so with the thread about fridge preference and all the house buying/home renovating threads, i thought i'd ask the question:

--- where is a good place to buy appliances such as fridges, washers, and dryers? ---

i've heard Best Buy is good. what about HD? Lowes? (oh, here we go again) Sears?

i'm not just looking for price, but also installation and customer service.

thanks ATOT!

I've bought a number of times from Best Buy and have no complaints at all. If you wait around for their stacking sale you will get prices that almost impossible to get elsewhere. Throw in dirt cheap (if not free) delivery, reward zone points, and 0% for 18 month deals they constantly run and it's one of the best bargains out there.

Every 2-3 months they have a 5% off one, 10% off 2, 15% off 3, 20% off 4 deal that stacks to every appliance and the prices are just crazy.

One other thing about Best Buy is that they have a much more expanded catalog online than they do instore. If you have a particular model you need/want they can probably special order it and the discount pricing still applies.

We have a local chain called AppianceSmart which was basically one of those wholesalers of "slightly" damaged appiances. We got our side-by-side and frontloading washer/dryer for at least 20% less than the big chain stores. It's crazy because our Frigidaire stainless steel fridge has a small dent on the side (who would be looking there anyways with it wedged between two cabinets anyways) but that dent saved us $500!

I've done some fair amount of applicance shopping and my best experiences were with Sears. I say that based upon getting the right items delivered at the right time with the lowest price. For Sears, you can usually find a sale, price match any other store, negotiate them lower, and on top of that get 0% interest. Finally when that is all said and done if you almost make a purchase then leave Sears and come back, they'll take yet another 10% off. That said, Sears isn't that much better than other companies.

The appliances are all basically the same from store to store (there just isn't much to an appliance, usually a motor based device and an insulated shell). The base prices are all basically the same the details are only in how well you negotiate (with the exception of local Mom and Pop places which tend to have dramatically higher prices). The service is so localized that no one can tell you on an international forum which one will be better for you.

Bought all new appliances at best buy during a sale during which they offered some percentage off for energy star stuff. On top of that they had a 20 percent off deal if you bought 3 or more appliances. In the end all new stainless steel stuff cost me more than $1,000 less than every other place.

I'm a big lowes fan. 12 months no interest + 10% coupon on anything makes it gold. I just placed an order to replace the carpet in my home and saved over $450 just with the 10% coupon.

I have looked/bought from...

Lowes, HD, Bestbuy, eBay, Sears, and other internet sites.

My last 4 purchases were from sears (LG Fridge), eBay (general person stove top), and eBay (mymaytagestore.com for dishwasher and oven)

I buy from whom ever has the cheapest price. Lowes gives out 10% coupons so I look there a lot.

I bought my Whirlpool Gold side-by-side back in 2000 from Sears. I could have, and actually tried, going to their scratch & dent store here in town, but the deal I got for a new one in their regular Sears retail store was a better deal.

First, the price-matched the lowest price in town (HD), knocked off 10% of the difference, and when I used the Sears new home buyer account we got 10% off the purchase price with two years free financing. For a $1900 product we paid $1400, but the S&D store wanted $1800. This included negotiated-to-free delivery and install, too.
