Where to buy higher end watches

I've been considering buying a nicer watch for a few years now and I've been saving some money and think I'm just about ready to pull the trigger.

I am not talking seriously high end, but something like a nice Tag Heuer or similar. The only retail places I've seen around here are at the local malls (a nicer jewelry store, Bloomingdales, etc) and I am wondering if anyone on here has bought a nicer watch and where they went?

I am a little leery of shopping online because I don't want a fake or anything, but I would imagine there are some perfectly good online stores for things like this. Or am I better off buying retail (and probably paying more than I would from the right online store).

Honestly, I would check smaller mom and pop shops for watches like that. Sometimes you'll find a nice second hand watch that looks nearly new for half the price.

The pawn shop isn't a bad idea, if you want to hit up a mall Tourneau is your best option. Look to buy a preowned watch.

Tag makes plenty of automatics in that price range, albeit towards the higher end of that price spectrum.

Plenty of reliable retail stores online...for forums, you can try watchuseek or timezone. But first, spend some time in some B&M stores around you so you can see the watches on your wrist. Do you like a big face, a thick watch, a diver, chrono, something more traditional, etc.

I think Omega watches are nice, but all of these watches are bit excessive.

I'm leaning towards the ones in the $2-2.5k range. Any more than that seems like a lot to me.

I prefer the look of the Tags over the Bretlings.
