Where is the best place to sell a wedding ring after a divorce?

Original purchase price was $7,500.

Thanks in advance.

A jeweler will pay wholesale. Craigs list will get you closer to retail but be sure to do the exchange in your bank or a police station.

I'd try the same jeweler that you bought it from, at least they know it's genuine, and they know how much you paid for it. Bonus if you actually still have a receipt or any kind of proof of purchase. You might not be able to do an actual return, but they might still buy it at a lower price. Worth a shot.

I personally would not do craigslist etc, too risky.

Though I'm trying to figure out the context here, is she actually giving you the ring back? I figured in a divorce situation she just keeps it.

It's a female family member.

I think the first thing is get it appraised by a jeweler certified in such.....maybe get two, but I don't know the cost of doing so. But getting an appraisal will at least give you a retail baseline that's current to today.

Then insure. Then......

Seriously, getting it appraised (esp. at a place you're not going to try to sell to) will give you at least a feel for how much jewelers are going to undercut the "worth" of the ring.

How is the OP supposed to rob the buyer of all their cash if they make the exchange in such public places?

pshhh.

Drop it off in any local charity that deals with used goods. Take the sizable tax deduction, and the disposal headache is someone else's problem.

This. Value it as jewelry worth, say, $2k (half what you paid for it) and you've knocked more off your tax bill than you'll likely get for it yourself.

There seems to be a funny ratio with marriage: the more expensive the wedding ring, the more likely the divorce.

On that note, at $7500 (unless you got screwed), there is probably a lot of high quality diamonds and gold in there. A private jeweler might buy it off of you at a decent price. My father-in-law bought a bunch of jewelry at an estate sale a few years back, and it turned out some of the rings were real. A local jeweler was interested in the stones and gave him $2500 for one ring and $1700 for another.

I find it best to swallow it down with a triple shot of wild turkey then crap it out with the rest of the turds for a fitting resting place...
