I am in a market for a nice LCD for desktop use. Only rare gaming, but mainly for internet/general use.

what is the best deal and monitor combination now?, would appreciate recommendations.

I just picked up the NEC 1550v (ZDnet editors choice winner) for 326$ at Buy.com after the 10% discount for using Discover card and free shipping. I placed my order on monday morning and had it 7:30am wednesday morning, the only complaint was 1 dead pixel in the lower left quadrant but I'm told that is common.

I picked up the Samsung 151s for a system I'm building (mainly internet, word processing use for my Aunt) because it was the #1 Editor Choice at CNET & after reading the many positive user testimonials. Pretty slick looking LCD! The viewing angle is excellent but for First Person shooters, I rate it just 'okay'. CRTs are still the best, but I was still able to log in 2hrs of CS without much complaint My response time is 30ms so ghosting is not really that pronounced with this monitor, but it still has that gritty look to it when you're running around (Might be the onboard 8mb 845GL graphics I'm using) But for 2D games I it will be just fine.

Overall it's a great monitor for everyday use. After a couple of days of "testing it out for my Aunt " I have to say. I like it. My eyes don't feel any more straind when using LCD compared to CRT (I use NEC FE700+). And it stays very cool when running too -unlike my hot running NEC. And when you turn on the monitor the picture is instant, no need waiting for it to warm up.

Problem is I never see any deals going on for this one.

Update: Oh yeah, I also have one dead pixel in the lower right quandrant. Funny thing, when it arrived and I hooked it up it didn't have any! Only after like 2 days of use then it appears

I got an HP L1520 LCD not long ago. I know many people would say that HP sucks, but not in the LCD department. All the modern LCDs use panels and electronics of very few manufacturers and are almost exactly the same. It's reasonably priced, has dual inputs (DVI-D and VGA), so that you can hook 2 computers to it at the same time and switch between them using the menu. It's also got Kensington lock device (so that it would be harder to steal) and power on hours count.

This monitor got a very good review at Tomshardware and was labeled the best for gaming, and it's true, it's possible to play any 3D games w/o any image quality problems. And what I like about it the most - there aren't ant dead pixels, not a single one.

Would give two thumbs up to the following of which I own:

KDS Rad 5 and the Samsung SyncMaster 760V TFT

The Rad 5 is quite nice, and cheap!

The Samsung is what I use on a daily basis, although it is a 17" LCD, I actually upgraded to it from the 15" and have nothing but praise for it.

As with all LCDs, gaming is OK, but not suberb!

Good luck on your decision

I ended up getting Samsung 151v. Excellent black color, slick and no complaints at all.

i had a 151v, I didnt really like it. The viewing angle was pretty bad for my liking. The black casing and design sure did look nice though. I took it back and bought a 151p. I enjoy it better than the 151v for 100 bucks more. I bought it at the gateway accecsories store, it was around 500 with free shipping, came in 2 days.

I bought the Samsung SYNCMASTER 570V at buy.com for $346.72 with free shipping. MIR for $50 makes it final price of $296.72.
Best deal I've seen on a quality 15" LCD.

I looked at it before buying but it's older tech (early 2001) and it's 45ms refresh rate made it a poor choice for my multimedia needs, I feel like the extra 50$ was well spent. The 151s is an excellent choice but the cheapest I could find it was 40+$ more and offered features that I didn't need I.E. wider view angle, ability to rotate display. The image quality and refresh rates left little to choose between the 2 so I bought the less expensive of the 2.
I also respectfully disagree with the idea that analog LCDs should be avoided. Reasons I chose to replace my CRT with 1 include the incredibly small footprint, 80% power savings which also results in much less heat radiating from it, and much easier to travel with. The 30ms refresh hasn't effected my gaming or DVD/SVCD/DIVX experience negatively either so I'm quite satisfied, especially since Buy.com replaced the 1 with the dead pixel for me

Because all the signals are digital, so if you buy a LOD that has only D-SUB, the signals will go like this:
digital(from video card)-->to the D-SUB connector and be transfered to analog-->show on the screen

But if it is a DVI input LCD will be like this:
digital(from video card)-->to the DVI connector and still remain digital-->show on the screen

Therefore you want a LCD has DVI input not a analog one, because you want to keep the signals remain the same all the time. Feel free to correct me if I am wrong.

DAMN, MY ENGLISH SUCKS!!!!!
