Just as it was across the country. Everyone "thought" it was a cake walk for Hillary, then the closeted Trump cult came out of the shadows and surprise.... Donald Trump elected president.
On no, conservatives haven't gone anywhere. They just lurk in the shadows until its safe to sound off. They'll be back late election night 2020 after Trump wins a second term.

It was definitely that and not the fact that their material conditions had deteriorated since Obama took office in 2008, Obamacare sucked, and Hillary had absolutely no message for them and didn't even bother campaigning for their votes.

What do you think "leaning heavily to the left" means?

I personally consider it to be say being a strong proponent of rolling out universal income nationwide anywhere as if it's a proven solution despite the lack of demonstrable real world examples of it working, or say someone who strongly advocates socialism as if it's a proven solution as a general rule throughout both the public and private sectors (as opposed to say being a proponent of it in specific and limited scenarios).

I personally have never encountered anyone with either of these views. I'm sure there are some people here who think that either idea sounds like a theoretically good idea, perhaps in specific scenarios, but who also feel that a "theoretically good idea" is a million miles away from considering it to be a fact that either of these ideas are definitely sound in reality.

"Universal healthcare" is often referred to as a socialist model despite the fact that it isn't one. The NHS in the UK is an example of "universal healthcare", yet the public have very little say in how it is run, nor is there any concept of public shareholding in it. The government owns it and they fund, organise and sell it as they see fit. Personally I think a socialist NHS would be a pretty terrible idea as the general public has about as much idea of how to run a nationwide healthcare organisation as they do brain surgery. However I am a staunch advocate of universal healthcare, in my opinion it makes as much sense to provide free access to necessary healthcare as it is to provide at least a basic education for all. Furthermore I suspect that at least 90% of ring-wingers in the UK are also staunch advocates of universal healthcare.

I'm not sure that I've seen much in the way of support of any of those things except for Medicare for All.

But no, those are not 'as far "left" as it goes'. Extreme left positions would include things like the total abolition of capitalism as an economic system, the dissolution of private property, a centrally planned economy, worker owned production, etc.

Well I believe in the renationalisation of various industries, redistribution of wealth through income and inheritance taxes, increasing the social burden on companies....

I just dont discuss things like that here because it's not really the place for it.

This is a leftest forum, differing opinions aren't welcome. I would assume the same holds true at conservative forums. The reality is we don't like people not in our tribe, and that's perfectly acceptable, it's how were wired, and the system works. Most of the "others" have left, we've successfully driven off the undesirables and protected our tribe. This is victory, enjoy it.

Differing views are welcome if you can support them with data and evidence. This board, given that it is primarily made up of people who value data and evidence over everything else, tends to settle on similar viewpoints and contrary viewpoints are rejected because they run contrary to the evidence.
