At work. To solve a problem I had I wanted to ask some people for advice, and therefor logged on to the text-based game Genocide. They were discussing what might have happened that the first plane hit the WTC, and whether it was an accident or not. Then suddenly someone said 'HOLY SH*T! Another plane hit the second tower!', and we all knew it was no accident. I then immediately informed my boss and the Sales department what happened, and that our US office would be unreachable for most of the day. I returned to my PC and saw a plane had hit the pentagon, and after that the US media got in a frenzy and reported explosions all-over the place around the Whitehouse. As my youngest sister at that time worked in a building between the Pentagon and the Whitehouse I phoned my mother to tell her to keep trying to contact her, and then told my boss I was going home. While on the way home I received a call from my mother that my sister was ok.

I was sleeping and heard my cell phone ringing, I was dead tired from the night before and I put it on silent. Woke up about 10 minutes later and checked it to notice 15 missed calls. Called my friend back and she told me about a plane hitting the WTC while I was still laying in bed. Of course I didn't believe her at first then turned on NBC just as the second plane hit the tower. Then watched the towers collapse. Oh how surreal it was. I don't think I turned off my television for the next couple of days. That day changed my life.

Chemistry class, our teacher was informed by someone of what had happened but didn't turn on the in class TV. It wasn't until my next class that I saw it on TV. Rest of the day our teachers all had the TVs on, and my history professor had it on for the rest of the school year basically and had in class discussions about what happened, and what might happen in the future. She was a pretty cool teacher.

I was sleeping. One of my uncle called me up and told me that a plane hit WTC and I thought that it was probably a small plane (Cessna or something) and asked him what was so special about it. Then he told me to turn the TV on and for a second, I thought that it was some sort of movie.

Needless to say, i was glued to the TV for the next couple of hours and then went to college for my only class that day. I dont think that many people knew at college at the time about what had happened though.

I was home that morning with my daughter (woulda gone to the school and got her if she hadn't been home that day).

I was so freaked out, watching it on TV. So unsure whether things were gonna happen all over the country (or world).

Those people who ran to the buildings to help are such heros.

I was on the west coast so I was still sleeping. My mom called me and said "turn on the TV, New York and the Pentagon are under attack." I was all groggy from sleeping, but that last part woke me up in a hurry. I had a night class that night and went to it but nothing got done. The professor tried to keep teaching but no one wanted to listen, they just wanted to talk about what was going on. Later that night I took a drive just to get away from the news and it was so weird driving by the airport and having it be totally silent.

I was in Kuwait supporting Operation Southern Watch. Yeah, things got much more fun after that. First time I felt safer being in the Middle East than being in the U.S. I had no fear that anything was going to happen to us, but was terrified something might happen to my family and friends. Strange indeed.

At work. One of my co-workers said a plane had hit the tower. Not too long after I had a class at my community college so my friend came and picked me up and we went to the college, they had the news on in the TVs in the hall.

home getting ready to leave for college for the first time. Turned on the TV to watch MTV/ VH1 and saw what I thought was a movie. After 20 minutes, realized it wasnt a movie.

I was onboard USS Inchon (MCS-12) at the time. I walked in my shop, forward IC, and everyone was watching the TV. They showed the first tower on fire, and I asked what movie they were watching. Just as my LPO said that it was the news, the second plane hit.

It was early in AZ and I was driving into work. I heard a brief mention of a plane (they said a small one) hitting the WTC on the radio. When I got to work I turned on the TV to see if there was anything on about it and we saw the 2nd plane hit 30 sec later. The whole place was silent except for 1 customer who kind of screamed and ran out the door. Found out later his wife had gone to NY for a meeting in the WTC that morning. He wasn't aware at the time but her mtg had been pushed back to the afternoon.

I was in school, a friend said something about it because he saw it online... the day basically ended right there.

to the OP, what is interesting about events like these is that many people claim to 'remember' seeing them first-hand. They will say, "Oh, I was walking down the street and saw it on TV in the window." Often, however, the reality is that they didn't see it at all. Instead their memories get confused, and they believe the witnessed something first-hand, when in fact they didn't at all. A few studies have been conducted on this topic, the most frequently-used event was the Challenger explosion.

Just thought you might find that interesting

In bed, sleeping, my day off work. I didn't know about it until after it all happened.

In homeschooling with my bro. My dad called from the house he was painting. He was watching the TV and saw the news. We switched from the DVD player to the TV and saw. It didn't particularly phase me then, but my mom was hysterical.

I was leaving for work when one of my friends called me to let me know. Watched the TV at home for a bit before going into work. Being a state police HQ the place was on serious lockdown by the time I got there. Once I managed to get past the sworns we went into one of the offices with a TV and watched the rest.

Later in the morning the Governor made the decision to evacuate all state offices of non-essential personnel so I went over to a friend's house.

I was 19, and I was working that afternoon at Giant (a grocery store). It was a boring slow day, then all of a sudden, it got extremely busy. The store was packed with people buying water, milk, bread, canned foods, etc. I asked someone what had happened, and they told me about the towers. I think I went home early that day and I was glued to the tv for the next couple months.

On the couch sleeping, then I got a call from the family back in Morocco asking if I was OK. Turned the TV on and told them... nahh ... its just a fire. Few minutes later the building collapsed and I did not believe my eyes.

i was at school. 5th grade at the time. i remember that we'd just entered the class and begun to sit down and get ready, when the principal announced over the PA system the the world trade center had been hit by a plane. being a 5th grade kid who had never been to NY, i had no idea what the WTC was. through out the day, many parents came and took their children home. i came home and we sat glued to the TV for the next couple of hours following the news.
