Gigabyte decided to update their BIOS page for the rev 1 board at last. The new addition is the long overdue F5 official. The new BIOS appeared on their site today but 2007/12/21 is mentioned as the BIOS release date !!!???

There is no mention of Wolfdale or Yorkfield support and the cpu support list remains unchanged. This means that among other things our board does not support the Q6700, E2140, E2160 & E4500 at least not officially.

Gigabyte support is a joke.

Well I hate to be the bearer of bad news and I am sad to say this but I just received a reply from Gigabyte in relation to this board supporting Yorkfield and Wolfdale.

Answer : Dear Sir,

In regards to your issue, we are sorry that the motherbaord does support 1333MHz CPU sncu as E6850, E6750. However, Due to H/W design limitation, the board does not support Intel E8xxx, QX9xxx, FSB 1333 CPUs.

Regards,
GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY

I guess that ends any speculation (or hope) about the future of this board unfortunately.

I have replied to the email requesting the necessaary steps for a full refund or exchange as they have not lived up to what they advertised this product could do and I suggest everyone else here do the same - they cannot be allowed to get away with this.

The product spec website still states - the GIGABYTE GA-N680SLI-DQ6 features several next generation technologies including FSB1333 support for the record-setting Intel® Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors

Not to mention it is plastered all over the box. We all have serious grounds here for a full refund or a free exchange to the new 780i chipset board in my opinion. If anyone knows a contact person that we can all send email to please post it up. Cheers everyone.

Good work GriMRaper,

I am behind you 100% on this and we all are. It just sucks that if it really goes through, I will have to take apart my fully built super PC and be without the motherboard for at leasy a couple weeks. Maybe they can do an Advance replacement.

Guys does the ASUS Nvidia® NF680i SLI chipset motherboards support Wolfdale or Yorkfield?
Also what about the ABIT IN9 32X-MAX? Maybe a beta bios?

If ABIT and ASUS do offer support for the upcoming 45nm CPUs then you guys should get an exchange or a refund form Gigabyte.

Someone should start a worldwide petition.

there is a guy on the abit/Hexus forums with a QX9650 in an IN9 32X using the beta 1.4 BIOS & so far (early days yet) it seems to be working OK.
Mind you he won't get very far in terms of fsb overclocking with a quad on an IN9 32X but of course he has the unlocked multi.

LOL, Advance replacement, where not talking EVGA here, where talking GigaDontGiveACrap. LOL Please let us know GriMRapeR there reply to your responce but I can tell you even if they did do something about the false advertising issue it will be more like a month down time for thats at least how long it takes them to replace anything, plus they don't cross ship like EVGA does.

If a worldwide petition does start up, count me. I think others out there have a right to know what there getting into when they buy Gigabyte and actually I would rather get a refund then get stuck with another half baked Gigabyte product. Alls one has to do is read the latest review on there x48 board to see that Gigabyte is already making false claims saying they have 12-phase design when its really only a 6-Phase.

Hi all,

I have read this thread from the first post made by TheBeagle all the way to page 91 and firstly I would like to thank one and all on top notch posts even more impressive given that there has been over 1800 reply's! I bet you didn't think your post would become this big TheBeagle =)

Anyway I have found the information within the many pages of reply's to be very helpful. I also think the very lest that Gigabyte should be doing is offering a free upgrade to new 780i chipset board and as many have already said, Gigabyte have made it very clear when selling the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 that it supports FSB1333 Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors and as GriMRapeR has said, Gigabyte have advertised this fact all over the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 motherboard box (I still have my box).

I have also followed GriMRapeRs lead and sent Gigabyte an email asking for full refund or a free exchange to the new 780i chipset board, I payed close to $500 Australian for this board and I'm sure as hell not going to let Gigabyte advertise that there board can run FSB1333 Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors and then down the track change there mind because things go pear shaped.

Cheers

Nothing concrete from ASUS or Abit yet but MSI has gone public with Wolfdale support for their 680 board.

nVidia, fix the 680i chipset! petition

Sign me up for an upgrade to a 780 board or a full refund. Please keep us in the loop on their response. I still have my box full of their lies on the outside and I would be thrilled to send it back them. Somehoe I doubt they are going to do this. I wish we had a way of making this well known or some kind of new coverage etc. Gigabyte isn't going to just up and offer free replacements, they don't care. We paid them good money, they learned that our 680i board has bugs (thanks to us) and they improved there hardware and made a 780i board... We just get the big f-YOU and they go on to sell other boards. I hope everyone who buys a new product from them gets a working piece of hardware and not a lemon like we got. I buy a new machine every 3-5 years and when I bought this one I planned on upgrading to a quad core and 1333 down the road as a cheaper upgrade path then ripping it all out and starting all over. What a let down...

I just got a reply this morning but I am far from impressed with the response 9although I am hardly surprised.

Dear Sir ,

First, we are sorry for late reply. As you provide webpage in introduction:

"the GIGABYTE GA-N680SLI-DQ6 features several next generation technologies including FSB1333 support for the record-setting Intel® Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors "

We do supports "1333MHz CPU" such as
Conroe (FSB1333) E6850 , Conroe (FSB1333) E6750 ,E6550

and "Intel® Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors" such as QX6800,QX6700,X6800

In addition, there's only wording on box "supports Intel® Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors".

Should you have any questions, please let us know.

Regards,
GIGABYTE TECHNOLOGY

Are these guys brain dead or do they just have trouble understanding English???

What part of "FSB1333 support for Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad" don't they understand?

They even went as far as to attach a picture of the box with a red circle around the wording - "Support Intel Core 2 Extreme Quad Core Processors" but failed to highlight the FSB1333 part on the box.

I will be replying very shortly but my courtesy has worn too thin for a codial reply. I am sick of these idiots. Will let you know how it goes.

Here is a copy of the reply I just sent them. I am beyond the point of being nice with them anymore.

This is getting ridiculous. Your reply makes absolutely no sense at all. Do you even know what you are talking about?

At least we agree that the website clearly states -

"the GIGABYTE GA-N680SLI-DQ6 features several next generation technologies including FSB1333 support for the record-setting Intel® Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors "

So which one of the 1333MHz CPU's you mentioned in your last reply is an Extreme Quad Core 1333MHz CPU?

Yes I am aware that the board supports some of the Conroe 1333MHz Dual Core CPU's like the E6850, E6750 and E6550 but none of those are Quad core are they.

I am also aware that the board supports Extreme Quad Core QX6700 and the QX6800 (although this is not listed on the CPU support list) as you say but these are FSB 1066MHz CPU's not 1333MHz.

What exactly are you having trouble understanding here?

Gigabyte state on the product webpage that this board supports FSB1333MHz Extreme Quad Core Processors and I'm telling you that it doesn't supoport these CPU's. None of the examples you have provided prove otherwise.

I bought this product (approx $500AU) on the basis that Gigabyte claimed it would support the future 1333MHz Quad Core CPU's and as we now know - it doesn't.

So, I wish to either have the product exchanged or a full refund offered as Gigabyte has not provided me with a product that honours those claims. I am not asking for your generosity, I am asking what is required of you by law.

Do you understand now???? Gigabyte has provided me with a product that cannot do what they claimed it could do and as such I am entitled to a refund or an exchange to a product that can.

As for your reference and attached picture of the product box, I notice that you convienently only highlighted one section. You failed to highlight the 1333MHz sticker to the left of the highlighted area and you failed to show any pictures on the rear of the box which also makes reference to 1333MHz Quad Core.

So I have done you the favour of attahing a picture of the rear of the box to this reply. You will notice the red circled area in the "Product Specifications" section that clearly states - "Intel Core 2 Extreme QUAD Core Processor. Supports 1333/1066/800/533 FSB".

This is a false claim, both on the box and on the product webpage what is so hard to understand about that?

I am aware of how this happened. I am aware that there was a communication failure between Intel and Nvidia when the 680i chipset was created which led to Gigabyte believing that this board would do the future Intel 1333MHz Quad's (Penryn) but none of that is my fault or my concern as a customer of Gigabyte. You have provided me with a product that can not do what you claimed prior to me purchasing it, therefore I am entitled to a refund or an exchange to a product that can.

So again I ask, please provide me with the necessary steps required for Gigabyte to replace my board to one that can take the 1333MHz Extreme Quad COre CPU's and still do SLI or to supply me with a refund.

I await your reply.

I will let you all know when I receive a response.

This was my interaction with them...

Answer : Unfortunatley we only occur warranty service, any replacement you will need to contact your vendor where it was purchased from.
Which processor do you plan on installing, due to chipset limitation the board cannot support all Core 2 Extreme Quad Core processor. The ones which are supported is listed on our cpu support list from our website such as the QX6700(2.66GHz,8MB), the QX 6850 is not supported

Question - 552172
From : Ernest Klock [eklock2000@yahoo.com ]
Sent : 1/4/2008 14:08
Question : I would like to know if you would honor an RMA request for this motherboard, specifically for a replacement part of equal value that performs as this MotherBoard advertises on your product page and packaging. Your website states the following:

"Introduction
Designed for enthusiasts with extreme over-clocking and blistering gaming performance in mind, the GIGABYTE GA-N680SLI-DQ6 features several next generation technologies including FSB1333 support for the record-setting Intel® Core?2 Extreme Quad Core processors and NVIDIA SLI-memory technology."

This board does not support the 1333 FSB Core 2 Extreme Quad Core processor and I would consider that false advertising. I was very much looking forward to using this Board with that processor.

I would be extremely dissapointed if you did not honor my request, and further, your reply will determine whether or not I will ever buy Gigabyte products again in the future.

Sincerely,

Ernest

I also sent an email to their marketing dept. with no response yet.

Yeah, I'm done with Gigabyte. Asus is churning out some fine looking products these days.

Peace,

EK2K

Nice try guys but the outcome was already predetermined. Those responses from Gigabyte verify their total lack of responsibility and add another insult atop their false claims, that of calling us illiterate and stupid.

If somebody wants something from Gigabyte that somebody must be ready to take his case to the court. Personally I don?t think it?s worth it. For me It doesn?t matter anymore if they decide to do anything about our issue or not. Even if they do they can?t do a thing about the endless hours we?ve spent trying to figure out how to make this crap work. There is no compensation for the suffering we?ve put up with during the last months.

As for Gigabyte, I?m officially at war with them. They are done and I?m heading back to ASUS 1st chance I get. Whoever asks me about a Gigabyte product in the future will end up with somebody else?s product instead and you can take this to the bank.

Thank you Blazer7, you just made my day. Now I don't have to buy Vista for a long time, at least until SP1 and I don't have to go through the headache of having a dual boot system.

Mr Ava1anche,

I've seen this article too some months ago and your answer lies in the 2nd page where it is stated that both companies will continue to develop their products independently and continue to compete against each other for the sake of ?healthy competition?.

Good Evening Everyone.

I believe that not so long ago, that "merger" between ASUS and Gigabyte hit the rocks, and they each decided to go their separate ways. The pundits seem to indicate that the corporate egos and strategies of each giant company couldn't agree on very much, and rather than destroy both companies, they decided to split. Although, "as the story goes," they never really merged, but just took some fancy steps to look that way. I rather think it was some wiz kid's way of inflating stock prices, but he never considered the logistical nightmare such a merger would cause to implement. Hope that sheds some light on the issue.

Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle

Mr Beagle,

I think you are totally right with your assessment of the logistical nightmare and the corporate egos involved. I was wondering about that merger myself, mostly because there was nothing on the web but some articles like that on Tweaktown. It was quite strange that the earth didn't shook with such a merger going on.

PS
It is good to see that you are still with us.
