(I have to admit, that's a new one, even for me.) They both indicate some type of hardware error or "Bad Boot Device". What's really strange is that no matter what boot order I select what is shown as the "C" drive is what used to be the "F" drive. If anyone can help (or has a suggestion) this was the state of affairs before the "nTune disaster":

A: 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy
C: 2X160GB RAID0 -NVIDIA SATA 0 & 1
D: IDE DVD RW
E: IDE DVD RW
F: 2X160GB RAID0 - NVIDIA SATA 2 & 3
G 160GB SATA - JMicron channel 0
H: 160GB SATA - JMicron channel 1

What drives I see do not include the original "C" drive. Here's the really weird part. Like I said, I had an option of booting either Windows XP "normally", or booting the recovery console. THAT STILL WORKS, so I would guess that my MBR is still valid somehow. I did create a new SuSe 10.3 Live disk. It refused to finish booting. (No messages, it just died.) I will try it an another machine. I will try a hard BIOS reset.

The Kapt'n

That is really strange, since the MBR is tied directly to the disk the BIOS is using for its boot order. All the BIOS does is go to that particular sector on that particular disk and check to see if it is a valid boot loader, otherwise it moves on to the next boot device in its list.

Can you try using a different Linux Live CD (knoppix is my personal preference) and see if it detects your missing C:\ drive? You may even be able to mount the C:\ and check that you can open/read different files on there. This will at least prove that the disk is either good, bad, or corrupt, and give you an idea of what to do next (i.e. if bad, well, replace disk, if corrupt, re-format....).

Fallen Kell,

I used GPARTED to look at The hard drives. All of the RAID drives file systems were listed as "Unknown", which is not surprising as they are striped and GPARTED was looking at each drive individually. EXCEPT drive 0 from the "C" drive array which appeared as NTFS. I did finally get the Windows recovery to startup (I had to supply the "F6" NVIDIA start up disk). I tried poking around a bit. The other drives and RAID array looked fine. I tried chkdisk /f. There was an unrecoverable error on the "C" array.

I reinstalled windows.

Since I now have nothing to loose. I have been retrying nTune. Here are a few important bits for anyone else fool enough to do this to keep in mind:

1) If you EVER see a black text on gray screen that says something about CMOS corrupted and lists some reboot options. DON'T TAKE ANY OF THEM. Ctrl-Alt-Del is the correct answer

2) nTune is will NOT adjust voltage. So the clock speeds attained there are not the limit. For example my CPU easily runs at 3.2Ghz & 1.4000V w/o even running the fan (nTune 3.15Ghz). My memory is stock 1066Mhz @ 2.2V (nTune 951Mhz).

3) nTune does adjust RAM timings in a rather unique way It set mine to 5-3-3-13 at the above clock rate.

4) Don't be STUPID like me. Invest in some good disk imaging s/w and make regular backups. I should know better.

One last thing. My system seems to be more stable. When I reinstalled all the drivers I skipped the GRAID drivers and the NVIDIA IDE drivers. I also installed ONLY the latest from the Gigabyte website. The system (knock on wood) boots consistently on the first try.

Thanks to all for the help.
I'll post some numbers when I get it dialed in.

Hello Mr cdfire,

If you're thinking of dumping this piece of crap I?d suggest that you go GriMRapeR?s way and ask for a refund. I?m thinking of doing so myself. rt182 has a brand-new ASUS board to play with so I think that it is time for the rest of us to turn on the heat and roast GB?s chestnuts as TheBeagle suggested.

Cdfire,

Sorry to hear that your board is Tango Uniform. Scanning all your old posts it kinda sounds like you may have a bad CMOS. (A silly suggestion, replace the battery?) If you do try to get a refund please post your results. It would be good to know if someone outside Australia can get a refund. (They were probably afraid he would swim over and "kick ass". It is a lot closer you know.)

Good Luck,

I just need to know witch direction to go with this, do I go after the supplier or Giga-crap? As New Egg sold this to me and didn't get more than a 90 Warranty(next time I will for sure!).
I'll contact Gigabyte again, and ask them to make good on this. Will post back soon as this is rediculas............

Assuming you didn't buy an open-box/oem motherboard, you have a 3 year warranty on it. Once mine gets back from Gigabyte from the RMA I will be contacting them myself as I am just about ready to buy a Q9450 (as soon as they are released). I know it won't work in this board, but it will be part of my information when I contact them, since as shown, their box says Extreme Quad Core 1333....

I contacted tech support threw there online support and have not heard back yet but basically I asked them for a fix or a full refund since not only is this problem driving me nuts, but the board does not support what they claimed it does. Will let you all know how this turns out when I here back from them.

USA, I contacted New Egg as they sold the stuff. And they sent me the standard automated reply, but they are pretty good with customer support so we'll see what happens now. Also I'll contact gigabyte.
Sad thing is I would have liked to seen there 790 boards but will not touch them even if I win the lottery now. As this board should have lasted me a while............for $350 dollars.
Thats the phrase I used when asking about a refund was this board does not support the "1333Mhz Quad core's" as stated on the box.
I'll post back when I know more, Thank You all!

Fallen Kell,

I just called the number from the website for Gigabyte when I had an RMA (this was a few years ago).

626-854-9338

I think I was able to get RMA information at that number....

They used to respond pretty quickly to technical requests over the web (ie.Where's my board!?!?!):

http://www.gigabyte.com.tw/Support/ServiceCenter.aspx

(I'm sorry if I'm repeating stuff you already know..)

Actually I didn't know about the number. I also didn't think to send a support request as I figured they were 2 different entities, but you never know. I will start with the support/service center since it is easiest for me at least.

Day 3 starts with service center support and still no reply. I will give them till Friday to reply and then I will be calling. I will be needing to take a deep breath before the call and forcing myself to remain calm for lord knows I am already fighting to keep my gaskets from blowing. Man how I wish the 790I boards supported DDR2 instead of DDR3 for I would just wait for the EVGA 790I board, buy that and use the Gigabyte board as a 300 dollar target for my shot gun. Never again is all I will repeat yet again, never again will I ever buy Gigabyte products.

just keep your composure as they did it to all of us not just you........... Same here no reply from Gig-a-crap. I too will be calling them, as for New egg they offered me a ten dollar coupon(WTF). I told them I will not just go away as they are the ones who sold it and they should be going after giga crap not us. We shall see where this goes as I will make this my obsession till I get a working 350 dollar mainboard or a refund of my money. What ever comes first.

@ Kaptain,
Your not using Intune are you? If you don't mind having a fubar system as it will mess up the hard drives and is a known fact. DUMP INTUNE ASAP if you like using a computer as it is garbage period!!!!!
Just trying to save you time as it will give you nothing short of headaches and ulcers too..

***I need help getting gigabytes attention here!!! Thank you to all who would do so for US not just me!!!!

You should have told the guys at Newegg that you too prefer to hang the damn thing on the wall and use it for target practice instead.

There are no news on any GB 780 or 790 board yet but ASUS, eVGA & XFX have already updated their sites with info on their brand-new 790 boards. nice??

Guys,
Please! This is a chance to have our collective voices heard here(link) if you would be so kind as to post your spec's and issue with this gigabyte motherboard, PLEASE for us not just me!
link to tweaktown
We have there attention, but it takes action by all not just a few to make things happen. I have never disrespected any of you, nor would I. I'm only asking for your HELP here nothing more, I know I want my money's worth nothing more nothing for free either as I have money. But do expect to get what I have paid for also.

Update on my dealings with New Egg they gave me a 25 dollar voucher to go away( just so you know, might be worth it for you guys too?). There claim is I didn't ask within the allotted 30 day window next time I'll pay extra like The Beagle did!!!!!!!!
Thanks even if you Iggy me, I understand that too!

Regards Jagger !!!

Hello Mr. CD.

May I suggest that you consider the GA-X48-DQ6 board - it uses DDR2 memory. It also is a refinement of the GA-X38-DQ6 board (which I have) and which board has matured rather nicely. If Gigabitch will do some sort of tradeup for you, and you want to keep your DDR2 memory sticks, then the X48 board would be worth your consideration.

Best regards to everyone. Keep up the good fight. Happy Easter!! TheBeagle

I would concider that Beagle but it dont look like there going to do much about it here. A Trade for that board would be ok but as I have said I would never purchase a Gigabyte board again. There giving me the run around so far, basically insisting I try everything that I already have again even though I have explained i have done such steps many times over and over again. .
