MSI, EVGA, Asus all updated there BIOS for wolfdale support and some yorkfield or are at least working on Yorkfield support. The bottom line is Gigabyte can do the same but they just don't care about there customers. They got our money so on to the next suckers they can grab.

Hello People!

I've been watching this thread with great interest for several months now.

Back in mid 2007 I found this thread and wanted a 680SLI-DQ6 immediately. I held off however, due to money and the desire to wait until Vista was SP'd before building a new rig. It now looks as if I have well and truly missed the boat!

I still want to get my hands on one though. I'm not a hardcore user so a Quad core is overkill for me.

This is my planned rig thus far...

Thermaltake VA8003BWS Armour Super Tower (for all those lovely drive bays!)
Enermax Galaxy 850W/1000W EGX850EWL ATX2.2 Modular PSU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6850
Zalman CNPS9700 NT CPU Cooler + Zalman ZM-CS1 Clip Support 775 CNPS7000
BL2KIT12864AL1065 2GB kit Ballistix Tracer 240-pin DDR2 PC2-8500 5-5-5-15 2.2V (or more)
GeForce 8800 GTx (maybe 2 in SLI)
WD Raptors - RAID 0 system Partition and RAID 5 for data storage

Any comments/opinions?

Thank God there are people out there like Gary and Mr Beagle and many others who are all too happy to help us lesser mortals (and I'm lesser than most!). Thanks to you all for illuminating my otherwise pitch black path!

TIA

Would anyone be interested in a trade up program from the Gigabyte 680i to the 780i or 790i? I am trying to convince Gigabyte that this would be a very wise thing to do right now.

I am new to this forum and have been dealing with gigabyte on this motherboard for months. I have not been able to get a stable setting ever since i tried adding my 3rd and 4th stix of ballistix if anyone has any suggestions for me or has a similar rig any advice would be greatly appreciated as dealing with tech support has gotten me nowhere. I am aware that my memory requires 2.4v to work on this board but i keep getting the BSOD at boot up after adding the stix. i have tried soo many configurations that it is mind numbing.

That would be truly awesome Gary. Thanks for going to bat for us.

What do you think the odds are? Are they even considering it?

How far along is Gigabyte with their 780i development? Is it going to be like the 680i...April/May '08?

Thanks,

Thankyou very much Gary I appreciate the offer. I have however just spoken to a Gigabyte Rep from Gigabyte Australia as my complaint case was forwarded to him by the Taiwan office (I guess they got sick of me...LOL) Anyway he has agreed that Gigabyte admit that the board was "misrepresented" in the advertising and he has agreed to fully replace my board at NO COST. Unfortunately the new 780i boards do not hit Australian shores until February but he has promised me that as soon as stock arrives he will call me and will ship one to me immediately. The arrangement is that once I replace the board I then send the 680i back, so no down time yippee!!!

So guys it can be done. It's a shame Gigabyte have not taken the proactive step of offering a replacement program straight up and I had to complain my a$$ off before they would do anything but since they have now admitted false representation I cannot fault them in their efforts to gain customer satisfaction. Seriously once I spoke with this guy on the phone, there were no more questions asked, no denials or anything, it was just.... yep, no problem, we will replace the product at no extra charge. I can't complain about that. So guys just get on to them - preferably verbally on the phone. Quote my case if it helps but if they have admitted misrepresntation to me and are willing to replace the board, then they have to do it for everyone else. Good luck with it guys.

Fricken wow...congrats GrimRaper. There is hope then. With all your effort/worry/heartache, etc, you paid a steep price for this Board (and it's replacement), we all did. I hope it go's your way for the rest of us.

A special thanks to Gary who has been there for us from the beginning.

I am speaking to them tonight (Taiwan) about it. To be honest, I did pound on the US office during CES to the point that they were probably tired of hearing me bitch about it for 20 straight minutes.

It is something that needs to be worked out between Gigabyte and NVIDIA in my opinion. Whatever happened between A0 and C0 silicon is up for debate between all parties concerned, however, somebody needs to step up to the plate and take care of the user. I am trying to facilitate that process right now.

Well im now in the same boat as GriMRapeR, I just got off the phone with the rep for Gigabyte Australia and they are going to exchange my board for a 780i board. So theres hope for all GA-N680SLI-DQ6 owners.

Hey GriMRapeR, did the Gigabyte Rep from Gigabyte Australia tell you what board they will be sending you ? I know it will be a 780i board but will it be a base board or will it be a DQ6 board eg: GA-780SLi-DQ6 ?

Cheers.

I am waiting to hear back on that as I forgot to ask him on the phone but I sent him an email asking that very question only a few hours ago.

So far I haven?t seen or heard of a 780-DQ6 ver so I guess that the replacement will be the GA-780SLI-DS5. That looks like a good board and I think that this would be a suitable and fair replacement for our expensive DQ6.

I really hope that GB will launch a trade-in program for our board but I?m not so sure they are going to. Their reluctance to act on their own is what?s worrying me the most. That?s not what I?ve expected from them when I decided to become their customer. Anyway, a trade-in program will be a welcome change to GB?s stance towards us so let?s all hope that they?ll go ahead with one.

Regardless of the outcome I think that we all have to thank Gary for all his efforts and support. We are fortunate that we have him on our side.

Thanks Gary.

I would trade up for a 780I-DQ6 for sure, provided its the DQ6 version just like i bought in the first place and provided I don't have to be without a pc for 6 weeks on end. Thanks Gary for all your efforts, hopefully Gigabyte will step up to the plate. I was in the process of ordering the EVGA 780I board, but will put that on hold untill we see if Gigabyte corrects the issue, as they should.

Well, I've bitten the bullet and bought the board as it will likely become unavailable soon.

You might think I'm mad. Then again, I've never been accused of being normal!

The E6850 is a screamer but the E8400 is already out there and it?s way cheaper. Still the E6850 is a good processor. The Zalman 9700 is quite popular here and the Galaxy is a great PSU for sure but the GA-N680SLI-DQ6 ? Are you serious !?!? Why on earth did you bought a board that?s EOL and does not support penryn ???!?!?!? You could at least ask some of the guys here if they were willing to sell you their boards at a discount. You would be getting the board half the price (if not for free :laugh and help some other guy in the process.

We were not fully aware of what we were getting into when we got our boards but you ?!?!? Good luck you are gonna need it. Lots of it. lol

PS.
Mad, most likely. Normal, no way. In other words, you really fit in this thread along with the rest of us.

Welcome to our thread.

E8400 eh? I'll have a look

I've wanted the GA-N80SLI-DQ6 since I first read about it. It does exactly what I want. I'm not looking to upgrade to Penryn, just a good performer to last me a year or 2.

The board I got was clearance stock and besides, if GB get their act together with the upgrade/return for mis-selling I wouldn't want to deprive anyone

Another plus is that I already have a wealth of info on the N680SLI to refer to thanks to everyone here

Thanks for the welcome

Si

PS Wibble Wibble. Has anyone seen my camel?

The E8400 is a bit faster than the E6850 and it's much cheaper but it's not an option for any of us. The E8x00 cpus are 45nm penryn core 2 Duos and our mobo does not support them, at least not officially. I do not know if GB will ever release another BIOS to add at least wolfdale support for our board but somehow I doubt it.

BTW I think I saw your camel. It was running away from your board.

Well seeing as I cannot get a respectable OC out this board with the parts I had purchased for it (Unlees someone here could reply to my prior post). If I cannot get this going better, I will be looking to sell my rev.1 board. Anyone interested please let me know. 8 months of playing around with this thing and a $1000.00 processor collecting dust is driving me nuts. No respectable offer will be refused.

Advice is Welcome, original post was asking for advice and seems as though all here are consumed with trying to get theres MB's replaced.
I dont have a valid gripe to get mine replaced as I have no plans on upgrading my CPU seeing as I have barely been able to get any use out of the one I have already purchased.

My current OC is 3150.0Mhz, x10 Multiplier, Bus speed 315.0, Rated FSB 1260.0Mhz, Core Voltage 1.39375v, ddr2 +5.00v, all others are set to Normal.

SLI set to Expert, FSB Unlinked, FSB Ratio- Auto, CPU Frq [315], Memory frq [980], Timing set to Expert, tCL [4], tRCD [4], tRP [4], tRAS [12], CMD [2T], Advanced Mem settings (Auto)- tRRD [Auto(4)], tRC [Auto(30)], tWR [Auto(6)], tWTR [Auto(9)], tREF [Auto] 7.8uS . In CPU-Z my DRAM Frequency is 490.0mhz and FSB: DRAM is 9:14.

Seems to me that reviews I have read were able to push my exact components much further than I seem to be able to I do have all 4 1gig stix going now, however if i try to push any further i become unstable.

Anybody ? ? Please ? ? HELP!

These are the Q's/Responses I got from Gigabyte corporate...

Sent : 1/27/2008 02:06
Question : Will the Wolfdale CPUs be supported? I want to install the Intel E8500 or E8400. Will the F5 BIOS support these CPUs?

Answer : It is not supported on this motherboard

Sent : 1/24/2008 12:14
Question : That's too bad...:-(. Does Gigabyte plan on releasing an "unofficial" BIOS to support the 45nm Quad-Core processors like ASUS did?

Answer : It is not available and there are no plans on one for that processor.

Pretty much what we all know/thought. Just stings a little to hear it so bluntly.

Mr DoW,

Our board has a rep of not being able to scale well with the quads. The F5 did not solve this problem but there are some things that you can try. It is always a good idea to run your mem @stock with relax timings and see how far you can go with your cpu. After reaching the highest oc possible then you can start fine tuning your mem.

You should also disable the following in your BIOS :

Advanced BIOS features -> CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E), CPU Thermal Monitor 2 (TM2), CPU EIST function.

MB Intelligent Tweaker (M.I.T.) -> Spread Spectrum Control -> Set all options to disable.

I hope this helps. Keep us posted on how you're doing.

@eklock2000,

It seems that the folks in Taiwan are done with this mobo for good. They'll probably want to forget it ever existed. All that's left is to get rid of that pesky bunch of ex-customers. I think that they can just do that with a trade-in program.

Drums of war, I am no help[ with your proc but have you tried to loosen your timings to say 5-5-5-15 at 400 then try to overclock your proc to what speed you want. Also when you get bsod do you get any beeps? I believe that will tell you alot on why you are getting a bsod. i was recieving long beeps which ment ram. but I am a noob at it there are alot of peple that could give you alot better advice then me. You might want to try to contact mr. Beagle ot Mr Blazer7 they always seem to have a wealth of knowledge. Hpoe that helps.. good luck.

Opps blazer posted why I was typing... good luck.
