My bad. Never noticed to before.
1) Optical S/PDIF to coaxial S/PDIF doesn't exist.
2) Some devices, like my laptop, integrate optical and coax into a single mini-phono jack. There's actually an internal light emitter/detector at the end of the jack. When you use one of those cables or adapters, it's not "converting to coax" because the signal is optical at both ends of the cable.

Well it does, using the converter klin linked. They are pretty simple also since the optical and coaxial signalling is the same.
