Where oh where did all the 790GX boards go?

I was looking for the Foxconn A7DN-S today... no one has it in stock (I checked about 30 vendors, most Foxconn authorized retailers don't even have it on their websites anymore!). In fact it dropped from Newegg's website completely saying it's a "Deactivated" item.

Gigabyte's board... fairly hard to find too. Out of stock most everywhere.

MSI's board... OOS at ZZF (only place I've seen that carries it).

The two that I can find in stock are the Asus M37N8-T and the Biostar board. The Biostar board is significantly cheaper, but at the cost of only 64MB DDR2 sideport. The Asus board is much nicer, but significantly MORE expensive at around $150+. The Foxconn is the best of all worlds... price, performance and features... but what gives? Where'd all the 790GX boards go?

I would assume that they haven't even hit the stores yet. Based on what happened with the P45 chipset boards, it's not surprising to see that ASUS and Biostar were first to the market. Little impatient, aren't we ?

Actually no, the Foxconn board was in stock at Newegg a couple weeks ago, and as far as I know the MSI board was in stock at ZZF last week. The Gigabyte board was also in stock at Newegg a couple weeks ago.

This is surprising, since Foxconn advertised the A7DN-S as the "First 790GX board brought to market" (they were showing up Asus to that fact).

Maybe the first batch sold out and more are on the way? Slight revisions to some boards coming? Newegg deactivates and reactivates items all the time, though.

I find it curious as well...

Many review sites announced the release of the
790GX/FX SB750 boards and did quick preliminary
reviews promissing followups, etc...

Boards showed up in-stock at several etailers and
then, just like closing a door, NOTHING... :frown:

Even the AnandTech review just sort of went south
without any of the promissed followup...

It's like the boards were just a dream and nobody
(reviewers/etailers) care to even mention them...

What's the deal here...?

If you had read my post sooner, you might have gotten it before it went out of stock again (they only had 1) .

True. Whatever happened to that review?

G35 didn't put up numbers good enough, so 690G/7150 wasn't shown. And now G45 isn't putting up numbers good enough, so 780G/790GX won't be shown.

When Intel drivers and the software used to bench has finally been patched so Intel looks better, only then might we see a real roundup/review. Just the way it is now...didn't use to be that way, but, it is now.

Wow, that's pretty sinister. Holding reviews, unless Intel shows up on top. That should be illegal.

Well, let me correct what I said earlier. 690G was shown, but it didn't have a range of CPU's so we could see the performance ranges. 7150 to my knowledge has never been shown. G965 nor G35 have never been shown in any in depth review here against any AMD offerings - and by in depth I again mean different CPU's for each board.

G45 review is no where to be seen, even though there are tons of boards available retail. Ditto 780G and 790GX.

Given that 90% of the PC market is integrated video boards, I cannot help but think AnandTech would be helping the tech community out just a little bit if they did a review with a breadth of CPU's in 690G, 6150, 7150, 780G, 790GX, 965G, G35, and G45 boards.

This would no doubt be a lot of benchmarking, and a huge review. However, it would give us all a sense of where all these chipsets stand against one another so as to at least make informed buying decisions....which, is the whole purpose of sites like AnandTech and some of the major core values AnandTech was founded on (for those of you who remember the beginning).

All this requires is one retail board from each chipset family, a bunch of processors, and time. Can't be that hard I'd think....
