Where to buy a 100% genuine xbox 360 usb pc gaming receiver?

I'm having trouble finding a place that I trust that sells them. I see plenty of ones on eBay and Amazon that advertise "genuine" but then I read the description and they'll describe some backdoor way to install the drivers (instant red flag) or something else will make it very suspicious. I check the feedback and don't see complaints but I'm guessing the buyers simply don't know better

On a related note, if you can convince me that a particular knock off is better than the official one, I'll hear you out (I've heard some complaints that MS ones die out quickly or are USB power hungry). I do need it to work for 4 controllers simultaneously

They also come with the PC "version" of the wireless gamepad. My first receiver stopped working (I bought one as standalone) and I couldn't find a new one, anywhere. Read somewhere that the original wireless gamepads labelled as "for Windows" versions come with the receiver included. I got a new "PC" version and got my receiver that way.

My original died after about a year ( MS one that came individually packaged). It just quit working one day, no light, not recognized on USB etc.

I have a "fake" one now, other than the PITA to load the drivers, it has been working fine for the past couple years.

However, it is not automatically setup when plugged in; just follow the 'find drivers' wizard, and then choose 'select from a list', and down on the list is something like Microsoft Common Controller for Xbox 360... select that, and it works perfectly. Have to do this every time I plug it in, but the unit only cost me like $9; looked at it and don't see a brand name though.

I had a proper wireless xbox-pc controller, had nothing but issues with it. Plugged in an old wired 360 controller and haven't had a single problem after the 3 or 4 seconds it took to recognise it and install the drivers.

I got mine from Amazon, same one that shortly linked. As an added bonus, Windows 8 recognized it without needing to load any kind of drivers. Score!

I got mine (AGPtek I think) just a few months ago and have to do the same as above. It works as advertised (using Win8) and paid about $9 as well (from New Egg).

(BTW, I tried buying the Microsoft built one, but they only sold it as a package deal with the controller (which I already had)).

I have one of the knock offs and it works fine for me. I do what JamesV described when I have to install the drivers and it's pretty easy. Sometimes when I plug it in I have to reinstall them but it doesn't take long.

Just in case anyone reads this and says "me too", there's a fix!
It's a tiny fuse inside the receiver that blows, and you just have to solder over the joints.
Mine did the same thing, I Googled the solution, and had it fixed and running again in 40 minutes.

I bought a pair of these HDE receivers on Amazon about 3 months ago and they work perfectly fine. Yeah, I had to manually select the driver when I installed it (Win7 x64), but zero problems after that.

The "official" one I bought from Amazon has worked flawlessly for 3 years. Just update the drivers as mention previously.

Everyone that had the receiver go on them, did you leave it plugged in all the time or only plugged in when you went to play a game? I'm wondering if it makes a difference in the longevity of the receiver.

Mine was plugged in all the time, then just stopped working.
