Download files to the desktop, right click, extract to desktop\filename, go to that dir, install, lookat, whatever the file, delete folder, go looking for folder and hour later, smack myself for deleting it.

I have GetRight drop the files into one partition, then I right-click with WinZip and extract to a folder of the same name. For multiple files, I use WinRAR after putting the archives into a folder away from the rest of the stuff.

Depends on the file. Most unzip to the desktop. Some have a specific place. Audio on the G: drive video on the d: drive programs mostly to the e: drive.

I'm a Unix fiend, so on my Windows boxes, my fastest partition has a \tmp directory -- that is habitually where I download things to. Once they have downloaded, I'll usually create a subdirectory of \tmp to store them in. If it's a one shot, I create a short temp directory name (like z, x, etc.) and unzip the file in there.

I download the zipped file to my desktop, double-scan it for viruses and then extract it with PowerDesk to an appropriate folder, depending if it's an important (or accessory) program, a song, an image, etc...

I download them in g:\donwloads\zip

then look what's in them with Windows Commander, and if I need to, then extract

usually i just view and do everything from the zip itself, but if a need a temp directory I will just unzip it to D:\1415413 or some easily recognizable garbage like that.

in unix I just gunzip -r *.gz
in MS OS I just do a pkzip25 -extract -directories *.zip
so basically just where ever they happen to be.

I have a directory where I keep all my temp stuff... like stuff I download from the net, etc... I also unzip everything to that directory first, and if the files turn out to be useful, then I move them...

This way if something goes wrong (like the zip file contains hundreds of files and I dont want any of them), I can just delete that directory...
