Yea I'm sure it's real easy to come up with search terms that will give the result he's looking for.

how about "origin 3.profit" without the quotes

see the second result

or does it hurt too much to think?

It would have taken you less effort if you had just answered his question.

No one ever said it, it was a master plan drawn on a chalk board or carved in a rock or something. The text for #2 was missing (erased or chipped or something), so the gnomes just kept doing #1 until they eventually figured out what #2 was, so they could get to #3. Profit!

I believe the gnomes had a poster with the 1,2,3 written on it. The spoken part was "Phase 1 - Collect Underpants. Phase 3 - Profit!

I could very well be wrong though.

Edit: what he said ^^^

Seriously, even though there's only been like 2 on-topic replies, this thread is great.

It's absolutely hilarious and pathetic. Sheer poetry.

My opinion on the whole Google bit is, WHO THE HELL CARES? I mean, if he wants to inquire on a forum, he can. Who's to say it's wrong? I'm sure many of the inquiries on this forum could have been found in Google, thus making the point of this forum insignificat. I thought this forum was a medium for sharing info, and deterring people from looking for info here doesn't help anybody's situation.

My suggestion would be:

1. Google
2. Search the forums
3. Ask question in the forums

I'll place my money on the fact that OP skipped straight to #3

You don't give google enough credit.

Please let this thread die

So... rather than post in a forum where people use it all the time, which takes less than 20 seconds, he should comb google for an answer, even though he knows for a fact that people here use it and know the meaning but he doesn't know whether google will?

In fact I highly doubt google will provide an answer "faster" if by faster you mean in less time of HIS spent. It may be true that the actual start time to answer time according to the clock is quciker. But it's much quicker to spend 20 seconds typing a post, then come back later and check the results.

Well, let's use this thread as an example. OP would've had to wait 10 minutes to get the answer in this forum. He posted at xx:54, and the first answer came in at xx:04. using google, I found the answer in 10 seconds. The difference in time to wait for the answer in this thread is negligible. He would need to have this thread already on the page, and maybe he would hit F5 every 2 minutes to get the answer. That right there is a waste of time. Most likely, he navigated away from the page. Maybe he had the fourms bookmarked, he would still need to navigate to this thread. Not to mention, what if he has ADD? Maybe 10 minutes goes by and the shiny quarter makes him forget he even made this thread?

You neglected to mention the time it takes him to open up a new browser window, type in google, and read the links, then close the window, come back to anandtech and reorient himself.

You also neglected to mention that it takes some time to come up with a successful search hit. Even the one you supplied on the search results page says, "claims it's from South Park, but I don't believe him." Therefore he would have to also click on a potentially unsafe link (don't know about you but I've never heard of cfrq.net) or continue looking through the search results for an answer.
