It's new TIM and +500MHz. Whatever temp and OC results AT gets aren't going to necessarily be indicative of all DC CPUs due to silicon lottery and testing methodologies. More user results are online everyday...

Wow. So much negativity from one delayed review! Intel were slow getting their review sample to AT, and they have been busy with articles like the excellent Midgard deep dive. Chill

Well nobody cares at this point because every other website had reviews up weeks ago.

Does intel still provide review samples to AT? I could see why they wouldn't.

Of course Intel does. They sponsored the AT podcasts at MWC and IDF.

Well, much like the mantle review (not the preview) is MIA. I guess once a delay passes a certain threshold its news value has faded so much that the article space is better used towards ads or the next samsung phone. It is a $-numbers game. I am betting we wont see a devils review on anandtech, cause well, it is too late to the party.

Money aside, I do understand why Anandtech has slowed down greatly on the PC side of things. There simply hasn't been much of anything interesting aside from the occasional +10% performance boost. I don't really care for mobile myself, and I find many of the pc related articles to be woefully predictable due to above, so I rarely go to the main page nowadays.

anandtech used to be the first up with computer parts reviews, especially CPU releases. Sad to see they're focusing on smartphones more than their core audience. We like computer parts, not smartphones!

Think what you may about Tom's Hardware, they have stayed much more focused on the PC than Anand. They still have monthly articles on best cpu and gpu (which seems Anand is copying), the various tier system builder articles, and much more timely reviews of PC hardware than anand has recently. Not to mention frame pacing in gaming reviews.

So I dont give anand a free pass just because the landscape is changing, when other sites seem to be able to still devote considerable resources to the PC.

It is what it is. I really like these forums, but the site interests me less than it used to.

edit: I think I was exaggerating a little.

Tom's goes in fits and starts. Back in the PII/PIII days, they were pretty awesome. Then later they were awful. Then they slowly got better. Now they're alright I guess. I liked their Pentium G3258 review.

Anandtech will never review everything to the extent that we might want, no matter how successful the site might seem. And like crashtech, the forums interest me more than the site now. Their SSD reviews are still top-notch, and they have some good motherboard reviews (interestingly enough).

There is no one site that is going to do the best reviews for every PC component. Anandtech's CPU reviews are kinda half-arsed and too few to be of interest, in my opinion.

Anand historically does much more in depth reviews that take more time. It is better to be patient and wait for quality instead of rushing and getting an incomplete review that leaves you wanting more.

Why haven't the reviews ever been this delayed historically in that case?

I like seeing true retail chips that are current batches vs es samples 6 months out of current process improvements given today's fabs / tech.
-ib I have was picked for it's newest date over the 3 month older ones in the display case.

Also, thought thats what preview and review were for .. preview the fast superficial impression of the product and the review being the in-depth technical article.

Because of the massive anti-Intel conspiracy, duh!

Give Jihe a break. The reason some think Intel would slight Anand is because of the paid AMD center, which sort of masquerades as news articles while actually being paid advertising by AMD. Personally, since there are ads plastered all over this site (and pretty much every other tech site) from various manufacturers, I dont see it as evidencing any major bias toward AMD, but it is treading on shaky ground IMO, and needs to be made clearer that it is in fact paid advertising.

In any case, for DC, this is irrelevant because Ian Cutress has already said they have the chip, and this was quite some time ago.

I count on the forum members to review the newest hardware anyway, always have. I only go to the main page to see if the horrible design of it has changed occasionally. The forums have always been more important to me on this site, the main page has just turned to an advertising model anyway to generate income, which I suppose has it's use to pay for these forums which like I said, are the most important.

I'm not entirely sure what could be done to make it more clear. The AMD Center displays a very clear "PRESENTED BY AMD" logo in the corner, alongside a "What is this?" icon. Hovering over that icon displays the following text:

You've landed on the AMD Portal on AnandTech. This section is sponsored by AMD. It features a collection of all of our independent AMD content, as well as Tweets & News from AMD directly. AMD will also be running a couple of huge giveaways here so check back for those.

Seems pretty clear, frankly.

EDIT: Besides, Hexus.net has a similar AMD Center collecting AMD stories, and they published their 4790k review over a month ago.

They just posted a review of a product that has a very low volume(compared to DC) and a ton of competition. Such a product might interest maybe 0.5% of the site's audience yet they didn't review the most major CPU launch of the year, that sounds like a failure to me.
