Where are the Snapdragon 6xx devices?

As the title says.
Why are most manufacturers ditching this middle tier? Too expensive?
Xiaomi for example had a few models that were really good mid tier phones, like Note 3 and Max, now they moved to a crappy 625 in all of them. Upsale?

Are there any good new Android phones, up to 400$, with at least Snapdragon 650/660?

OP has hiked in price, so it's not as attractive as it was, and I do not see any good alternatives.

It seems as though the Snapdragon 660 got off to a slow start in production quantities. So far released, we have the Oppo R11 and R11 Plus. I expect Xiaomi will come up with something (several things) in the near future. Also Huawei, Asus, ZTE, Meizu etc.

The 625 and 626 are reported to perform perfectly well in actual usage, and because they are on 14nm LPP like the 660, they get excellent battery life. Benchmarks are designed to demonstrate large performance differences even where these may not be very apparent to the average user. Only if you are playing games or are obsessed with dropped UI frames or app load times are you likely to require a flagship or big core mid-tier SoC. YMMV.

Well, that is exactly what I want. Could not care less for games. But after I got my OP3, I feel liberated.

I am asking here, because I would like to have a phone that I can recommend in clear conscience to everybody who asks. Because they do ask. I can't do that with 625/630, because I can't know how sensitive a person aksing is to speed.

I have an Honor 8 which has a Kirin 950 processor. It is the same core design as the 650, 4xA72/4xA53. The GPU is lackluster, but I have not noticed any major speed bumps otherwise. It is ~$325 on amazon now.

Fair enough, but there are so many other things to worry about, such as software / security updates, OEM software maturity and UI, warranty service, user or third party repairability, camera quality, source code for extended community support, NFC, size and ergonomics, to name a few.

Thanks for the suggestion. It is 300€ here, so price is fair.

But.. I know of 3 people with that one. They all broke their glass within first few days. The phone is incredibly slippery, and vibrations from a phone call make it slide of the table. I would never buy or suggest anyone to buy a phone made entirely out of glass, that is, IMHO, insanity.

Simple case solves the problem. The Huawei P9 is pretty much the same phone without the glass back, think it is a bit more $ though.

Well, case was in all 3 cases on their way, but were delivered to late

P9 is 340€ so that's not too bad. It's supposedly upgradable to nougat. I do not like huawei software at all, but i guess most people would not mind.
Thanks!

I do hope there is a pro edition or something of redmi note 5 with s660, that would be an insta recommendation.

Not likely Xiaomi wants to make money apparently, that's why the upsell to SD625, their fans also don;t seem to realize that RN4 or any other major (mid tier) launch from them in 2017 is basically a downgrade!

Speaking as an RN3 owner, there's nothing close to it in terms of an upgrade from any other Chinese device maker.

Really? Actually EVERYONE which has the RN3 are skipping the RN4 and only bought it in case they got stolen, because they even repair the broken screens themselves!

We are waiting for the SD 660 version of the Redmi Note 5, since seems that the SD 625 will be only for Redmi Note 5A (which is weird)

In my part of the world it's already a "bestseller" & has sold more than RN3 in the same time span. It's like the GPU (or CPU) rebadges where people are suckered into buying the latest GTX 11xx or Radeon 6xx which are basically the last gen parts. Not everyone looks at all the specs these days, be it phones or other electronic gadgets

How expensive would it be to make a chromebook with 4 gbs of ram and a snapdragon 652 (1.8 ghz a72, and 4x a53), 1080p touchscreen and each model has mobile included though the mobile is not activated but you can put various sims in there like t-mobile, verizon, etc.

Of course I want better specs than this, but I am curious how this "midrange" chromebook would cost.
