I don't know where to post this. If I post this in the wrong forum, mods, please move it.

Hi,

I was just wondering where you bought your computer tables. My budget is around 100-150 U$D.

I live here in the US and I've already checked Best Buy and Ikea. I don't like the tables there.

I just need to be long because I'm putting 2 x 24-inch monitors. I have a mid-tower PC and I don't mind placing it on or below the table. I also want the keyboard to be in level with the monitors. AFAIK, almost all comp tables has a separate layer for mouse and keyboard.

If anyone is so kind to show off their computer setup, I would really appreciate it. I really need innovative ideas for my setup.

Me and wife just moved to a bigger apartment and I decided to trash my old table and go for something creative or different.

Thank you so much.

Mine is in a "nook" in the wall which used to be a coat closet. I bought a freestanding shelving/desk unit from the container store that slid right in. It's about 50" wide and my dual 22" monitors fit comfortably.

Before then, I had a corner desk with tons of space.... *sigh* downsizing sucks....

One of mine I got from an Resale/Antique Shop and the other I found in someone's trash after a garage sale.

I dont like to buy new as it is much cheaper getting them used.

Hmm, I was going to suggest Ikea as that's where I got mine (several years ago). I suppose their products do change over time tho. Did you just look at their actual desks? The reason I ask is that Ikea also sells various table-top/legs separately so you can put together what suits you, like the Vika series.

What about Staples? If you're looking for something "slick" i've always kinda liked the metal/glass Z-Line series.

My only other comment is to rethink any temptation to go with a corner desk. Sure, it may work for you/in your space, but I had one for a bit and grew tired of it quite quickly. It was huge but always felt cramped. I find a flat/open/uncluttered workspace far more functional in the end.

Anyway, here's my current setup - nice and simple: http://img7.imageshack.us/img7/7130/desktew.jpg

@zerogear - Thanks for the link. Those are awesome tables. I just hope I could get a good deal with it. I guess I won't mind going over the budget when having those tables.

@jdkick - OMG!! awesome setup. I'm having a hard time putting my jaw back, lol. Where did you get those clamps holding your monitors? Anyway, I haven't tried staples, home depot, office depot yet. I was thinking that IKEA would be the best but I guess not.

You could check this compilation pictures of computer setups, you will own them!

Thanks. I want to clean up the wiring tho and move some of the smaller gear (router, cable modem, etc) off the desk/to a shelf. The clamps are older hydraulic monitor arms that were being disposed of at work - rescued them out of the garbage before it was too late. I like them because they are fully articulating.

Some of the setups in that compilation link are unbelievable. Wow.

Good luck on finding something that works for you.

are you handy at all with power tools?

You could spend $40 on lumber and just make a desk to fit your needs however you want. I had a need for a huge desk in my computer room and instead of trying to find some custom one off desk I just built mine. Took a few hours but works great and has room for everything, desk is about 10ft wide on the long side, and 6ft on the other side. Sort of L shaped. Plus I built mine out of 4x4's and 2x4's its so sturdy 3 people can sit on it and it won't budge.

@jdkick - I wish I could find those hydraulic monitor arms in the web. I'm really considering having those in my setup (I hope you don't mind ). I like the simplicity, yet uniqueness of your setup. I'm going to NYC tomorrow and look around for furniture shops. Thanks for the info!

@kojackson - When I was showing my friend some awesome computer desks, he told me that I can't find that in retail stores here in the US. He thinks that those are all self made. Unfortunately, I'm really not good at DIYs and since we just move at this new apartment, I don't have any workspace for making my own table. However, thanks for the info, I never knew its would only cost about $40.

I use a sliding closet door set across two 2-drawer filing cabinets. Tons of surface area, all on one level, which was very helpful when I switched to a 3-display setup (2x 22" 16:10, 1x 17" 5:4).

Try to think outside the realm of "computer desk" and a lot more options may present themselves.

I went to Ikea and picked out the galant series desk. I picked out a white table top, telescoping A-frame legs and a computer slide out drawer. Few years later I added black/brown rounded ends to my table to increase storage space on my desk. Here is the link to IKEA's galant series if you want to check out. http://www.ikea.com/us/en/cata...ies/range/10364/11717/

I suppose it depends on whether you want something unique or mass-produced?

If it's the former take some basic measurements of height (so your legs will fit underneath) and width (deep enough for the keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.) and length (long enough for the keyboard, mouse, monitor, etc.), yet small enough to fit into the physical constraints of the room it's going into. Then have a look in antique shops, 'for sale' newspapers, eBay, etc. for a second hand table, or have one built for you (expensive).

If it's the latter go for an Ikea (or similar) computer table. Just remember that it has to still fit within the constrainbts of the room, so key dimensions need to be known.
