I have a problem with an Asus A8N-SLI. Mobo would go into boot loops etc. couldn't find drives, now it wont even POST. Should I RMA this with the vendor, ChiefValue or directly with Asus?

Have you plug some speakers into the green jack to see what the post error messages are? It will annouce "System failed CPU test" or "System failed VGA test" etc...

I would hate to see you RMA the board if something else is your problem.

i shipped my board out to ASUS today. only thing i dont like about it is that it will take them 10 business days upon recieving my board (its like i could order another board, but im short on cash). i had a couple of friends look at it, but still a no go. problem was that after pressing the power button, everything would turn off less than a second later. customer support said its either 3 things: psu -> nope, cpu -> not really, mobo -> bingo. anyways i was somewat dissapointed calling ASUS tech support at first because they were telling me to try things that i knew wasnt the source of the problem. i hope my board will work or else ill just have to move on...

I think the dealer gives you better support if you can return to them. The dealer usually offers that for 1 year only. After that, you have no choice but ASUS.

The dealer may just give you a new box. For ASUS, you should only return the motherboard without the accessories and even the box I think. They will tell you what you are supposed to do.

Hi GD, BTW this is the second rig I was talking about putting together.

No I haven't tried that. For a second I was wondering what you meant by green jack. LOL I do have the case speaker plugged in and it doesn't beep or anything. This thing has given me a real PITA in past 24 hrs. I put it together and immediately had probs. It wouldn't let me boot from the CD drive so I couldn't install windows. I messed around with the boot priority list and got it to work, something I didn't have to do with the other A8N I have. Then when I installed windows, it locked up and went into some boot loops, once I got that fixed, I noticed that it had named one of the CDs to be the C drive and the HD was G. Before I could get that straightened out, it stopped recognizing the HD. Then it just stopped POSTing altogether. You turn it on, get the power led, the HD led flashes for a few seconds and then nothing. It just sits there, no beep, nothing on the monitor, nothing else. I tried swaping the PSU, that didn't work. I figured its not the HD or the Video card because it should still give me that POST beep even if they the problem.

Edit, don't get me wrong, if anybody has any suggestions, please speak up. its just that in my experience that if you can't get it to POST to the point that you can go into BIOS that its either the PSU or the Mobo. I've never tried this before but even if you didn't have any mem or a cpu, you should still get an visual error message on the monitor, right?
