flushing isn't that bad. If you want dirty, just head over to chinatown in manhattan. Thats dirty. That being said, I live in Bayside. Its about 25 minutes away by bus to roosevelt and main (thats where the 7 stop is). if you take the LIRR its even faster (10 min).

Anyway what kind of jobs are there in located in flushing? From your avatar, I'm guessing your gonna work for one of the doctors there.

Pfft! You've obviously never been to any part of the Bronx. It's full of the aforementioned people and none of them speak English. Africa and South America/PR/SD illegals FTL~!

I can only testify that I've passed through the Bronx on my way out of NYC. NO way I'd stay around to get capped.

Flushing is an awful place to live. I am moving out this year. Don't come here. We don't need more people.

I lived here since 1984..

Flushing at 1984 was not crowded and quite clean..

Yes, its a poop hole like everyone described..

Im about 20min bus ride from main st flushing... off sanford ave..

There are a lot of new developments in flushing.. it will get more crowded.. prices are high.. Have you consider forest hills ? E/F train to the city..

I might live here but i spend most of my time out on the island or westchester... Most of the people are rude, they'll shove you out of the way on the train, garbage everywhere..

that big parking lot on union st, thats going away in a year or 2 for new development.. it'll be harder to park soon..

Flushing has the worst drivers in the country. You think NJ drivers are bad, well they are decent compared to those in Flushing. Damn idiots can not drive for the life of them!

This thread reminds me of NYC - ah the memories. I remember places in Queens like Flushing, Corona, Maspeth, Elmhurst and others. There are lots of Asians there but I do not mind - technically, I'm a Asian myself (Indian). The great thing about NYC is the ability to walk anywhere and go anywhere - freedom. You don't really need a car there and public transportation and the ability to walk is so great. Down here in the South, things are a bit different.

the place is a dump. aim for a nice area where you can transfer trains. it's just a few steps across the platform which is far better than few steps in the craphole you would live in. I'm asian and i'm right at home with any bum and thugs in flushing. I hate it because of the congestion though. I usually only go like 11 pm at night.

Pfft! I lived in the Bronx for a year. There are some very nice areas of the Bronx, obviously Hunts Point and Grand Concourse are not nice, but there are nice areas. Ever hear of Riverdale?

Yep, I know Riverdale quite well. I used to hang out at The Terminal bar back in the day...don't know if it's still there or not. I have friends there now; I see them once every couple of years when I go back to the Bronx to see what little family I still have there.

Good luck finding any apartment in Riverdale for under $2K/month. And to GET to Riverdale you have to go thru all the NYC traffic and most of the crappy hoods.

For the same money, you'd be better off going up the line into Westchester.

Morris Park/upper Pelham parkway used to be nice. All the trash from Fordham road moved up there years ago and now it's trash too.

Pelham Manor is hideously expensive and it's now basically a "defended fort." It's a hyper-expensive, exclusive development surrounded by trashy neighborhoods. Why would anyone pay $2M for a house THERE when they could live out on the Island/up the line? 99% of the Bronx is Section 8 slumville. It's sad, really; it used to be the greatest borough...up until the early 70's when it started going to shitt.

Good old David Dinkins...remember him? Blame him for the crack proliferation and welfare free ride that began in the 80's. There is SO MUCH more to this great country than New York City. Hell, upstate NY is BEAUTIFUL. There are good jobs everywhere (mostly). NY was played out years ago when I left.

Sorry OP...I got OT...in OT.

Actually, I used to live right off Pelham Parkway, near White Plains Road. It's not as bad as you make it out to be. This is 11 years ago though, it may have changed.

Hahah! And you had the Triple XXX movie theater right there too! See? I TOLD YOU I know the Bronx.

It wasn't that bad 11 years ago, but the change had begun already. Basically, right around 1991-92 is when the change began. For some reason, the people that had lived there for generations started moving out. Simultaneously, the Fordham road/south Bronx crowd that had been saving their welfare monies had saved up enough for mass exodus east, up Pelham Parkway to the neighborhoods previously occupied primarily by Jewish and Italian families for the past 100 or so years.

And the rest is just sad history.

Well, to be exact I lived on Bogart Ave. between Pelham and Lydig. I don't remember a XXX theater, but then again, I wouldn't. I do remember a really nice pool hall called Park Billiards on White Plains Road, dunno if it's still around, it was kind of a mofioso and mofioso wannabe hangout. There were some nice places around then. But yeah, the neighborhood was primarily Italians and Jews.

15 years in battery park city after moving from Long island.
My goal was to find a place thats near my work in the city, I found the downtown to be lovely until 9/11, but still overall a nice place to live.

Its very safe and quieter than Long Island at nights and on weekends.

How about Jackson Heights? It's on the 7 and an express stop on the E and F. It's also about halfway to NYC from Flushing.

There are some really nice apartments there. You will have to get used to the smell of curry though.

Depending on where you work, I assume Manhattan, you may want to consider looking just over the border in Nassau County. If you get someplace near the Long Island Rail Road and you work near Penn Station you may get to work faster on the RailRoad than on the 7 train.

this texan is moving out to flushing in june. prob gonna need a palce near the 7 train as my work is close to the main/flushingst stop. any one been there? where are the affordable, good places to live? and where should i eat?

You're going to get eaten alive in Queens.

I would advise you to live further out East, maybe in Nassau county somewhere. The LIRR has multiple east west routes cutting through Queens. Or you can drive in if the place you work at has parking for you.
