Tattoo shop?

Really though it's going to be any job where they don't interact with customers at all or much.

My Dad works for a AC company (basically runs the place) and he was telling me how an installer was out so he had to get a guy to cover that is covered in tattoos top to bottom, has the screws in his head where he screws horns in, all that crazy shit. He said that the customer called him telling him he refused to let this guy work at his house.

The customer was Jewish and the temp installer guy had swastika tattoos on his arms.

Needless to say, that didn't go over well.

I'm not anti tattoos in anyway but think people who cover themselves head to toe need to realize it'll have a huge impact on their life and ability to make a decent paycheck.

One thing that seems more and more common is "regular" or even "attractive" looking people now days getting a somewhat large amount of visible tattoo's.

I was watching America's Got Talent earlier this week and there's this tap dancing act that's 3 brothers and one sister and the sister is a very pretty lady, very nice face, etc but this week she work an outfit that was sleeveless and shorter shorts and her legs and arms were covered with a number of tattoo's. She just didn't (to me) look to be the type. Didn't make me think she was any less attractive, but just seemed to not fit with her attractiveness to have that many IMO.

I'm kind of the same way. If tattoos make people happy then it's not like it's my business, however getting a tattoo that can't be easily covered up for a job interview is retarded unless you're planning on a career as a sailor or trucker.

Everytime I see a 16yo bagging groceries with GIANT EARHOLES I just chuckle to myself.

Probably work as chefs/cooks, mechanics, landscapers, masons, pre-school teachers, etc are a few that come to mind (j/k about the last one)

Of course these are all stereotypes and there are exceptions to every rule.

??

I visited a church where the children's pastor was a big biker type guy, totally inked up. The kids loved him and he did a great job with them. I also remember the priest at my Anglican church when I was a kid having tats up both arms.

(Yes, I used the word priest in a post without also using the word pedophile; if you feel the need to fix this for me then please at least realize that you are so far from original that your copy is too blurred to read.)

Most of the people I've met with full tattooing(not just random prison crap), are some of the smartest, most insightful people I've met. I'd have more confidence in them than the average ATOTer ;^)

I know a few people who *almost* meet that description. However, I don't think they were too insightful or smart when they originally got their tattoos, for they didn't stop to realize how mainstream society generally reacts to them. Most of them are fairly successful, but their tattoos have held them back to an extent. They had to work harder than other people because they had to overcome initial negative impressions.

In one case, the guy only got to his current (excellent) job because of a chance encounter between the person doing the hiring and a friend he had lunch with. "You should have seen this guy who came in... like he has a snowball's chance in hell of getting hired." "Omg, I know who you're talking about. He applied for the position? Hire him. Don't even waste time interviewing the rest of the guys who applied - call his references and you'll find out what I mean. Companies who have watched him working have begged him to come work for them. I'd hire him in a heartbeat. Forget what he looks like - he's the best worker you'll get." Since getting hired, he's worked his way up to the top within a couple of years, bypassing quite a few people along the way. BUT, it was only shear luck that a chance encounter occurred which got him hired in the first place - without that encounter, he wouldn't have even gotten an interview.

Such as the ones with visible neck tatoos, sleeves, behind the ears, and around the eyes. I saw one guy with tear drop tattoos and something scribbled on his forehead.

Where do these people work? Who employs them? Some factory working way in the back? Tattoo parlor? Creative work?

tattoos are so pervasive with younger generations that it won't belong before any "stigma" is gone completely.

I think it's safe to say that most people who're getting face tattoos aren't the type of person who would thrive in a corporate/image-conscious environment anyway. So yes, factory, construction, hipster startup, self-employed, creative, etc...

Tattoos are turn off for me. Thus, I don't have any myself.

Pretty much. I'm not a fan of tattoos or even piercings. My GF has a tattoo on the inside of her ankle and she wants more. I told her she can do whatever she wants with her body, just don't expect me to like the outcome.

If people want the freedom to get tatted up go ahead, but understand that with that freedom to do so, I have the freedom to not like it and generalize and sterotype you because of your choices.

What's the 1st thing you think of when you see a chick with a tattoo at the base of her back/top of her butt? AKA Tramp Stamp?

If you are exceptional at your job, you could come to work with a parrot on your shoulder that shits on your coat. Of course it won't help, but it doesn't prevent you from gaining even top-end employment.

I dated a girl who had both sleeves, her full back, both calves, a thigh, and various other "small" art elsewhere. She has over 100 hours of ink, and intends to get her entire upper torso inked... a "full shirt."

A very astute businesswoman, she and her un-inked sister own their own clothing and jewelry store in the Deep Ellum area of Dallas. She is an incredibly hard working person, and she is the operations manager for the enterprise.

Never underestimate somebody based solely upon their appearance.

You are confusing a rebellious attitude with a lack of ambition... a foolish mistake.

PS Update... I do not have any tattoos. Prior to dating this lady, I was skeptical like you. She really opened my eyes from my narrow minded thinking.

I disagree. Even a lot of people with tattoos agree that getting them where you can't cover them up easily in a professional environment is quite dumb.

Well seeing as how Anglican priests are allowed to marry and therefore get their rocks off the normal way I see no reason to assume that they're all creepy.

I still find it comical people still stereotype due to tattoos.

In my mind, the act of bringing stereotypes into play should be reserved until after you have a complete physical picture of a person: what type of art has been inked, how the person dresses, and how they talk.

And yes, I am being serious. If they sound educated, the art is not offensive (religious ink, or ink showcasing non-belief, I wouldn't consider offensive, but I guess it could easily offend the wrong person), and the way they dress is socially acceptable... would you really not hire them if they also have the experience/credentials?

Of course, tattoo placement is fairly crucial.

I have one tattoo currently, though it is not visible unless I am shirtless.
I am looking for more, not sure about the location as of yet. Upper arm wouldn't be so bad, and good short-sleeve work shirts would cover most of it up I imagine, though in my opinion upper arm is hardly a disaster for employment.

I'll never get a neck or face tattoo, that's just retarded for professionally-minded people. I have considered a good ink sleeve, but honestly cannot think of that many worthy ideas to have represented with art.

My idea for tattoos, on my body, revolve around ideas that I cherish, ones that I know I will firmly stand by my entire life. I have quite a few, just no idea how the hell to translate them into good artwork. I detest text tattoos.

So you feed the stereotype?

Personally, I would only get a very specific tattoo (Imperial Cog on right shoulder) and I will never do it because there may be a time in my life when I don't like Star Wars.

I work at a public university as staff. I have lettering down the inside of both forearms and nobody has said boo to me about it. Eventually when I set my heart on the artwork I will get partial sleeves done on both arms.

And the idea that it may interfere with my career choices is non factor in any decisions I make.

There is a huge difference between "covered" and "sleeves". IMO, Covered not so sure about. However, a heavy dosage of tattoos are very cool.
Mind you, I don't know very many with a crappy tattoo. There is a ton of crap out there.

I am an attorney and have tattoos that are easily covered by dress shirts/suits. I don't think it is a good idea to have ink that is clearly visible in most professional environments. Some judges here throw you out of their courtroom if you chew gum.

I am really surprised theres that many people on here who are anti-tattoo.

Of course I would say that being covered in tattoos is 100% ok, but I there are some limitations.

1) what kind of tattoos. Gang-related, racist, naked girls/guys(if thats how you swing) are all inappropriate to put on a visible area of the body for work environment.

2) Where are the tattoos. Sleeves are OK if the tattoos that will be visible follow rule 1. Face/head tattoos are pretty much out of the question. The only people who get face tattoos are basically gang members.

If you want a good example of tattoos in the workplace; check out the Blizzard dev team.

I think the stigma about tatoos is fading with the younger generation. I dont have one, but I dont see a problem with them as long as they are in good taste, not like a skull tattooed to your face, or a picture of male genitals on your chin. Ive thought about getting a tatoo probably on my back, but I cant think of anything id really want to carry around with me my whole life.
