So they are following up "Metro" (Windows Phone) with "Mosh"?

Weird to think that MS' failed phone (Kin) has led to a new UI feature for Windows 8.
The Kin was actually a pretty nice phone. The long delays, the upcoming WP7 platform, and Verizon's data plan killed it long before it was released.

Weird to think that MS' failed phone (Kin) has led to a new UI feature for Windows 8.

The base UI for Metro was actually featured first on the Zune HD. The Kin was like a super-featurephone plus Zune. And it was a sinful bastard-child of WP7 that should have never seen the light of day.

Metro is an awesome UI, at least, from my experience with Zune HD (which is a less-featured version of Metro, wasn't even called Metro at the time, not that I'm aware). Microsoft clearly enjoyed the experience with Nvidia and the Tegra platform found in the Zune, because they basically made that type of hardware (though immensely upgraded architecture in Cortex A9) required for the first round of Zune Pho... WP7 devices.

I haven't had a chance to use a new Windows phone, but I wouldn't mind trying. The community was great when I was modding my Samsung Omnia (then the Droid came out and rocked my world). But I'd like to give WP7 some more time anyhow, that and it doesn't even matter until Verizon gets any of the phones. No news on that as of yet, iirc. But more time in general, so that the marketplace can develop.
I wouldn't mind a slightly more locked down experience, if it meant things are perfect from the get-go. Then again, I do want to mod them after some time... I'll always find things I want to fix. Awesome thing about Android, most things are fixed by the community before you find the problems to begin with. Though there's issues between the community and the phone manufacturers... and I'm getting a little worried about hackability of the better phones coming out for Verizon (no 4G Evo clone for me... I want dual-core Cortex A9 if I'm upgrading from my Droid).
Android as a platform is great, the manufacturers have abused it and completely ruined the experience (though Google did allow it to happen obviously, so some blame goes to them too). And the future potential for Android is only looking more amazing, that is, again, if you ignore the previously described issue. Ice Cream should be a treat (better parts of Honeycomb, wrap it into the phone segment of Android), and I can only imagine the platform getting even more impressive as hardware moves forward rapidly and Google finally shows they understand lessons learned - practice a little control over hardware segmentation for development purposes, and maybe encourage unlocked bootloaders for official "Google Experience" branding? hint hint, wink wink? Please?

I own a Kin One, owned the original Zune (stylish doodoo brown/green), Zune HD, and now own a Windows Phone (Dell Venue Pro).

The Metro base came from the HD (seen mostly in the styling of the Music + Videos app), but the tile format came from the Kin/Project Pink. Works fairly smoothly on the Windows Phone 7 OS. My favorite UI out of all the major phone OSes, including iPhone and Android.

Well tile-format is demo'd sort-of in the sidebar on the Zune HD, but obviously took that and ran with it to an entirely new level for WP7. And they had already shown the UI as WP7 before ever announcing the Kin, iirc, which made the whole thing even more confusing considering the first released had not been the first thing shown, but had similarities.
