I just loaded the FBc Bios for the REV. 2 boards and with the same settings as the FA bios everything seems stable. I do notice that with the memory SLI enabled with a 0% overclock the post reads memory running at 1001 rather than 1066 as with bios FA.

I'll be the first to admit I'm sorta a neophyte at this sort of thing, but if you guys with the REV 2 board would like me to test some stuff, just let me know, I would be willing to be the crash test dummy for this beta BIOS.

Ok

I'm now running on the new F6b without any issues so far. My mem is stable @1045 5-4-4-3-2T @1.95V. I can say that this seems to be a lot better than the old F5g or the F5 official. I will work on it and post more in the next 24h.

Hey guys I've been following this thread since about page 50 and i can't believe its still going i haven't contributed any problems that i have had with my n680sli rev.2 board, but i have already sent one back because of faulty memory slots

Anyways I've tried the new bios to see if it would fix DMI pool errors and be a bit more stable with me E6600 overclocking but as far as i could see the bios version didn't change anything nor did it even change the bios version from FA to FBc after doing it through the flash utility through the bios and also through @BIOS. Has anyone found the FBc bios any better so far?

As you all are hoping for a replacement or an upgrade program, so am I. It's great that you guys stuck with it and are still going

To all who are flashing there BIOS with this board either rev. MAKE SURE TO SET DEFAULTS IN BIOS BEFORE AND AFTER FLASHING.
Most of you probably already know this, but for the few who may have missed it. With a feather rich board there are many ways to in effect "pouch the flash". One great thing about this board is the back up bios it has too. Love it for not having to reset the CMOS every time a failed clocking happened.

Anybody with a rev 2 version let me know what your thoughts are on this new one.

Best Regards!

I assume you mean the fail safe defaults? I have not tried the F6b yet but plan to sometime in the next couple days and want to make sure I do this right. I do not have a floppy drive so it will be threw windows that I update to this BIOS.

I'm currently using the exact same settings as I did with the F5b and everything is working fine.
My rig is completely stable with my mem running @1065 5-4-4-3-2T 1-3-2-7-2 @1.95V.
Tomorrow I'll try running my mem @spec 4-4-4-5-2T @2.4V and see if it'll work.
If the board could handle the 1333FSB Extreme Quads as advertised I would have never thought of replacing it.

I've been using GB's facewizard utility with 100% success so far. No problem updating to the F6b.

Ok I could not wait so here?s what I just did.

1. Booted into the BIOS and set it to fail safe defaults.

2. Rebooted and let it go back into windows. I shut down everything, my firewall, Avast and even the NVIDIA icon by the clock.

3. Used Gigabytes @ BIOS selecting all boxes, clear DMI Pool and PNP and installed the F6B BIOS.

4. Rebooted back into the BIOS and selected load fail safe defaults again, saved and rebooted back into windows.

5. Rebooted again back into the BIOS and went threw everything turning off things such as the extra sata controllers (The purple ones for I don?t use them yet), the nic controllers I don?t use, I only use one. I left all the spectrum stuff at defaults although I will turn those off. I set the ram to SLI 0% and set the voltage to auto. I figured let it detect the SLI timings this time instead of setting them my self, hence setting it to SLI 0%.

6. I then saved and rebooted to this loud ass beeping sound of which I shut the pc down at the power supply. This has happened with every BIOS update to date. After updating it seems changing anything gives me this beep, but fail safe defaults is not going to cut it for I dont want the onboard sound and whatever else I am not using. plus i want my ram to run at its spec's and not the defaults. Specs for my ram is 4-4-4-12 at 2.1 volts and thats what I want, no oc just at spec's.

7. Booted back up fine into windows.

Now the big test for me is to see if I get the building DMI Pool shit over the next few days.

Question: Is everyone turning off the spectrum stuff still?

EDIT: I should mention that the beep only happens the first time I change anything. I can change anything after the first time with no beep.

My system is running great with the new F6b bios. I have my QX6700 running at 3.6gHz (300x12) and it is more stable than ever. I can't confirm my QX6860 works yet though. I am too scared to swap it out.

On another note, I got my 3-way SLI working perfect. I can actually pass 3dmark06 now. Turns out my video card's bios were overclocked too much at 660mHz core/1458mHz shader/2000mHz memory. I brought hem all down to 630/1458/2000 and it worked flawlessly. Score is 16466 with 3 8800gtx's and 3.6gHx cpu. A little dissapointiing. My old 2-way SLI righ with XP hit 18,469 with the same CPU speed.

Crysis still lags at ultra high settings at 1920x1200...

Hello Mr justinburton,

As Mr Colin mentioned only the "new" F5g beta BIOS offers some limited support for the QX6850. This is still buggy and by no means a solution to the 1333FSB quad core support issue.

First, I want to clear up some misconceptions about the F5g BIOS I sent to TT to post. As I mentioned to them, it was in no way "the solution". As I told TT, I was working on the RMA issue separately, but I wanted to send out the BIOS for those who had the CPU in question and wanted to at least try it. As I mentioned, the BIOS is still buggy, and is not the end solution.

The F5g BIOS I sent last week was an updated version from the one a few months ago. When moving to the F6 BIOS, we eliminated the workaround for those 3 CPU's I mentioned on TT. The last BIOS to include support was F5g. The version I sent to TT last week was an updated version, as the engineers did some rework on it last week. Since it was the last version before F6, we couldn't obviously rename it to a later name. So, if you do have one of the CPUs in question, if you tested the old F5g and the latest one I posted, there would be some improvements. Again, not a final solution, just wanting to put it out there.

You can find the ?new? F5g here : F5g BETA BIOS for GIGABYTE N680SLI-DQ6

In the article it is stated that if temperatures are higher than usual, there may be stability issues but since
GB reported that no hardware damage was experienced and taking into account that you are using water cooling it may be worth it to give it a shot.

PS
Are all 3 VGAs using the same BIOS ? 3SLI is more effective when running at ultra high resolutions like 2560X1600 with AA & AF enabled.

Yes, please, any kind of update would help. Begin rant...

This whole "give us a couple of days" smells a little funny to me. I, for one, have had an "official request" for an answer into Gigabyte USA for months now. I complied with all their absurd requests and still nothing. Plus, they had to see this coming and should have had plenty of time to figure out how they want to respond. End rant...

Have a great day!

Yes. Now at 630/1458/2000mhz. I'm using a tweaked BFG 8800gtx OC2 bios.

You are correct. But I believe 1920x1200 is up there with 2560X1600. 3-way SLi should perform very well.

Thanks for the tip JW. I found Beagle's post by searching on 'Clear CMOS' funnily enough LOL.

I have a question though on the subject of clearing the CMOS. It might sound a bit daft but the trivial often has a large impact! ...

Having applied the jumper on the CMOS reset pins, do I just leave it there for a while or power up?

TIA

I am using the f6b now and all seems to be ok,so far.

Mr. justinburton:

what bios settings are you using to get that qx6700 to run at 300x12?

thank you,and I truly appreciate the efforts of all here to get GB to do something.......

Good Afternoon Mr. Simes & Everyone.

DO NOT leave that jumper on the CMOS clearance pins while power is being applied to the board. Doing so can cause permanent damage to your board. A simple ten seconds of contact between those pins is more than sufficient. Hope that helps.

Best regards to everyone. TheBeagle

Hello Mr eklock2000,

We've been waiting for so long now that a few more days do not matter. I believe that we should give Gary and Colin a chance. After all Colin is the 1st GB official to come here and speak with us directly and Gary's been there for us from the very beginning. Surely the whole situation is not a pleasant one but a few more days won't kill us, besides we owe Gary at least that.

As Colin explained, the support for these cpus never made it to the F5 official let alone the F6b. The ?new? F5g was the last to have the ?workaround? for the 1333 quads. If you want to try your QX6850 you'll have to use the new F5g.

Agreed. I'm only asking for any kind of update...i.e., "we're getting closer, maybe tomorrow, etc". It would also be nice to know if they're leaning towards a refund, or towards a trade-in program. If the trade-in to 790i is the way they're going, then we'll all have to wait months anyway, and probably buy DDR3, etc. If it's to a X38/48, then we're screwed with our SLI rigs...

I feel that they're just arguing about "what's the least we can get away with", as I would expect any business to do.

At this point, it feel's like my bladder is extra full and there isn't a urinal in sight...

This is precisely why we must give the guys some time. This thing is too complex. My estimate is that a refund is out of the question, of course I may be wrong but I think that it's far more likely that GB will launch some kind of a trade up program in the end. As to what they are gonna offer us, I do not have a clue.

Have you tried other settings like 400x9? or 450x8? Is there still FSB holes? And what voltage are you using to reach 3.6?

Bios settings: cpu: QX6700. CPU core voltage: 1.4375V, mem voltage: +.400V. multiplier: 12, fsb speed: 300, unlinked, auto at 900mHz for the memory. I have pc2-8500 memory which can go to 1066mHz but after many tests I couldn't find a difference with it running at 800 or 900mHz vs 1066mHz. I guess it only helps if you are raising your FSB very high.

Hi Guys,

As JAGGERWILD posted, we have a replacement policy in place. Those of you who tried to RMA US/Canada will be contacted Thursday. If you aren't contacted I suggest using the contact details posted by JAGGERWILD.

Thank you Colin,

Care to give us any details...? Is this a pure return, what's the proposed replacement, is there cross-shipping here, will I be without a mobo for a while, is it a refund, when will the Gigabyte 790i be out - is that part of the RMA offer?

I want to be sure Gigabyte USA understands the conditions as they were pretty unhelpful to me before.

Thank you,
