Good Morning Mr. JaggerMan & Everyone.
Yes, the Q6600 will work just fine in that board. However, Intel just cut the prices on several procs in half a few days ago. The pricing on a Q6700 is now just a few bucks more than a Q6600. Of course, the preferred CPU would be a 45nm Penryn. The Q9450 is available now for about $365.00 USD, and the Q9550 will be available in about a month for somewhere around $585.00 USD. On the other hand, you can get a Q6700 now for about $290.00 USD @ Newegg.com.
The performance difference between the Q6700 and the Q9450 is probably about 3-5%. So you can save a bunch of $ by selecting the Q6700, and putting the saved $ toward those killer video cards! With a good CPU cooler, you should be able to run that Q6700 to at least 3.60GHz+. Considering that's four cores running at that speed, that's not too shabby a setup. Good Luck with whatever you decide to go with.
Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle
