TheBeagle has posted a fix for the DMI issue back on page 55. I know that you?ve seen his post back then but have you tried it ?

Just took a quick look in the BIOS, I found everything Beagle said he did except I can not find the flash rom protection setting. Can anyone point me in the right direction to that setting? Have to leave for a bit, but will try this when I get back home.

No mate but I wouldn't be expecting to hear from him for another week or two as the 780i's have not come out yet and I don't think any 790i specs have been released either. If I haven't heard from him within two weeks I will be making contact with him again. Either way I will post here as asson as something develops.

Is anybody having trouble with their purple Gigabyte SATA controllers? I put a new 1TB drive on it and if I copy anything to that 1TB drive, it ends up corrupted (ie. MD5 sums do not match)

Once I have time, I'll do some more extensive testing to see if it's the drive's fault or the controller's fault, but any headsup with be great, thanks.

@ EateryOfPiza,

Are you using the latest driver for the GB controllers ?
Are you using all 6 nVidia SATA ports ?

------------------------------------------------

Did anyone else notice the ?Replacement Model? note on the board's page on GB's US site ?
This note is not present on GB's main site (Taiwan). Does anyone know what this means ?

GA-N680SLI-DQ6 (US site) (Taiwan site)

Replacement Model : GA-N650SLI-DS4L (rev. 1.0)

Hi guys,

I was wondering if anyone here could help me with my settings in the BIOS?!

My system is as follows:

Gigabyte GA-N680SLI-DQ6 (rev 1.0)
Intel Q6600
Crucial DDR2 BallistiX PC6400 2048MB CL4 (dual kit)
Seagate SATA hdd

And various other hardware items.

I am not satisfied with the way my rig is running, so I was thinking there might be something in the BIOS that I could optimize.

For instance, it looks like it throttles down to 1600mhz, instead of always running 2400 mhz.

All help is welcome

Best regards,

KSEDK

Turns out my drivers are outdated, I'll update them and get back to you.

I am using all 6 nVidia SATA ports.

Some info for any who care: For latest drivers for the purple SATA ports, which is actually a JMicron JMB363 controller (see here), you can visit ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jmb36x/
Changelog for the drivers is here: ftp://driver.jmicron.com.tw/jm...river_Release_Note.txt

If Gigabyte is dropping support for this board, expect them not to provide driver updates. We'll have to turn to the chip manufacturers for drivers.

Hello Mr KSEDK,

If throttling down is your problem then you can certainly ?fix? it. All you have to do is enter BIOS and Disable the CPU Enhanced Halt (C1E) and the CPU Thermal Monitor 2 (TM2) options. Both can be found in the Advanced BIOS Features menu. I don't think that this will improve the performance of your rig though.

Just for the history. It is a well known fact that our board sucks when it comes to quad core ocing.

@ Smitty,

GB is still in mute mode (their favorite), so not a word yet. I hope that this ?Replacement Model? thing over at their US site is a joke but then again I won't be surprised if it's not. If GB considers the GA-N650SLI-DS4L as a replacemend for the DQ6 then god help us.

Hi Blazer7

Thx for your reply. I will look into that asap

Another "problem" I have is, that I think my RAM is being undervolted. I am pretty sure that the specs say that they should have 2.2V but where ever I look it says that it is getting 1.8V and when I look at the page in the BIOS where you can see the health it says 1.8V FAIL?!

I have now raised the V on the RAM by 0.4, I hope that is not wrong

Just lost one set of RAM 1 week ago. Could that be because it has been undervolted?

I don't experience my board as being faulty but because so many of you have problems with the board I have contacted Gigabyte. Now I have heard back from them that I can send it to their service center in Germany. I just don't want to send it there if they can't find any faults, or if the replacement board is something less than the board I have paid good money for.

What to do, what to do ...

Hello Mr KSEDK,

The +0.4V will give you 2.2V, so your settings are correct.

Whenever you up the voltage above normal the 1.8 fail message will appear so this is normal too.

I've heard that our board may spike during boot and send more current to the mem slots than normal but I don't know if that's true. I've lost a pair of good RAM on this board too but I'm 100% sure that it was not the board's fault.

It is a good measure to use a cooling device for your RAM. This will help keep the temps down and ease your mind. I'm using OCZ's XTC memory cooler and I can recommend it to anyone as it fits nicely on the board, it is not that noisy like Corsair's Dominator cooler and it can handle the heat for sure. At some point I was running my DIMMs @2.4V (G.Skill's limit for my mems) and the cooler had no problem keeping the temp at a reasonable level.

If you're not experiencing problems with your board when running all components within the manufacturer's specs there is no need to send it back to GB. If you do they?ll just test it with all components & settings @stock and they will send it back to you along with the bill.

The best thing right now is to wait and see if GB will launch a trade-up program for us.
