At this point its time to NOT pay an attorney. They are going to play "make money off of fees" at you. Vampires have no one's interest in mind but their own billable hours.

Of course he didn't contact a blood sucker and when he realizes how much its going to cost him in fees he'll back down.

Again, do NOT pay for your own defense; you just need to stand your ground.

Sorry guys nothing new to report today. I was sick on Sunday so didn't have a chance to post anything. I called my attorney to see if he had made contact with the LL's attorney and he was in a closing all day. Usually he doesn't answer the phone when he's in court or has a closing. I'll try again tomorrow.

ok so whats the deal now? the check cleared your account but the land lord is still stating he did not get rent for March and is now demanding to be paid?

Update 4/3

This is the email I received from the LL today

I have been working with the first precinct in trying to recover the funds from march paycheck. Detective xxx has left you a message and asked that you call him back @ xxx. The oil check was sent yesterday.

Additionally I do not see anywhere in our contract that states you can place money in an escrow account if minor repairs that were existing when you rented the home are not fixed. It states you took the home as is and I have the right to fix damages or void the lease agreement.

I will fix the pool situation if you do not plan on opening it this year. Additionally I will seed the lawn when the weather gets warmer as it is a waste to do now with these cold temperatures. I do not have the funds to put a new window in at the current time.

This is not an issue as our contract states you inspected the home and rented it as is.

This. OP, you have an attorney. You have representation. Let him handle it and play the games. You should be able to sit back and get updates. Otherwise just lawnchair/popcorn/beer the situation.

I got in a bind once and I was constantly worried about it. My lawyer repeatedly told me this. "I am representing you. You don't need to do ANYTHING. I am you in this situation. Let me handle it."

He all but told me to chill the fuck out and let him do his job.

While I wouldn't respond to the contents I'd probably remind him to deal with your atty and provide the contact info again.

A very telling statement, sounds to me that this landlord is living on the edge. A new roof, maybe, but a window?

Agreed, which is making me more so suspicious that he and his wife are trying to pull a fast one with the rent check. I don't know what your lease says but I would ask your attorney if what the LL says is legal in your state.

I wouldn't bother asking the attorney anything. Just forward him the info. As a lot of other people have said, this is why you're paying him. It's not your problem, it's nothing to stress over, so let him handle the legality of everything and you go on living your life.
