so even coldest city on Earth (Yakutsk) has 4 seasons and 250,000 population... I would say what is the worst climate for you is not the worst climate for ones living there... so why bother? You're not there, enjoy your 76F.

I would submit that if you were to poll all 250,000 people, not a single person would put "weather" as their primary reason for living in Yakutsk.

Just because people live all over the world, and there are some differences in individual tolerance of heat/cold, doesn't mean that we can't agree on some places as clearly having awful weather.

I would say something like wisconsin or MA, cold as balls in the winter, hot and humid during the summer.

I live in southern WI, and although we do get humidity here in the summer, it is not usually constant week after week. It is completely tolerable. And winters also vary, this year is unusually cold and snowy, but we have had some very mild winters in the recent past.

I would have to vote for Alaska, where it is always a cold and snowy winter, and especially since it has the short days with extended darkness. That would just be depressing.

My second vote would go towards one of the southern states as others have mentioned that get the terrible humidity for extended periods of time.

And lastly, I would say maybe Washington because of all the rain. Constant, cold, dreary, wet rain just seems miserable.

Anyplace with high humid temperatures in the summer. I can manage with the cold. It hasn't been above freezing since December 5th where I'm at.

Upstate Minnesota -

I cant think of any redeeming quality of having snow for 7-months of the year, then floods in the spring, then millions of mosquitoes in the summer.

Never been there but heard a lot of stories of misery.

2nd place would go to Buffalo where the Lake Effect Snow is incessant.

My Wife fucking LOVES over 100 degrees...she doesn't feel comfortable until it's over 80, and hates wearing dresses or skirts below 85. She swears she's a lizard.

I am similar. I like the coldest to be 60 degrees and love it at 100 degrees. Born and raised in Arizona and still like the hot weather over the cold.

Central IL sucks. -17f this winter. Like 30 days of 90+ of humid as shit two summers ago. We get the worst of both worlds.

I vote Texas (Dallas) , you get the worst of all types of weather. Freezing cold, ice/snow, humid, disgusting heat. You get like 2 weeks of decent weather in fall/spring and the rest is Shitty.

AMEN.

We have summers where we have ~100 days of 100F+, and about 2/3rds of that time we have the vicious combo of little to no breeze, crap air quality, and horribad humidity/west nile virus mosquito clouds.

Then we have a weekend of fall, followed by screw you freeze your balls off winter (in which we rarely see snow, rather icy hell instead), then a 'spring' that's alternatively okayish followed by more cold, followed by HAIL STORMS/WIND STORMS/TORNADOES/RAIN. Maybe we get lucky and have two to seven days of 'spring' before the weather turns up to 11 again, 95 to 105 degrees for the summer once more.

It's spectacular bullcrap.

I live in the Sacramento Valley and most coastal types moan "Its so hot there in the summer!!!". Yeah, its like 90-100 most summer days... with 20% humidity. Really not that bad. My brother lives in Western Kentucky, have family in Oklahoma City and a good friend in Des Moines. Usually when I visit any of them my first thought is "This weather is just nasty!".

I can vouch for this. On the rare occassions it's not too hot or too cold, it's still too flat. And it smells like cow.

Absolute worst would probably be SE Alaska. I'm an Oregonian, so I kind of enjoy low clouds and drizzle for a while during the winter. But if I had to put up with it for 11.5 months I'd slit my wrists.

Crapiest in the summer? The deep South. So freaking hot and humid = misery!!!

I don't know how folks were able to live before AC/electricity down here.

I love the south. I would HATE to live in the south. Any place hotter than Chicago in the summer is completely impossibly miserable to me.

I think the worst weather in the US would have to be Las Vegas area, or any other desert area where it gets over 100 deg regularly.

If we are talking about seasonal, then I'd say draw a radius of about 500 miles around New Orleans. That is the great circle of 24 hour daily summer sauna.

In the winter, I think probably places like Barrow or other very low density places with lacking connecting infrastructure would be the worst due to logistics problems. Even if the weather is tolerable due to not too much wind/heavy snow, and one could go dog-sledding, skiing, snowmobiling, or out playing in the woods ... The fact that my Amazon packages would be late would be upsetting ...

my favorite weather --- Door County area of Wisconsin ... in the summer, it is generally about 10-15 degrees cooler than Chicago. If it's 90 in Chicago, it's around 80 in Sturgeon Bay. If it's 100 in Chicago, it maybe is 85 or so in Sturgeon bay. Can be pretty hot/bad during the day, but, almost every evening it's beautiful, AC rarely needs to be run at night.

I'm sure much of Michigan would also have similar agreeable weather.

Michigan can have its bad spells in any particular season (lots of rain, lots of humidity, lots of snow, etc) but it usually isn't all in one year. If you have a crappy winter, the spring / summer will be a little better, etc.

Overall though, the fall season here is great pretty much every year. It's the only season I really look forward to every single year.

This year, spring can come a little earlier too, though

35+ starting next week. That's practically summer weather.

To be fair not all had a choice back then.
