I love the people who claim that "if you don't believe global warming you are in idiot"

There may be people saying that, but most people are saying you are an idiot because you don't even understand what global warming would be like if it were true. It's equivalent to injecting yourself with HIV and then 10 seconds later saying, "where are all the AIDS nutbags now? I'm not dead."
don't really like your comparison as AIDS really isn't a death sentence anymore.

Oh MY.

You get the idea, right?

Good point. But it's the best I could come up with on short notice.

actually it isn't "local" at all it is the entire mid and north east coast!
Stop thinking in terms of your own size.
Relative to the planet, it's localized.

You're trolling. You HAVE to be trolling.
Nobody is this retarded.

Merely posting a thread here about global warming is trolling, so I'm just playing along.

BTW, have you hugged a tree today?

The current debate is on what causes global warming.

Well yeah, the last ice age ended just over 10k years ago (a blink of the eye in geological time). So of course the trend is warming. The real debate IMO should be WTF is up with all the chicken little alarmists and their agendas?

Unless I'm misreading this:

Graph

We are merely in the upturn of a predictable, cyclic increase in temp, not even near that of the one 130K years ago (so far, at least.)

But yes, the amount of CO2 is vastly, vastly increased, but that chart certainly isn't showing that the predictable effect that the huge increase in CO2 corresponds to an immediate increase in temp. If anything, that chart appear to show that we're about to drop in temp, as predicted by the earlier patterns.

Now granted, the scale at the upper end is too tight to make out and we simply don't have enough data to extrapolate the near-term results.

Hell, looking at that chart, it almost looks like an increase in temp leads to an increase in CO2, not the other way around.

That's because you're looking for a simple cause and effect mechanism. The truth seems to be that the two are interconnected (along with a lot more factors) in a very complicated way. Increasing one causes an increase in the other, and vice versa. If the earth were to get warmer, say, due to the sun being hotter, then the amount of CO2 in the air would increase due to natural processes (we're seeing this happen right now in the tundras - as they melt, they release carbon dioxide.) Or, if something happens that increases the available carbon dioxide, then the planet would warm up.

All of the inter-relationships are incredibly complex... an increase in temperature results in an increase in water vapor -> increase in clouds -> decrease in solar radiation -> cooling, etc. (And, even this example is over-simplified) Things that are known with better than 99% certainty: the planet is warming up right now. The level of carbon dioxide is much higher than it's been in a long long long time - the reason for this is mankind. The degree to which those two facts are related is a matter of debate. There's no doubt that the increase in carbon dioxide levels are responsible for at least *some* of the global warming. 10%? 20%? 50%? 70%? 90%? A majority seem to lean in the direction that it's a significant amount; but there are a few who doubt this. (majority and "a few" being among the experts in climatology, not public opinion which is absolutely meaningless in the argument.)

I'm still undecided on anthropogenic global warming. The thoughts in my head are as follows:

1) Why is the discussion not centered around the EXTENT TO WHICH humans cause global climate change? Surely the answer is not as simple as, "humans are 100% responsible" or "humans are not responsible."

2) Where is the discussion about whether or not a few degrees higher temperature is actually overall A Bad Thing(TM)?

3) Even if we have shown beyond a doubt that humans are at least partially responsible, which apparently a lot of people believe, have we really "shown" that we can now regulate the climate based on our emissions? Higher emissions = hotter, lower emissions = cooler? If we could really do this, wouldn't we be in some wonderful Star Trek "control the climate" bizarro world? No one has ever attempted this before.

4) Again, I am personally undecided and listening to the facts... but I do find it amusing that this so-called scientific debate has boiled down to "nutbags" and "you're an idiot" within the first two posts on either "side"

EDIT: Also, 5) Regardless of the "real" truth, no one can deny that there is a LEFTIST POLITICAL MOVEMENT associated with global warming. They have attached their agenda to it. Therefore, whether anthropogenic global warming is real or not, we must be weary of it due to the agenda that has been attached.

If anthropogenic global warming is real, then those who are trying to "save" us may have doomed us by attaching their backward agenda to it.

There's also a rightist political agenda to discredit science and academia which is equally dangerous if not more so. The promotion of ignorance and the idolization of the ignorant will cause problems for this country long before climate change.
