Where is the Anandtech RX480 Polaris Full Review?

I'm only able to find a preview on anandtech, am I missing something?

The card was released in June, many months ago, so I'd have expected a full review as we had for the Pascal cards.

Anandtech's hardware reviews are essentially dead unless you like storage, PSUs, phones, or some occasional random hardware that some company's PR team decided to send out.

Might get it once it's feature in an Apple Laptop or Cell Phone. (Sorry Anandtech, you guys have lost that muster.)

It's nothing short of complete failure that the one of only 2 exciting pieces of computer hardware, and arguably the more exciting of the two, is glossed over on a near permanent basis on Anandtech now. Case reviews? PSU reviews? Keyboard reviews? BFD. Everytime new GPU's come out, they're game changing hardware from either a performance, price, or feature perspective. It's arguably the most important component that goes into a gaming PC.

And this site's coverage has gone from late to completely absent. It's a shame, it's inexcusable, and it's also sad to see priorities so out of whack. I get that mobile phones may rule viewer traffic now, but not one of the editors can look anyone in the face and say that keyboards, PSUs, cases, or any other component (sans CPUs) draw the same kind of traffic that video card reviews get.

Is cpu more important than gpu review at this point? I'd guess just by forum traffic and talk that gpu is the single most important hardware piece that people are interested in now.

I agree with everything else. This has been truly disappointing since anandtech had the best articles to actually read. You can get benches from a wide variety of sources. You can't get the architecture analysis anandtech has everywhere

Oh I totally think GPU's are more exciting and interesting than CPU's are nowadays, but I was just prefacing what I was saying... you know.... just in case.

I'd say that if you're a true hardware enthusiast, you're always stupidly excited for a gpu/cpu article from anandtech. They're well written and fun to read. With so many people using YouTube it's hard to get a good written review. I hope they start giving it attention again.

This thread will probably get merged though into the other thread.

I tend to reference Computerbase or PCGH. This is partly because I can read German, and partly because they are fairly objective.

You can expect a full review of the next Chinese smartphone that no one has ever heard of, but don't expect anymore GPU reviews.

My guess is that Anandtech looked at their traffic numbers and decided that mobile is where its at, not GPUs.

Lol I'm glad I'm not the only one that feels the same way about Keyboard reviews. Keyboards! lol. I bought a DAS 6 years ago and haven't even though about keyboards since then (and I'm not sure I even read reviews on my DAS).

One thing I will say is that if they have a 'preview' of something they should 100% have a full review afterwards. Quite lame to preview some early benchmarks or other details and then not follow up.

The lack of GPU reviews from Anandtech is certainly a bit worrisome, and I miss the architecture deep dives as much as the next guy.

But I'm curious about the ones writing that it's time to find a new site, I mean when Anandtech's previews are as in depth as most other sites reviews, and I for one haven't seen any site that has managed to meet the standard set by Anandtech's full reviews anywhere, then there really aren't a lot of alternatives. So where exactly would you go?

Start a GoFundMe to hire Anand back from Apple.

They are the ones to blame.

Yeah, the downturn in quantity of content does seem to have coincided with Anand leaving, although I think Ryan also went through some health issues around the same time, but I might be misremembering on that one.

I am not normally a conspiracy nut, but this seemed like a way for Apple to shut Anand up.

I mean, only Anand discovered that the iPhone 5S, 6 and 6 Plus had less effective RAM than the iPhone 5.

Then Anand gets hired, we get to Chipgate with the iPhone 6s and Joshua Ho (who overall I like) completely gives Apple a pass when Anand wouldn't have. I had to read OTHER sites to learn that the Samsung chip was ALWAYS hotter, and therefore everyone who got an iPhone with one of those chips in it got screwed over in a small way.

And now we have the iPhone 7 with that way inferior Intel radio. You know Anand would have not been kind about that.

It is easier to buy out the enemy than always make your products awesome. Whatever they are paying Anand is a bargain for them just to shut him up.

I very much doubt this has anything to do with it. Not because Anandtech's reviews wouldn't have been more critical if Anand had still been on board, but rather because articles from a site like Anandtech probably has close to zero influence on the total sales of iPhones. Basically Anandtech is an enthusiast site, and the vast vast majority of Apple products are not bought by enthusiast.

It sounds nutty but sometimes we need excuses to rationalize away the pain.

Its not that insane really, same thought has passed through my mind.

I LOL'd at all the comments in regards to PSUs, keyboards, mice and random Chinese phones. I thought the exact same thought.

PSUs: buy a Seasonic or Silverstone.
Keyboards: all mechanical ones are the same.
Mice: try one out in store.
Case: it's fugly, they all have the same features.
Chinese phone: not an iPhone or Galaxy, don't care.
There, done. Now, can we please get a review about GPUs and CPUs?

Highly doubt it.

Anand was hired by Apple for his insights into the future of computing. He covered everything from iPhones, iPads, Macs and displays. A lot of what he predicted, not just regards to Macs, but to general PC computing has turned out to be true: ultrabooks dominated, tablets would struggle to find a market and the desktop would be replaced by a docked ultra book.

I don't think most of the people buying iPhones, would avoid it because Anand found out about a RAM/cellular radio issue.

if i want to get raw performance numbers i go to other sites these days, but i would like a site like Anandtech to have more architecture deep dives and explanations about technical features rather than benchmarking.
on a different note, AT is my go to site before getting a new phone
