So........ as usual, I am from half a globe away; while I am very familiar with the west coast of the US, I am pretty much a blur when it comes to the east coast. Last time I was in NY was 12 years ago and I am planning a one week vacay there around the July the 4th week on 2018. Yes, it's far out but there's a reason for that.

Will be travelling with the gf and am looking for a safe place to stay. Generally, I would think that it's safe everywhere on the island of manhattan but it's good to do my due diligence. I have my eyes set on this hotel:

http://www.marriott.com/hotels/travel/nycmh-courtyard-new-york-manhattan-upper-east-side/

If I book it really early like a year early, it's about 150usd after taxes and I think it's a pretty good deal within the island but it's pretty up north on the 92nd street. Well, from the movies and what not, ( I am not judging ), it's borderline "unsafe" to be so up north to that side of the island. I might be wrong but would like to get some feedback from folks who are familiar with the area..

You'll be fine at 92nd st, though you're not gonna be able to walk to much from the hotel

I'm no NYC expert, but of the times that I've stayed there I liked the Mansfield Hotel the most. A block and a half from Broadway, but away from the noise/crowds. Cheap. Fancy enough. Great service. Close enough to the subway to get anywhere else fast. Across the street from db Bistro Moderne for their famed burger which is pretty tasty:

The drawback, like many NYC hotels, is that the room is small.

As for safety in that area I have no clue. But I did not feel unsafe.

That Marriott is right across the street of the Projects(Section 8 housing). Would highly recommend somewhere downtown since most of the attractions are down there and express trains from downtown to midtown takes about 15 minutes or less.

Am actually planning to get a 5 day metro pass so we'll be commuting alot to downtown. I suppose that would work?

Thanks for the feedback. The Mansfield actually looks pretty good. And the price too. Will put it in the priority list.

Take it that the concern would be the noise? Hmmmm..okie. I suppose the housing area would be done a year from now? Would love to stay downtown but it's almost double the price.....

For a second, I thought you were being funny or something. The Projects(Section 8) are low-income housing...It's not actually a project that's going on
