Where'd my drives go?

There I was tooling along, continuing to install programs on my daughters computer when, all of a sudden, my cdroms disappeared from windows. I had just installed win xp on an older Dell PII 333 and was finishing up adding programs. A "systems" check shows both of the roms (a 36x Creative and a Plextor CDrw scsi) with yellow markers stating that registry data for them is corrupted. Uninstalling what I had just put in (CloneCD) didn't help. Neither did uninstalling the drives and controllers and rebooting, allowing windows to reinstall them. Anyone with any ideas what happened or, better yet, how to retreive the drives?

Funnily enough same thing happened to me just a few days ago.

No idea what the problem was. the last thing I'd installed was Nero (could it be related to CDR software???) but I didnt notice the problem immediately as I didnt try to access any CDROM/RW drives for some time after i installed.

My "cure" was to restore a previous registry backup (thankfully I have a program called WinrescueXP - highly recommended).

Incidentally I tried XP's own sytem restore which didnt work at all.:frown:

I cannot begin to express the absolute wonder I have that someone should have problem solved this out like this. Bravo.......
