I never carry a concealed weapon. It's just way more hassle than it's worth.

If someone wants what's in my wallet they can have it.

Assumption alert. Who says they are only after your wallet? Just something to think about.

What else would they be after? I offer what...98 cents in minerals?

I'm guessing he's saying they'll want a piece of your ass.

Apparently it's different in Texas, but in other places most people don't have to worry about constantly defending their bodily orifices from assault.

Wow, I didn't realize that Texas was the only place in the world with rapists and murderers. I gotta get the hell out of here.

Yes, because there is no crime anywhere except for the low income areas. If you live in a 500k+ area outside of the city, you can just stop locking your doors because there is no crime. If you even have to lock your doors at night, you should move to a better area.

Criminals never heard of the invention called cars or vans or trucks. They still walk around and so their crime is limited to the short distance from their lairs.

EDIT: Oh yea, and everyone who lives in a nice little development is a perfect angel. A person would yell "sweet jehosaphat" at the thought of any harm coming to their fellow man.

For real! If I even suspected I was in danger of being set upon by a band of lonely hillbillies I'd be outta there in a heartbeat. Besides, if they they're desperate enough to think I look good I doubt they'd be dissuaded by firearms.

I don't carry when running...the only thing I'll carry is an MP3 player.

I run on post with other Army officers, and my ferocious attack terrier. So my risks are adequately mitigated. Back pre-.mil I usually ran on a treadmill because I was too afraid to run outside unarmed.

Nobody at my YMCA seems threatening. If they want my treadmill, they can have it after my 30 minutes.

I take my dog (boxer) and pepper spray and leave my pistol at home when I jog.

You should see a therapist.

Why would you carry when you're jogging? You should just kick up the pace when someone tries to confront you.

If I had to do that, I'd probably just get a gym membership or buy a treadmill to put in my house. I'd be too worried about the gun going off if it accidentally dropped or something. Plus, wouldn't it be uncomfortable to exercise while carrying a gun?

Paranoid much? Sure, there is crime no matter where you live. But, if you worry about it to the level you are insinuating....?

If you can, live some place where the crime is below average and don't worry about it. Sure, I might be mugged tonight (or worse) but the statistics strongly support that tonight will be like every other night I go running....uneventful.

Oh and to OP question, never felt like I needed protection when I go running.

The only thing I run with is a key for my house, and a cheap small mp3 player.

IMO joggers are the most worthless people to try and mug because they're unlikely to have much on them. Maybe if you want an mp3 player they are an easy target, but beyond that pick someone who's likely to have pockets full of valuable stuff.
Hell, I don't even wear my watch if I'm jogging.

Yea, I'm considered paranoid among my group of friends and coworkers, but then there are others I think are freaks. As I said in a previous post, I carry a flashlight, a can of mace and try to keep situational awareness up because a gun would just be overkill. I don't like to rely on the odds as the only thing keeping me safe.

Some people think I'm crazy for having about a months worth of supplies in food/water/medicine/etc but are often surprised when I bring up that Sacramento is right after New Orleans on the list of vulnerable cities. It just takes a little effort to help be prepared, and it sucks hard when you aren't.

EDIT: I don't live my life in a bottle. I don't cancel gym memberships after the gym shooting and realistically, there wasn't much that could have been done to stop something like that. Think of the recent articles about how a pizza delivery saved a kidnapped woman from who knows what. That could have been my wife/mother/sister/friend. If they had some pepper spray, maybe it could have saved them. Aside from that, I try to make sure my wife runs with another person if I'm not available to run with her.

I don't see every other person as a devil, but I see what "people" are capable of. Especially when times are hard, or if they're just crazy. We have enough crazy (perhaps me included) people in the world to make me want to be a little more prepared.

i know im having a bad day when im getting rolled for my house key, an ancient 256mb iriver mp3 player and my beat-ass adidas running shoes.

speaking of which, whatever happened to exercise etiquette out there? it used to be that i could say 'morning/evening' or 'hi' to a passer-by and get likewise in return. but nowadays it seems like im fortunate if i get so much as a grunt. granted when i go on trails people seem to be more polite, but when im out on the streets it just seems like everyone has forgotten their manners.

I bought a spandex band that holds a 380 on my leg. It's like the belly band, only for the upper leg. Not as easy to get to, but it works. I tried the belly band, but it was too hot.

Why do I carry when running? Well, once I was attacked by a very large dog who escaped from his owner. I got some nice stitches from that encounter and we never did find the owner. If I'm going to carry, I might as well carry a pistol. It has a much larger effective range then pepper spray, and it's more effective.

My wife also carries when she runs. Her iphone and a pistol in a fanny pack with a bottle of water on the side.
