where would you build a zombie survival compound?

let's say you had a shitton of money and had knowledge that there would be a world-wide epidemic outbreak in the next decade... no one believes you, but you've got the time/resources to prepare for yourself.

where would you build your compound?

I keep thinking desert since you'd be well out of the way of populated areas and have minimal risk of either the undead or living survivors coming across you, significantly lower risk of being exposed to a natural disaster that could wreck your structure (ie: hurricane, earthquake, blizzard), you'd have sunlight for solar cells, and you'd be able to grow food year-round, but water access would likely be a major issue... the best green house in the world won't do you much food if everything (including yourself) is dying from dehydration.

Well, you need food, water, ect. to wait out the storm, I would say some place up in idaho, perhaps even the grand tetons in Wyoming. Either way, secluded but survivable is the goal. (BTW how long can zombies survive for?)

A small Island in a clean, freshwater lake or river. Zombies can't swim, but I'd still have access to the mainland if I needed it.

Ohio class nuclear submarine.

You have to consider that once TSHTF you will have to worry about other hostile humans as much as zombies. This is why holding up in a Costco or Walmart won't work. One guy with a tank can roll through your Costco, take your food and the zombies follow behind and you're screwed.

Gov't auctions decommissioned silos sometimes. You can't get into them w/o a nuke and you can't smoke em out if set up right. Plus they are hidden like a mofo rurally.

Course I'd store up foods, hydrogen for fuel, a million gallons of water ... basically Vaultech.

hmm.

you need access to fresh food, water, and perhaps livestock. You would also want a area that is not heavely populated.

I would think Montana or North Dokota would be ok. Maybe Alaska or parts of Canada.

A oil rig would be great if you had enough food and teh zombies had a short life.

A island? while zombies can't swim they don't need to breath. so there is a chance of one walking to the island (low chance i know).

heh i can't remember what World War Z (or was it the other one he did) that list the best places to hold up.

ohhh! what about a nuclear missile silo or where they are in that mountian that is locked up in case of a war?

you'd be safe as hell in a silo, but how would you grow enough food to survive + ensure uninterrupted power to keep the air pumping?

We have a 100x100 foot 10 foot deep pond that we dug on our property. I could convert that to an underground shelter. Put up a huge concrete wall around the whole thing with gun turrets. land mines and the whole shabang. Then I could just armor up the tractor for missions into town for supplies.

Toyota cold testing plant.

Very cold, zombies would probably freeze to (second) death. There's tons of runaway priuses running around, and it's only a few km from where I live. Just need to put some money into very thick concrete walls, with electrified barb wire on the outside part.

Oops, someone already built that there.

This place is on the top of a plateau, almost sheer drops all around. Craploads of guns, ammo, cars, fuel, food, and water make it a perfect place. All it needs is a drawbridge, but with the supplies there it wouldn't be hard to make one. :awe:

I have 8 months of dehydrated foods for 5, just add water. Dude you're a billionaire. Buy 100 years of the stuff. Water is the real killer. Needs to remain potable, free from radiation and germs and have a lot of it.

Yeah, Cheyenne Mountain would be a good place to stay. Lock the giant blast doors, stay inside for maybe 5 years. Check what is outside on cameras.

Water would not be a problem as there is a lake inside the mountain with pure water filtered through rock. You would just need to worry about food.

I'd travel to Atlantis hotel in Paradise Island, Bahamas and hunker down for a while before making it my own. Only problem is the Bahamas is an extremist in fire arms prevention. 10 years for the gun, 5 years each bullet.

Doesnt Cheyenne mountain have a reactor or two? With unlimited power you have unlimited food.
