Well, lucky to all you people.
My company doesn't pay for any holiday parties. Not sure what you want me to do about it, lol.
And their spouses. The shrimp were like 5" long last year, which made it very difficult, because you didn't want to double-dip into the cocktail sauce. /firstworldproblemsnever had one, the medical industry is too broke to throw parties. at least thats what they tell us while the admins are off at some fancy 5 star hotel.
When you work for a large publicly held company, there are no free hand outs.
All and any extra money goes to shareholders. There isn't room in the budget for "holiday party".
Did people get drunk and trash the place?
Or was it just really lame?
No. In years past the party cost $20 per head, but this year we have a new party committee and they have screwed it up in every decision.
First they decided to hold it on a work night, from 6-10pm. Our last shift (with about 1/3 of our employees) does not end until 9:30pm.
Next decided to have it at a local hotel with a catered sit down dinner at 7, before second shift (with another 1/3 of our employees) ends at 7:30. They can not give you a discount if you won't be able to make dinner.
Finally, because we have a very small budget for the holiday party, they decided to charge $180 per person for this party.
They have been pushing tickets for this since Thanksgiving, and the party is tonight. Out of the 1300 employees we have they have so far sold 20 tickets.
My wife and I are planning a Christmas party at our house for approximately 30 of our closest friends.
Here is my post about that party:
The entire thing was a disaster, they went massively over budget, and almost no one showed, most of the committee that put it on did not even show (and they were given paid leave to go!).
Once a month our dept head buys us coffee and breakfastwat?
Sounds like you work for a terrible company. Not only do we get a paid for holiday party, they have a quarterly meeting with breakfast at some nice place.

is it boring or just inconvenient?
Damn, you are Grumpy Cat.

WOW! People that stupid (referring to the people planning it) should be fired on principle alone for that fiasco.
Yeah, you mad. So mad. Is it maybe because your intelligence level is tipping on the lower end of average?
So mad.
reading all ATOT's horror stories, free BJ's during work hours doesn't seem so bad anymore.
Meh, I just don't care for them. If it comes to spending time with family/friends or at a corporate holiday event on a Saturday night, I'll pick family/friends every time.
I never had a holiday party on a weekend.
