one piece was Gigabyte... That's my motto going forward and to all of the people in my circle of I.T. associates. I can't run a business or come home to this kind of support. Again.. I know I'm a small fish but never again!

I already signed the online petition posted earlier and will continute to lurk here until people quit posting..

Thanks to everyone who is still posting but I'm so burnt out on this board now.

Like Blazer said, I don't think any of these programs are 100% right in all readings. I use them all just like everyone else here, but I don't put 100% stock in any of them.

Mr Smitty,

I'm also a small fish but too many of us do have some power. Just the day before yesterday I made an order for 18000$ worth of equipment for my company too. Gigabyte got a much deserving 0%. Like you I can't recommend Gigabyte to anyone, nor am I to trust them again. I will continue to post on this thread for as long as there's a meaning to it.

Hello Mr rt182,

Pardon all of us for not replying earlier but spirits are not that high anymore. You can rest assure that most of us continue to monitor this thread and haven?t abandoned ship, yet. Unfortunately there is little hope left and with all the negative reports coming from all around the web I don?t believe that there?s a living soul here that expects things to change for the better. This is why this thread is slowing down.

As for the F5g, the last known BIOS for the rev 1 board is the F5f so if you got your hands on the F5g then this is news. Did the guys from Gigabyte informed you on what?s been changed since the last beta ? More to it, have you noticed any improvement with your situation ?

I put two sets of these: KVR800D2E5K2/4G - 4GB 800MHz DDR2 ECC CL5 DIMM (Kit of 2) on my board a few minutes ago. Running Win XP x64 with no problem. It sees the whole 8GB. I've also got Fedora 8 running in VMWare Player. I allocated 4GB to it but it seems to only see about 3.6GB. The Fedora image is only 32-bit though so that might be a maximum for it.

It's nice to see something working with this board...

MSI updated their cpu support list for their P6N Diamond. Now this board officially supports the QX6850.

Well I guess that is good news. Now we just need Gigabyte to get off their a$$es and let us know what is going on.

Mr raisinjack,

There is a thread about this here in the forums : EVGA 780i upgrade promotion? and there is also a post by Mr nippyjun over at The Un-Official NVIDIA 680i Owners are Screwed Thread. This is where I?ve seen it first and it came as no surprise. eVGA are known for their support unlike some other makers. If you follow the links you?ll end up here. Unfortunately the link to eVGA?s upgrade program is dead but I?ve had a glance at it yesterday and things are exactly as described in Techpowerup.

Things are getting quite interesting. ASUS & MSI support the QX6850 and eVGA has an upgrade program. All that remains to be seen is where we stand.

PErsonally I think if Gigabyte don't do something simular to EVGA that we should let our voice be heard over at NewEgg and other places in the review section when the Gigabyte 780I boards show up there. Let the people know what there getting into when they buy a Gigabyte board. Balls in Gigabytes court, back your product or get slammed right back.

Hmm thought I'd try here before this thread totaly dies along with our faith in Gigabyte, and the belief that our MoBos will provide us something other than grief.

My BIOS is showing that my mirror RAID has degraded and split the two drives free of each other. It was set up on the NV Sata 1.0 & 1.2 and i cant see any option to rebuild or repair the RAID as is the case with the Gigabyte RAID utility. I've never had to repair a RAID before so i was hoping someone here could point me in the right direction.

Hello Mr. PB.

Your description of the RAID arry to which you refer is a bit unclear. I see that you have RAID 0 (striped) and a RAID 1 (mirror) arrays. which you indicate are all attached to the NV controller (not the Gigabyte controller). If the array which as "separated" is the mirrored (1) array, then as part of your installed NV drivers you should have installed a RAID controller utility. If you don't have one installed, then go to the GB web site and download the latest driver set and install it on your PC, that should give you a repair utility to visually see your drives' status in Vista.

Vista itself should be trying to repair a RAID 1 array, and restore the mirror functioning. However, if the failed array is the striped array, you are likely up the well known creek without the proverbial paddle, in regard to being able to recover any data on that striped array. That's just the sorry state of affairs with striped drives. If that's the case, I sure wouldn't attempt to reuse those drives until I learned, to a certainty, which drive dropped out of the array and WHY! If you don't ascertain the reason for the striped array failure, and correct it, then it's almost sure to happen again, usually sooner rather than later.

Usually, a failed striped array must be rebuilt from within the POST RAID utility that pops up during bootup. Re-read the owner's manual for the N680i board before you go messing around with those dedicated drives so you don't inadvertently foul up a good array or drive in the rebuild process. Good luck with your situation.

Best regards to everyone - Blessed Christmas! TheBeagle

Thansk for your reply Mr TheBeagle.

It is my 2x350 in RAID 1 that I'm refering to. I could not find any RAID utility, and my drivers have all been updated recently, I supose is why I was left to ask here.

I'd backed up my user data and anthing else that I felt important before digging for answers and found the system wouldn't start the automatic rebuild till I had cleared the slave of the pair of its RAID data. So now I supose I wait to see if it works or if I've picked the wrong drive.

Mr PafetikBezerka,

Unfortunately it seems that there is no nVidia utility that will help you fix your raid or id the hd that caused your array to degrade. There are a couple of threads over at nVidia's forums on the subject but the guys there don't seem to have an answer either. According to what the guys there have posted, the degradation of mirror arrays has been observed on various nVidia based boards, some of them with the 680.

For what is worth here are a couple of links : link1, link2

It seems that this is an ?nVidia? problem that occurs mostly on Vista based systems.

It has been a long time since anyone has posted so ill post something up dealing with this board, which i also have. I was told this board cannot handle all 4 ram slots being filled up. Right now i have 2GB (2x1GB) OCZ DDR2 1066MHz SLI ready ram and im thinking of adding another of the same (4GB total) but some had told me this board cant handle all 4 slots being filled up and told me im better off get 4GB (2x2GB). Whats the deal here, i thought this board could handle stuff like this? can anyone care to give any ideas? Mr. TheBeagle do you have any saying on this matter?

Hello Mr. AK.

Well, I certainly had all four memory slots filled (1GB x 4) when I had that board, and filling all the slots never gave me any problem. Right now I'm using 4 sticks of G.Skill PC2-8000 2GB memory in my X38 board, and it works just fine. Although I didn't have 8GB of memory in the N680i board, the spec says it can handle that much memory in Vista 64, so I don't know why it wouldn't work. Of course, only a 64 bit OS can use that much memory. With a total of 4GB in a 32bit OS, you should be just fine - it worked for me. However, somewhere I recall that a few certain types (manufacturer) of memory sticks may have had some problems when 4 sticks were used. I don't recall if the OCZ stuff was one of those types. Maybe you can search (Goggle) to see what you can find on that issue. I used Crucial Ballistix PC2-8500 and never had a problem.

Best regards to everyone - Blessed Christmas! TheBeagle

hmm thank you very much for the in Beagle, as i thought to myself also on why would it be a hassle on the board to use up all the ram slots. And since im sticking to a 32bit OS for now, 4 gigs is what i want to limit my this board to. And since i already have 2gigs of OCZ ram i just dont want them to go to waste thats why i was planning on getting an extra pair (to make it 4gigs).

Mr AK as you can see by the specs in my sig, I have the exact same RAM as you and I have been running 4GB (4x1GB sticks) since I built the system in May and I have had no problems running them at 1066 @ 5,5,5,15T so you should yhave no problems and I might add I have been very happy with this RAM. You may already know this but in the BIOS you can enable the SLI Ready Memory setting and set one of the custom overclocks which I found to be very stable and did make a performance increase but not as good a tweaking things yourself Just remember though if you are sticking to a 32bit OS then you can realistically only expect to access about 3GB of RAM, I wont go into why as I think it has already been addressed in this thread but there are also many other sites out there that explain this. I highly recommend that if you are going to upgrade to 4GB then you go for Vista Ultimate 64bit so you can access all of the 4GB. I have been running it for 6 months now and I am very happy with it.
Hope that helps.
