Waiting for a affordable $300 4k monitor that does both IPS or better color and 60hz before i jump off my 770.Willing to bet its gonna be so damn long i might end up going with a 1440p IPS and Maxwell.

Same except I'll need 120hz for there to be any point for me. That's the only thing I'm really missing on my current 1600p 30". I have the funds, but the market is just not producing what I want. 30hz seriously?

I can't believe people are complaing about GK110 performance considering the fully enabled GTX 780 Ti version was just released a couple of months ago. Nvidia appropriately also dropped the price of the GTX 780 in response to the R9 290 series.

No one has mentioned that nVidia is suppose to be planning a GTX 790 dual GK110 card as well to take back the performance crown from R9 290. This card should be out 1Q 2014 to tide over the high end until the Maxwell performance card are out in probably Q4 2014.

Good luck running high end games at that resolution on 120hz. Problem is that you are lucky to see stable 60 fps on SLI or CF let alone 120

Now, sure. But if I invest in a 4K monitor I want it to last for at least 5 years, and I rather hope that GPU tech will improve in that time.

I'd also expect games to continue to become harder and harder to run maxed at any resolution.

All aboard the treadmill!

Perhaps that is an early preview of Broadwell GT4? Double the performance of a GT 640 would put it fairly close to 765M territory.

(Note, I am mostly joking here. But we really have no idea at all what is in that thing!)

The MSI reps must have been sweating bullets with Linus just flopping it up and down with one hand.

Consoles are PC's now so they wont be like the old ports, they will scale better.

same hardware, different software...

they still need to do a lot of work,
windows games don't simply run on linux or mac os without additional work, and they normally don't perform the same when ported,

now the consoles are even harder I think because of the fixed platform aspects and higher level of optimization for that specific hardware...

the old consoles were using different CPUs but at the same time, they were so underpowered compared to a 2009 and higher PCs...

My 2006 rig had more power than both consoles...it was just blatantly obvious in 2009...funny thing though...my 2014 rig(an upgraded 2008 PC) has a hell of lot more power than any of the consoles...so this gap starts even wider...it's already blatantly obvious...I hate to see in 2016-17 :\

This GPU is old by any standards..

So when and where is its replacement? I thought 20nm was due this year?

Prices are insane for GPU tech this old..

Sods law says that soon as i buy 2x 780ti's something new comes out which makes the £1000 SLI look slow.

What are you talking about? GK110@GeForce is less than one year old. GK110@affordable GeForce is even less old. So where is the problem? Add 2-2.5 years to the release date of Titan and you have your answer.

Nvidias record margins says that i am right.

GPU's have never been this expensive.

I had the fastest card on the planet for £345 which was a 4870X2 Dual GPU card. Id need £800-£900 today for the same card with todays prices.

If the 780ti had launched about 9 months ago then it would be less of an issue.

Price =/= margin just to clarify. If someone sold a product that cost them $10,000 to make for $10,000 there's no margin but still a high price.

Not saying that nVidia isn't making a lot of money but without knowing the exact costs per unit with regards to their current crop of cards one can only really speculate how expensive it is for them. For instance a full GK110 (Ti) might require a lot of wafers just to produce a small handful that meet their requirements, though the wafer can likely be broken down for other cards as well sometimes the high cost of a card is just related to high cost of production.

That being said with what you're looking for in a card, to max every single setting and run it beyond 60 fps in every single new game, you're on the bleeding edge of GPUs. The bleeding edge not to be confused with the cutting edge, you're positioning yourself in a spot where the cost doesn't matter as long as you get the absolute strongest card(s) on the market, but with how the industry has grown considerably in the past few years you're going to be paying quite the premium for it.

The cutting edge would be something more akin to the 770 where the price isn't too unreasonable but you still get a very good card out of it that can max out most settings with most games and still get great framerates. Don't complain about pricing (especially relative to other products) if you always want the best out there, the way nVidia and AMD have been playing lately you'll be paying more and more as time goes on as they'll sell a selectively binned card just to claim the performance title.

The growth of PC gaming and the growing number of devs and engines out there capable of stressing video cards is also another reason why you have to pay more for the best card on the market now compared to a few years ago, also all the cool new stuff the companies are developing from Mantle to Shadowplay and G-Sync.

Poor people problems, bought 690 then found out SLI still sucks compared to a singel card, so onwards to TITAN. Then 780 TI came out, i had 2 choises custom mod the pcb on the Heavyweight TITAN and move the computer into a freezer to outperform the light heavyweight 780 TI or upgrade for better air performance. I choose the last. Total cost around 3000USD.

Do what I do. I use a 22" 1680x1050 67Htz LCD monitor with 4xAA for all games and they look fantastic. Hell, even 2 GTX 460 1GB will run Battlefield 4 maxxed out with 4xAA at this resolution at over 60 fps. 1920x1080 makes sense and a 27" 1920x1080 monitor only costs around $250. 2560X1440 and up is a waste of money and your games will run like sh*t even if you have 290X XFire or 780 Ti SLI.

I think we are going to see new high end graphics from Nvidia close to summer, probably June, so at least 5-6 months further away.

I do hope in the meantime we see more price drops, so I can purchase a GTX 760 for $150

Good luck with that. Only if you're trying to get a standard PCB.
