Where are Worms located?

If I have a lot of worms and back up files that are non-system files(like mp3's) would I back up the worms? Most worms that my virus scanners have found are in the Windows folder and its sub-folders so if I back up files that are not in those folders am I safe?

I tried, but they don't go away. I ran panda's online scanner and trend micro's online scanner and norton antivirus. nothing seems to work so I just want to format, but I need to back up a couple of files first.

I don't know how I have something called malware.worm_agobot-5. Only Trend Micro's online scanner finds it. I tried to google a solution, but I couldn't find any fixes.

I ran PC Micro's online scanner and it says it gets rid of it, but if I reboot and rescan the worm is back.

got a firewall, uptodate on windows update, system restore disabled?

System restore is disabled, I did update, and how does a firewall help me get rid of a worm?

it helps you from being reinfected. It also tells you when something is going out to the internet (not just what is coming in) and what it is.

Try a² Free ,disable system restore and set size to zero and reboot,you can renable it after your system is clean.

I used that a^2 program and it didn't find anything, but trend micro's housecall finds malware.worm_agobot-5.

The obvious solution to me is to install Linux, but you probably don't want to do that so i'll post something else, run one of those scanners and print out the files infected, DON'T backup those files, download every update for all of your SW, reformat and install your OS, install the updates, install your software, restore your backup and you should be fine.

That was what I was planning I just didn't want to back up the worms (I don't know how they work so I didn't know if I backed up files if the worm would jump into my external HDD)
