Where are the old articles?

Why the hell do the links to the older comparison articles redirect to the new ones?

For example, The "Best $500 Laptops: Holiday 2014" link (http://www.anandtech.com/show/8753/best-500-laptops-holiday-2014) redirects to the 2016 article.

Yes, I know that there are later and better models available, but what if I want to save money buy buying a used or off-lease computer?

This is completely asinine!

Of course I have.

The search gives you the link.
The link redirects to the new version.

The second link gives me items from 2014. Go figure.

I think you are missing his point. Yes, your second link gives you a list of articles from 2014, however, if you click on any of those top three results specifically referring to laptops, they redirect to a 2016 article. This makes it rather difficult to look at the older articles.

Like I said, that is not in this Forum.

I passed the issue up the chain of command, and this is the answer from AT management: "I don't have all the specifics on AT's editorial guidelines, but if they are following what are now "standard" practices in digital publishing, there are no "old" ones to access. When an updated article is published, references to old ones are removed or are updated to redirect to the latest one. This is done with SEO in mind, since proportionately, people are not interested in the best holiday deals from 2 years ago, nor would they be very useful since the prices are no longer the same." Good or bad, that should answer your question.

Oh, so it's that ebil SEO crap. CNet and ZDnet still keep up their old articles and reviews of older hardware, why doesn't AT. Seems stupid to me...

Or at least remove the titles for the old articles. It does seem a little on the deceptive side to be showing a title for an article that doesn't even exist.

Ah, I see. Pandering to the lowest common denominator.
Oh well, good thing the wayback machine cached those articles.

P.S.,
Thank you for checking it, corkyg.
My disappointment is with "management", not with you.

Apologies for not seeing this sooner, but please allow me to offer a bit more clarification. (the initial response came from the community team, who isn't involved in site operations)

Reviews have not and never will go anywhere, period.

However buyer's guides are another matter. Since the content in them has a very short half-life, old articles are redirected to the current guide for SEO reasons, as outlined in the response above. This is something our publisher, Purch, has instituted across all of their sites.
