Im tired of my current HP computer. I was wondering if any of you guys know of GOOD places on the net who do a GREAT job of assembling systems with premium parts and real good prices.

I know of one place like that and its www.abspc.com

Was wondering if there are ther places on the net which are reliable and have excellent prices. Thanks so much for your input. HAPPY NEW YEAR.

i have seen some random coupons for dell systems. but the directions people give on how to apply them seem real complicated IMO. i just wish i had more patience to deal with coupons.

You can try NEwegg too if you don't want any brand name but other than that, DUDE, you're getting a dell.

"Dude you still getting a dell?"

Just build your own. It's MUCH less complicated then you may think!

try dell when they have their deal-of-the-year-esque deals

or if you want a nicer and costlier pc, get a voodoo or a falcon

If you think you can build it yourself, go to newegg.com. And do your homework on parts. That way you'll get all premium parts that you hand picked. Dell will skimp on stuff and it won't be the same quality.

If you don't want to do all that work you could just get a Dell. They're probably the best deal for a premade PC.

When does dell usually have their deals of the year? They follow some pattern in terms of posting deals on their site or is it a random act? Thanks for all your input. Hope your first few hrs of the new year have been great so far.

Mwave.com sells barebone systems, they cost as much as assembling them yourself. WIth a barebone system all you have to install are you hard drive/cd-rw/dvd drives and AGP videocard/sound card. Just go and custom a configure one and order a good hard drive/dvd drive from dell.com for a cheap system.

Well, judging from your posts, may I safely assume that you don't have the time, patience nor energy to assemble your own system? This would be the route that would be the cheapest and would bring the most personal satisfaction. But I'm gonna assume you've already crossed that off your list, as you asked for a site that sold pre-assembled systems. So I would probably have to recommend getting a Dell, as they do have the best OEM computers IMHO and their customer service is one of the best in the market.

Haha, if i knew what is wrong with that set up, i would of done something about it by now. This computer just doesnt want to work. It slows down all the time, hangs up here and there. Random acts of terror that i just CANT stand anymore. I did make an attempt at video card upgrade. Installed a 9700 on it, and it worked horribly. I did 3DMark benchmark tests, was getting some pathetic numbers. At that point it really made me angry. So i just returned the vid card because i was getting no satisfaction from the whole set up. Want to get rid of it and either assemble something my self or find a good place which does good job of putting machines together.

I work at a best buy location, but not directly for best buy. I work as a rep there. I know the manager pretty well and i got this PC quite a while ago for ONLY $800 with 3 year warranty included. At the time it was a GREAT deal considering for a regular customer this PC would cost 1299 plus 200 for 3 year warranty. But over time i realized what sort of hole i got my self into with this HP. Have had this PC for about 6-8 monhts im guessing. So anyone know how much i can sell this HP for?

All you need is a case, motherboard, video card and cpu, and power supply and you can probably reuse everything else. You could get something nice for about $650. Your stability problems is probably from the power supply.

Yeah, that probably sounds like the best option for me. What would i do with the leftover MOBO and Chip? Is there a market for such parts?

Ebay the leftovers but seriously you should be just fine with that computer. Your video card is the bottleneck, put a geforce 3 or 4 in it and you will see a nice improvement.

home computer - dell or gateway

business workstation - dell or compaq deskpro

have setup hundreds of dells, a handful of gateways, and about 40 compaq deskpros so far in my career

avoid 'home' hp computers, the cases are a freakin nightmare
