Response time is rise & fall together.
I know on a 12ms Viewsonic TN panel, the rise was 8ms & the fall was 4ms.
So, if it's simular on the 8ms panels, it would mean that the rise is probably about 5ms and the fall is 3ms.
According to a Viewsonic training session, you want the change to occur in less than half refresh. Which makes sense since you don't want all the time to be taken up with either the pixel being turned on or off. You want some time where it's lit solid. Also, you must also figure that most of the time (esp on TN panels) response time is a best case scenerio when colors are simular. Often, they are higher.
I currently have a Samsung 915N and while it's amazing for colors & brightness & response time, it's not as sharp as my wife's Samsung 711T. You could damn near cut yourself on the text on that monitor. I realize that it's a high end 17" that's as expensive as some 19", but it's amazing. What I really want is a MVA/PVA panel with a good response time. Her's is 22ms and we just got it, so I haven't had a chance to play games on it and see if there's ghosting, but after being used to a Benq 12ms 19" then now the Samsung 915N (which I'm selling) I also can't justify one that ghosts. Even though I don't play games often, I like them to play well.
Anyone know what the fastest MVA/PVA panel is? 16ms is probably fine if since most MVA/PVA panels are close to the rated response. Pref a Samsung panel since I like them best.
Also, I've noticed that the TN panels (esp the new 8ms ones on the Hyundai L90D+ & Samsung 913N/915N), have a low viewing angle. I've noticed that the text on my Samsung 915N isn't as sharp unless I place eye level at the top of the panel and look slightly down at it.
