Good Afternoon Everyone.

I recently Googled the X48 BIOS to see what came up. Indeed there were several hits. However, one of those hits indicated that there was a F7f BETA BIOS available. But when I went to download it for further consideration, the file name indicated that it was a BIOS revision intended for a P35 chipset!

Therefore, I urge CAUTION with using this supposed X48 Beta BIOS (F7f) that's out in the wild. It may work, but chances are that it won't work properly, if at all. The real danger may be that it won't uninstall properly or allow itself to be overwritten by a truly legitimate future X48 BIOS revision, and then the user will be SOL - Big Time!

This is a classic example of the old adage about if something seems too good to be true - it usually IS!

Maybe Gary or Colin can check this out for us - we sure don't need a bunch of ruined boards on account of a bogus Beta BIOS - especially after all some folks went through to get a replacement board for the failed N680i boards.

Hello Gary & Colin - Are you listening????

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice day. TheBeagle

When my computer boots up it says

X48-DQ6 Rev F7f

So I would say it's safe to say that it's for X48

Great! I still haven't fired up my x48 mb yet. I just bought an asus P5E-VM HDMI mATX for a HTPC so my cpu's cooking in there instead. I'll probably test the x48 when I bring out the matx to install the i/o plate. Thanks for the heads up and hopefully the Q9450 will come down in price a little so I can have a permanent cpu in the X48 soon.

Hello all!
Little up date on my board, I ordered a Saphfire 3870X2 and chip set WB yesterday also. They should be here in a couple days then I can't start to build then, I'll need a new PSU when I get another 3870X2 unless the 4870X2 come out by then.
Regards all

Good Evening Mr. Colin.

Can you please provide a link for the F7f BIOS? The only listing that I can find on the Gigabyte web site is the F7b BIOS. Thanks.

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice evening. TheBeagle

So I put my system back together with this new board. I will probably have to do a re-install of the OS, but things "work", though, not very fast (but no crashes). I have some data I have to backup which is why I didn't want to do a wipe. I will also be checking on the DPC latency issue. I did notice dropped frames in my live feeds a lot sooner than I thought I would (It does video recording/encoding/re-encoding work on live video stream captures and playback, using AviSynth, FFDShow, and SageTV). But as I said, I didn't re-install the OS, so I suspect a big part of the issue is with that. The BIOS that I received was F6.

I purchased this board today with a q9450 and 2x2gb Patriot DDR2 1066 (pc6500) memory.

Unfortunatly - I don't know whether the board is bad or the memory.

Once everything is in - board powers up nice but it won't post. It just goes into a restart cycle almost immediately. I'm not even getting signal to the monitor.

One of the 1st things you should do is to clear the CMOS. You can do that by removing the battery and shorting the clear CMOS jumper with a jumper cap or anything else that will make contact. Of course you should do that after powering down your rig. If you try clearing the CMOS while the machine is still on there is a possibility that you will damage your board.

You should also try booting with 1 stick only. If you are unable to boot with 1 stick then try changing DIMM slots and sticks. If this fails too then there?s a good chance that the problem is not your RAM.

Another thing you should check is the power cables. Especially the cpu aux cable (4pin). It will also help to know if you are getting any beeps.

Since this is a new build there are many things that could be the cause of this. I suggest that you perform all your tests with a minimum setup. That is cpu+vga+1 DIMM only. No drives or extra cards or 2nd VGAs or anything else.

Do you have a 2nd psu/cpu or DIMM that will work on this board?

Unfortunately, I don't have a second PSU/CPU.

That being said: I tore the "new" mobo/cpu/ram out (left them all still attached) of my case - put my old mobo/cpu/ram back in - booted up without a problem.

Old Rig info:
I am using an 18month old
700w PSU by FSP (link to newegg).
with an AMD4800+ on an ASUS board with 2gb of pc3200 corsair ram
Again - I put the old stuff back in - this fired up perfectly.

This leads me to believe that it's not a PSU issue.

I will try re-setting the cmos and using single stick - differant slots and can purchase 2x1gb of basic (returnable) ram from the local frys without a problem.

One other thing - wasn't sure it was relevant but what the heck.

On the X48-DQ6 - there are LED lights that light up when the board powers on and the CPU is under load. Those fire up right away when I turn the power on. Then of course - they turn off when it powers off (doesn't indicate power to the board - just power or load to the cpu).

Good Morning all!
Mr. Kirel,
That PSU has 4 12 volt rails, while not the best....... If you have access to another one try it.
Also go to the ram manufactures site and see what the rated setting for voltage and timing is, try them. If you have the board out of the case all the better try powering it up out to make sure it's not a grounding problem also. You'll have to jumper the power supply to start it.
PSU jump starting

See if this helps you.

Thanks all.

I purchased 4x1gb sticks of ballistix 1066 (from frys) - That worked just great. System is up and running - OC'd from 2.66 to 3.0 (no issues so far).

About the PSU - If my budget for a new PSU was in the $250 range, what would you suggest?

What are your requirements for a PSU? Are you gonna go multi-GPU? Personally I'm happy with my Galaxy 850W. I have no problem with my rig and if you check my sig you'll see that I have quite a heavy setup (SLI, 10+ drives etc). The price for it is 249.99$ at newegg.

Good Evening Mr. Kirel & Everyone,

You ought to plan for the future with a PSU replacement. Therefore, I would seriously suggest a Thermaltake ToughPower 850 (minimum). I recommend either the Model #W0178RU (newer version) or the Model #W0131 (original version). Both of these PSU units have the advanced modular cabling feature, and that's the PSU that I use. In fact, the average discounted USA price for these PSUs is about your budget, namely, $250.00.

Enjoy your new rig, and fasten your seat belt when you fly that thing!

Best regards to everyone. Have a nice evening. TheBeagle

So anyone care to help me troubleshoot this thing? I think me "new" X48 is dead. Installed the OS and have been running smooth for almost a week before tonight...no POST. I got into the BIOS a couple of times, then after 10-20 seconds of checking things, it freezes up. Now nothing at all but the fans spinning up. I am fairly confident that all the components are good as they worked in the 680i about 6 days ago? I can't believe how painful this whole thing has been...I need a new hobby.

Anyone try whittling? That's like with a sharp knife and a hunk of wood right? It might be more rewarding than this debacle?

Peace,

EK2K

Good Morning All!
Mr. Blazer, I have the same unit. Money well spent too! I'm about to purchase my second one..........
Though there PSU may not be the best they have some great customer services, I thought my older Noisetaker 600 was dieing. Sent them an e-mail they warrantied it even though I had opened the unit up to clean it out and had broken the seal sticker on it. They also stepped me up to a Noisetaker II.

Last night, I took the board back out, reset the heat sink and for the first time - put the computer vertical (it's been laying on it's side while I've been building it).

Immediately, a diaode of some kind - fell off or got unstuck.

For the life of me, I can't figure out where it goes - that being said, the thing looks like it was never soldered on. The connectors look factory fresh.

The board seems to work fine (stable OC at 2.8 on a Q9450 for 10 hours now)...

Should I be worried?

ummm....well, if something fell off that means that something won't work right. I would suspect it is part of a piece you are not really using at the moment. Might be on the sound portion, or part of the 2 port SATA RAID setup that you might not be using, or any of a ton of other features that you are not currently using. I would mention this to Gigabyte. I believe someone else had something that was off during shipping and when he opened the box saw that the part was rolling around. It may be a batch of boards didn't get properly soldered, and this is a known issue which Gigabyte will correct with a replacement board...

Good evening all!
I have my video card in a Sapphire HD3870X2, waiting on ordering my PSU for a few days. I've started to mod the case for the rad, also mounted the pump. Slowly trying to get this thing off the ground.
I'll post it up soon, just wanted to say hello to all!
Regards

Good Morning all!
I just wanted to post and see what you guys could suggest for the south bridge cooler, as I'm removing the heat pipe assembly to water cool the north bridge and CPU.
I don't want to mod the heat pipe, in case of warranty issues. And had not removed the mother board before getting my water blocks, now I realize I have to have a good cooler for it.
Going shopping now.........
Regards all

Well, here I am, online with my new X48 with Vista 64 installed...seems to work VERY well. I didn't mess with the heat pipe like I did with the 680i, and just installed my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro and get as good or better than the Ultima90i I had installed before.

WOO HOO!

I'M having a wierd network problem with my board for some reason. I used it for about 3 days without a hitch and installed vista ultimate 32bit with SP1. Just came back from a trip which I haven't used the computer for about 1 week. Now the lan connection does not recognizes anything (get error code 1231) when I try to ping. And I know it's not the router because my gf's using her computer with no problem on the same router. I put a cat5 on both lan port on my comp and both does not recognize my router. I even pulled it off the router and placed the direct connection to the cable modem and it still does not work. I even reinstalled the lan driver and still no luck. I hope it's not a board issue and maybe it's just something dumb that I need to do to it. I'm probably gonna have to try a fresh install and hope for the best. This sucks because I just got everything back in it's place. The strange thing is the lan LED lights up both on the router and the back of the mb so I know the lan is working but why is it having such difficulty recognizing that the network is there.

Anyone with similar problems?
