I am looking for a good quality 19in for gaming. My main concern is image quality and performance playing games, but other things like browsing and Word are kind of important too. I would like to keep it in the $300-$350 range shipped. Maybe a little more if it's really worth it. Thanks in advance.

I use mine for gaming and browsing. Its a proview PS-910. I paid $149 for it, but TCcomputers has it for $199 right now. I only recomend this monitor if 60-70hz doesn't bother your eyes. If I crank it up past that, the left side gets a barely noticeable moire effect. For the price though, this monitor rocks. It is just as good as any sony for games as far as I'm concerned. When everything on the monitor is moving it looks great [edit]---> , not that text looks bad, just not as good as a flatscreen or an FD Trinitron.<---[end edit] I am guessing you won't buy one because it's a "cheap" monitor, but I am PERFECTLY happy with mine. I would recommend it and use the leftover money for a stick of memory or something. If you do a lot of word processing type stuff I would stay away though. I do about the normal amount of e-mail and browse the web quite a bit, and I like it. Like I said though, if lower refresh rates bug your eyes at all....

Anyway, good luck....

Right now I have a Veiwsonic A75f and even playing games on here can bother my eyes after awhile. I also will be typing a lot because I will use this monitor in college most likely. I'll still look into it, but I don't think it would work well for me. Thanks tho, and keep the reommendations coming.

hey hey hey..
Samsung Syncmaster 900NF or their 19' DF modem (first is aperature grille, 2nd = shadow mask).

Syncmasters are the best moniotrs i've ever used!
I've burnt through 2 MAGS and one Viewsonic. Sad really!

The IFT models of the Syncmasters are crazy.

And personally my eyes get annoyed with anything less than 85hz.

Get a Philips 19" CRT. 1024x768@120 Hz 1280x1024@ 85 Hz 640x480@ 150 Hz 800x600@ 120 Hz 1600x1200 @ 85 Hz. Those aren't standard settings, but the monitor functions at them.

I have a Viewsonic PF790. 1280x1024 @ 85hz. I would like to go smaller but at 1600 x1200 but it drops to 75hz. Although some people can't tell, it really bothers my eyes at the refresh rate. But at this setting (1280x1024 @ 85hz) I can stare at my monitor all day basically (which I do.) It's a flat screen so it's mighty cool. Don't think it fits in your price range though.

There are pleny of great monitors in your price range. I have a SONY 19" which is pretty awesome ($850 when I bought it), but you can now get better monitors for half the price. I really like the Samsung DF monitors and that is what I would buy if purchasing now. The LG995 is also a good monitor for the price (around $230 and less).

I second the Viewsonic PF790. You can get it over at Newegg.com for about $370. Nice monitor.

One good monitor that excels in price/performance is the Samsung 900NF.

I also recommend the 900nf (not only because I have it... I did choose it for a reason ). Although it is around the $400 range unless you find a hot deal, it is definitely worth it. Samsung often has a $30 rebate but this month they don't. You could chance waiting until July for new rebates to come out but there is no gauruntee the 900nf will be on there.

1280x1024@100hz and 1600x1200@85hz too.

Although the LG Flatrons seem to be getting some praise... I haven't heard that much about them or have seen one but you might want to check one out.

edit:

<< I only recomend this monitor if 60-70hz doesn't bother your eyes >>

Ugh how could ya stand that? After using a 15" for about 4 years often at 1024x768@60hz, I can definitely tell my eyes are worse. I would think using a monitor in general will cause worse eyesight over time, I'm sure that didn't help at all. After using 85hz or 100hz, I get a headache or my eyes hurt at 60hz and at 75hz even I can use it just not for very long or it gets annoying.

I bought a CTX 19" monitor from Sam's Club about six months ago, it was dirt cheap and looks very nice. Great color and sharpness, can fill the entire screen without black edges and does high refresh rates. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

I'll also say samsung... quite happy with mine and the tube is not made by samsung... far as I know they've never made their own tubes.

I've got an ADI 6P. Not sure how good it is but the reviews I've read seem to like it. I've got no complains for it though. Desktop at 1152x864@72Hz and gaming runs at 800x600@I have no idea what rate. Only thing is that this sucker is REALLY heavy.... Perhaps I'm too used to 17"rs in my office..
