It's really annoying when almost all the tech sites ignore AMD. Richland is arguably the biggest news of the week and none of the websites have bothered doing reviews. The only review I've seen is on a chinese website where he retrofits a richland cpu onto a trinity msi laptop. I mean since when has a new usb stick or SSD become more important than a cpu release. It seems that along with the OEMs intel has the tech sites and everyone else in their pockets these days.
I was going to rant more about intel fanboyism and how intel cpu performance isn't that much better and that intel cpus are almost always poor value for money. but that is left for another post.

Because AMD didn't bother sending reviewer Notebooks to reviewers. You have to blame AMD.

Is this supposed to be read with the assumption you were being sarcastic?

Or is this supposed to be read with the assumption that you actually believe in the conspiracy-driven paranoia it exudes?

I can't quite tell which :hmm:

Wasn't Richland NDA supposed to expire on 18 March, though? I seem to have got that impression as did some others, though I cannot find the article where I first read about it. Where are the articles and benchmarks. Absolute silence on all tech sites. It's weird.

Only explanation can be:
  • NDA has not yet expired. 18th March was disinformation.

  • There are some last minute problems with Richland, and AMD asked sites to not publish anything until further notice.

Richland desktop chips aren't coming until June.

So what? Even if they are notebook / mobile products you would imagine AMD would like to showcase their new product and create some hype. Look at the people involved in the ARM server business: most of these clowns do not even have anything resembling a proper server, and yet they are never short of press releases and bold proclamations as to how they have killed Intel / x86-64.

  • It was a paper-launch, no one has the hardware to do any sort of review on in the first place.

I added a plausible option to your list.

PC Magazine says:

"Let's be clear: Richland uses the same die on the same 32nm process as Trinity, so it is physically the same chip."

I can see how sites wouldn't bother to review that and AMD wouldn't bother sending samples.

Sure, but in that case you would expect the sites to at least acknowledge there has been a paper launch of a (new / old) product. Right now there is nothing. You search for "Richland" on most tech sites, no new article in the past week (or ever).

EDIT:

This is the latest on AMD's own website. No updates since 12th March. Guess the notebooks sent to reviewers are still in transit.

Given the volume of worthless mundane PR regurgitation that goes on across so many "tech" sites, I can't imagine they elected to make no mention of it if there was anything at all worth mentioning.

Could be the Mar 18th number was BS.

edit: I sent Sarah an email asking her about it, will post her response if I get one.

http://www.coolaler.com/showthread.php/301778-全世界首發-MSI-GX60改上AMD-A10-5750M

Just a few benches from the Chinese site I referenced earlier. I'm left wondering however, if this guy can get his hands on one, why can't anyone else?

Its a conspiracy, Intel sent out ninjas to assassinate anyone who got a fedex package from AMD.

...or some of those engineering samples sent to board makers for system-level validation are still floating around in Asia.

:hmm: hmmm, which seems more plausible...

It's really not so surprising. There was a quote somewhere a couple weeks ago from Anand's twitterverse where he jokingly suggested he might have to get around to writing an article on Jaguar. That information has been out since Hotchips so don't expect the usual tech press that pander to intel to give much press time to AMD.

not just richland, but A88x, A78, A68 chipsets are apparently coming ...

Maybe this logo news was the "news". Plus talk of AMD branded SSDs ...

"AMD plans to launch a trio of new FCH chipsets. Leading the pack is the A88X (eight SATA 6 Gb/s ports), followed by A78 (six SATA 6 Gb/s ports), and A68 (probably four SATA 6 Gb/s ports, entry-level)."

Yeah, they are at some point releasing something (I too thought march 19th was a news day). I guess there just isn't too much excitement over this minor refresh.
I for one am not too excited.

The only thing that could truly excite me about the APUs and FMx would be a product with more than 2 modules (4 threads).

My guess is AMD is saving it's PR time and money for Kabini and Kaveri. I mean other than having a different code name, Richland is equivalent to new trinity model numbers being introduced. Even Intel can't get tech sites enthused about a few new mobile SKUs unless they do something like come up with a new labeling scheme so that they can put 7W on the marketing line instead of 15W.

Considering both A55 and A75 were engineered for Llano, I think it's reasonable to assume that their replacements, a year and a half onward, will feature some degree of enhancements.

And where are A68 boards available? Because I have never seen one.

Thank goodness you're here to be the voice of the oppressed and the anti-AMD conspiracy theorists. But, then again, what did you rail against when the usual tech press outlets were pandering to AMD and slamming Intel for the pos P4 cpus?

But, then again, what does P4 have to do with Jaguar or Richland? Try to keep up.

Intel does paper launches too, and/or the OEMs screw them over. Look at the pentium 2129Y. I bet you never see a single product on the market with this chip in the next 6 months.

From my understanding, Richland went into mass production in March (this month), so it may be some time before we seem some review samples.

Will those bastards at Intel ever rest?

Not only are they putting tech review sites under the boot and keeping them from even mentioning Richland, but they also stooped so low as to have forced AMD to delay putting it into mass production until just this month

That is a new low Intel.

And here I thought Intel was done messing with AMD after forcing Sanders to put Ruiz in as CEO. The cat and mouse game, it...just...won't...end...
