Good Morning Mr. JaggerMan & Everyone.

Yes, the Q6600 will work just fine in that board. However, Intel just cut the prices on several procs in half a few days ago. The pricing on a Q6700 is now just a few bucks more than a Q6600. Of course, the preferred CPU would be a 45nm Penryn. The Q9450 is available now for about $365.00 USD, and the Q9550 will be available in about a month for somewhere around $585.00 USD. On the other hand, you can get a Q6700 now for about $290.00 USD @ Newegg.com.

The performance difference between the Q6700 and the Q9450 is probably about 3-5%. So you can save a bunch of $ by selecting the Q6700, and putting the saved $ toward those killer video cards! With a good CPU cooler, you should be able to run that Q6700 to at least 3.60GHz+. Considering that's four cores running at that speed, that's not too shabby a setup. Good Luck with whatever you decide to go with.

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle

Hello Mr. Beagle! Everyone!

Thanks for the price list, hadn't really looked as I was eying a few GPU's but bills came first so we shall see what I have left after the next pay check. That is a pretty good price on the Q6700, though I've never really taken note of it before other than a guy in the other forum I go to had one. They have an unlocked multi right? I'd need one hell of a cooler for a Quad core........
Well if I get the cards first then maybe the prices will fall some more on the CPU's.

Mr. Blazer thank you also for the info on the two different X2 set ups, very good thinking about by passing the chipset to run either crossfire or SLI.Witch would also make for higher over clocks I'd assume too, As the chips will not heat up as fast without the cards running though them then.

Again Best Regards all!

Good Morning Everyone.

Well, from the postings over on the N680i Thread, it seems that most folks are getting their replacement X48 boards. So I'll presume we'll see a bit of migration to this Thread before too long. Welcome Aboard Everyone!

I'm still struggling to get the Teaming feature to function. Mr. Colin from Gigabyte has been working with me to obtain Vista 64 drivers and updated Teaming Utility software in an attempt to get the Teaming working. This has become a work in progress, and is likely more of a configuration issue than anything else (at least I hope so). Also, there is an absolute dearth of available and meaningful information on the Teaming feature and its implementation and functioning. Gigabyte sort of dropped the ball on this issue, but they seem to be working on getting that oversight corrected. Again, I'll keep you all posted on that as well.

In the meantime, I hope that everyone will be enjoying their new X48 boards. BTW, there is a 7b BIOS (Beta) version now available on the GB web site. There's not much indication as to what improvement, if any, it will provide to the performance of the X48 board. I'll be interested to hear how members are making out with STABLE OC of their X48 boards, especially with 8GB of memory and the new Penryn 45nm procs (Q9450). Also, be aware that Intel very recently slashed the prices on some high performance Quad Core CPUs. The Q6700 (G0 stepping) has been selling on Newegg.com for about $290.00 USD. That's a darn good price on that CPU.

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle

Good after noon Mr. Beagle and everybody!

Just wanted to stop by and update you, my GA-X48-DQ6 got here this morning. Took a few pictures of it. It came with everything that a new one comes with, definitely need a new CPU for this puppy .

We shall see what my bills dictate for one, as can't go for the thousand dollar chips. But will want a new one to keep this board happy (me too ).
Best Regards All :beer::thumbsup:!

Good Morning Everyone.

The Teaming feature on the X38/48 boards has become very interesting. I very recently received additional information concerning configuration options for the Teaming function. It is my intention to test these various Teaming elements and report back to the members. However, if the matter becomes somewhat extensive, and inasmuch as it seems to span both the X38-DQ6 and X48-DQ6 boards, I might start a new Thread on just the Teaming feature and how to properly (hopefully) establish a Teaming link. I'll keep you posted.

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle

I've got my GA-X48-DQ6 up and going now.
Have not had a chance to really play with it yet.
Currently running a original e6600, looking to replace it with a e8400 or perhaps a e9450.

One thing I've noticed is that for the Scythe S-Flex (three pin plug) when plugged into the CPU fan socket (four pin socket) and CPU Smart Fan Control enabled in the BIOS to get the fan to slow down CPU Smart Fan mode had to be set to Voltage.

Got my replacment 48dq6 for my old n680dq6 and sure enough it came already broken. There was a diode or capacitor laying in the box have no ideawere it goes. Called Chuck at Gigabyte and they told me he is at lunch and he would call me back. I will let you all know what happens next.

Just got off phone with chuck. He said sorry and he was sending out another board today. Gave me a new RMA. He was very pleasent to speak with. Will post again when I get the new board.

It will be waiting for me tomorrow afternoon when I get home from work! Just confirmed it via UPS tracking website.

Very excited now to get my computer back together, unfortunately any OC tinkering will have to wait until I get unfinished work done for my customers.

Just received the motherbpard today. I was looking at it and kinda got a bit alarmed that the board has a small sticker over the area where the board is identified as a GA- ( ) board. The sticker says X48-DQ6... i didn't take off the sticker but just kinda alarmed if the board is really a x48 or did someone just put a sticker over it.

U guys have the same sticker there or am I the only one?

Probably the same PCB as the X38-DQ6 since the X48 is a drop in replacement for the X38.

Got my Board today. I am up and running on xp right now. Going to install Vista64 Ultimate next. I am using the 1.91 audio drivers Blazer7 talked about with no ill effects yet. The Board came with Bios f6. Anyone have a e6600 they are overclocking on this board yet if so what are some of your settings. I need a good rough point to start at. Thanks all.

Install went flawlessly, yay!
Up and running XP32 here... No real time to OC it yet, but running an E8400 / Xigmatek HDT-S1283 / 2x 1Gb Corsair Dominator 8500C5DF and so far it's humming merrily along.

More to come later after I get some work done.

/cheers

Good Morning all!

Mr Curr great news glade you got it back on time , post some numbers soon!
I haven't had any time to work on mine. Expect to mod the case for it a little. Also got a water pump , rad, and north bridge block. Still got a lot to get :frown:. So I'm a ways out from setting it up. Still need CPU, PSU, GPU/S.

I see the 4870X2 will be out around the time Nvidia releases there 9900 series too (July) is the rumor.
Regards all

Good Sunday Morning To Everyone.

To Mr. Blazer: I am running R1.91 as I write this post. It installed just fine and doesn't (yet?) seem to present any problems. The onboard audio is pumping out respectable levels and there's no apparent distortion. So, it seems to be working just fine.

The TEAMING project is still a work in progress, but I'm slugging through it. A fresh install of Vista 64 is on the horizon (how far is uncertain), and that may rectify some Teaming issues. I'll keep you posted. I would be interested to hear from any who has been using the F7b BIOS and a Q9450 proc, as to their best STABLE OC on air. I think the X48 board is quite capable of hitting 4.0+GHz, but not necessarily with a low (8x) multiplier like the Q9450 provides. We shall see on that. But 3.60GHz on air with a Q9450 is not too bad either!

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle

Hello Mr Beagle,

It's very nice of you to test the R1.91. So far we know that the driver is working fine with both the 680 & the X48 under XP and you are the first one to test it on the X48 under Vista64.

I have a hunch that GB follows Realtek's guidelines to the letter when it comes to implementing their audio codecs to their boards, this, or their implementation of the codecs is done in a pretty much standard way. I also think that GB follows the same ?audio design? in many of their boards too. If this is indeed the case then these are very good news for all of us GB owners.

GB like all companies will eventually drop support for a discontinued board after some time. This is what happened, or will happen soon with the 680, and this is what will eventually happen with the X48, although much later. That said, it will be good to know whether we can count on Realtek for driver updates even if this is just for audio.

If anyone else is using the aforementioned drivers please post your results.

First up, a special thanks to Gary and Mr. Colin/Chuck/Leo @ Gigabyte for getting this issue resolved for us. The turnaround was as quick as it could be, I think. Also, as many have said before, a thousand thank you's to all the forum posters for sticking to their guns and fighting this one out. Finished the build up this weekend. I'm still not back to where I need to be though...

I'm having some power-down issues, specifically, re-start issues. If I choose to do a restart instead of a shut down, the computer shuts down, but will not POST upon it's attempt to restart. Just hangs with a black screen, computer's on and a little HDD activity, but no POST. Only a hard reset will do the trick. Any insight into special BIOS settings that might affect this?

Thank you,

EK2K

Hey Eklock...

What bios are you using. I'm using the F7f I posted earlier, and haven't seen any issues like that at all.

As far as OC'ing. I didn't have a lot of time, but I upped Vcore to 1.25, and set my FSB to 400 for my E8400, set my RAM to run 2.2V 1066MHz @ 5-5-5-15. Fired right up without a hitch, and been running decent temps all weekend.

Will probably slowly creep up FSB over the next couple weeks and see where I can go on 1.25Vcore.

Rock solid and stable so far, not one issue (knock on wood) so far.

Current BIOS is F6, Curr, where did you get F7f? I only see F7b on Gigabyte. I'll give it a go.

Your overclocking progress is promising, keep it up.

Thanks,

I saw this too, and did peel it back!

Underneath it did indeed say EX38-DQ6, no fear though, as bigsnyder said, the X48 NB is a drop in replacement for the X38 NB.

Lucky X38 owners that got a X48 quality mobo, or poor X48 owners that "only" got a X38 quality mobo? The "markup" for the X48 chips seems to cost the end user only $10, so I guess time will tell.
