The cpu's have been out for a while now.....but where is Anandtech's official review of these cpu's??

I've been waiting patiently but it seems kind of weird that there is still nothing at all.

Good question. Ian supposedly got the cpu some time ago. I dont remember when, but it must have been a week or two. His excuse then was that they were late getting the cpu. What is the excuse now?

I hardly ever even go to Anand's homepage anymore, but just go to the forums and try to screen out as much useful information as possible.

I dont really get it. There was a big review on haswell refresh for the normal cpus, which was only a very minor speed bump, but they never even published the promised in depth review of mantle and now no DC review either. Very disappointing.

Anand historically does much more in depth reviews that take more time. It is better to be patient and wait for quality instead of rushing and getting an incomplete review that leaves you wanting more.

I emailed Ian a couple Sundays ago, and said he was hoping to have it up last week, which obviously didn't happen. At this point, I've stopped caring, and I'll just read it whenever it finally shows up.

Because pffft is why. A stock non K 4770 is more than sufficient for anything bar really heavy workloads where you'd want a Xeon or 2. Even better if your mobo supports MCE and you pump it to 3.9GHz at load all cores/threads. Overclocking is less and less important now.

he's looking for a polite way to say "WTF IS THIS SHIT?!"

Profanity is not allowed in the tech forums. apparently

Isn't it just a 4770K clocked higher with improved TIM/IHS & power delivery ? Good product, but nothing new architecture wise.

They refined the 3D transistors with this model.

You no longer have to wear them weird glasses with red/blue lenses in them in order to use it.

Maybe because of Google IO? I think Anand said he was doing a review of those smartwatches.

Anandtech is hardly a PC site anymore. They are more busy on the new iPod colour options and stuff like that than of something like this.

Try to keep a positive attitude folks, don't bite the hand that feeds

Whatever the reason for the delay, surely we can't blame the hometeam for doing whatever they do with the priorities they assign to them.

...considering the forum geekers - we're the base of the site for many years before it became more "look at the new thing apple is doing" - aren't we entitled to some attention to more and more sparse enthusiast released gagdets?

Anandtech stopped being a PC site quite a few years ago. Despite the forums the website is really about Apple's latest shiny and cell phones. They still haven't caught up with the industry in regards to frame testing for graphics and CPU testing has fallen well behind as well. Its simply not the focus anymore and hasn't been for a very long time.

Sad but true. I have had this forum bookmarked for years and I always clicked that Anandtech logo at the top left to check out the recent articles after reading the forums. Since the content has changed so much I usually find nothing interesting and have stopped bothering to check nearly as often.

Has it got anything to do with AMD Center? Is AMD paying AT not to release review of DC? Or is Intel not allowing AT because of AMD Center?

Im sure when the Devil's Canyon review comes out it will be pretty detailed analysis of what "went wrong" with the product (as Intel was clearly expecting more). Anand usually holds out for all that sort of info rather than just publish numbers and update the article later (which you could certainly argue would be the better approach).

As for what others are saying, yes, Anandtech is far more a Gadget website than Computer website these days. I dont know if there shorthanded or what but computer reviews seem to come at glacial speed.

On the other hand they pull out stuff like their A7/A8 articles very quickly, which are very good articles, so it seems that's just where their interest lies.

Change with the times, or die...I guess.

One angle is that there just isn't that much interesting coming out in PC land these days. AT still covers the salient bits of that, anyway.

Another angle is that who wants to cover the same type of motherboard 900 times? Same for power supplies, computer chassis, video cards. I'd have slit my wrists years ago if I'd been running a tech site as long as Anand has and still only covering USB ports and motherboard standoffs.

Hell, out of my ever-shrinking list of hardware sites, all of them have scaled back their hardware coverage save for one (TPU). Most of what's left have become nothing much more than RSS feeds for various manufacturers.

It seems, then, that the pc parts coverage industry as a whole has gotten rather stale.

Anand only does reviews if he gets free samples. Apparently he is too poor to buy review samples. So maybe intel didn't give out a freebie, like nvidia with their latest gpu.

Based on the wholesale purchase of the Anandtech site Intel might be unwilling to give their CPUs for review to a site that so blatantly declares that its an AMD zone. I said it when when first added the AMD centre that while it might be good for cashflow it makes people question Anandtech's independence. Maybe the IHV's are asking it as well.

I dont think its related. Samsung also got its own tab in the top now as well. Easy money I guess. But again, you dont read Anandtech for PC news anyway. So its a waste of sponsor money for AMD for example, while its more lucretive for Samsung.

Anand himself have for a long time only been interested in gadgets.

Yes, their damning review of the R9 290 and dim view of Kaveri are really indicators that Anandtech have sold out. :sneaky:

Seriously, this is just as utterly ridiculous as the AMD fanboys who claim that Anand is bought and sold by Intel. It's just a bit of marketing, and in no way affects Anand's integrity. Or do you think he is taking bribes from Corsair, MSI, and every other company which buys ad space on the website?

Lobbyist money doesnt change politicians view either, right?

Taking sponsor money does change views. The only thing to argue about is how much. But I assume it just shows that they dont care anymore about the credibility. Then it doesnt matter how bad or positive a review may be, you can always raise the question mark. And with good right to do so.
