Sure if you put black bars on the top and bottom
You can always adjust vertical span in the OSD so it's flatter and becomes 16:9 aspect ratio.

I would like very much to hear what video cards people are using with their Mitsubishi 2070sb and what results they get. I want to clear up the cause for the text jitter issues.

Crap, I totally didn't think about that. xD The monitor is indeed powered from a splitter box. Unfortunately, I don't have any more wall plugs free. x_x; I guess I'll have to think about how to change the layout, which shouldn't be too tough. I can easily separate less power hungry devices from power hungry ones. At the moment, pretty much everything is mixed up. xD Thanks for the tip! Edit: If, with splitter, you mean that thingie that gives 5 or so plugs when you plug it in one wall plug, like this: http://www.rent-a-lan.nl/images/hardware/163.jpg

Anyway, there are speakers next to my monitor, but I have already removed them before and the jitter still occured, so I placed them back, since it wouldn't make any difference.

I have a Club-3D ATi Radeon X800 XT, which is flashed to XT PE (running on 520/560). I flashed it, because that way Windows would recognize it as an XT PE instead of simply X800, and there's no vanilla X800 on the market. It has always worked perfectly so far, apart from the time when I upgraded the Catalyst drivers to 5.1. They're still quite buggy, making all of my games crash and reboot the PC. :\ Downgrading to 4.12 fixed this problem.

If it helps, I can make a picture of my desktop later today, so you might be able to give recommendations.

I have mine going to an APC ES 500, going to one of the non-UPS outlets. No issues, jitter, or blur. It's running from a PNY 5900 ultra at the moment, soon to be replaced with BFG 6800GT. I'm running at 1280x960 @ 120hz. Using Naviset, the brightness is on 0 and the contrast at 84%. Altec Lansing ATP3 flank each side of the monitor, the sub down below the desk. A Linksys wrt54g sits about 8 feet away.

I have inspected all of the test patterns from Naviset and do not see any Geo problems. Now maybe I don't know what I'm looking for, but I figure if it was bad, it would stick out.

The reason I mentioned a dedicated wall plug was for the people experiencing jittery text - as i'd really like to isolate the possible causes for this. Your APC is probably a well shielded unit - which might not be the case with some other people (same goes for your speakers). If someone were to find that text improves with a dedicated wall plug I'd definitely recommend getting a quality UPS or SURGEprotector (like yours) ASAP.

As to the IBM C220P refresh rates - I found it quite strange that they say on it's spec sheet that it can only do 85 Hz on 1200 by 1600 and 80 hz at 1024 by 1240 - while its maximum RR at max res. and high bandwidth would suggest otherwise.

That's not the maximum refresh rate. That's the optimal refresh rate. And I completely agree. When you turn up the refresh rate really high, the video bandwidth gets limited and the text will become progressively more blurry. You want to use the lowest refresh rate that you can't see flicker. For me, it's 75Hz, which is the VESA standard for flicker free.

SO, has anyone actually seen this C220P by Ibm .... I really don't feel comfortable going on reviews only - even though there are at least four of them - (pc magazine, cadalyst, c-net, deskeng.com) that liked it.

There isn't much in the way of direct comparison though with the top nec - mitsu models. Can anyone report on comparison of the 2070sb (or nec 2141) against a sony fd trinitron based monitor?

I had the P275 as I reported earlier. C220P is the successor of the P275, so it's just a generation a head.
I think all aperture grill monitors are similar, crank up the brightness or refresh rates and get blurry text. But everything is LCD sharp at relatively low brightness levels, 35/90 for brightness/contrast respectively.

virtualgames0 - I didn't see you saying you had the P275 - another thread maybe?

What monitor do you have now, why did you change, and, how do they compare?

thanks.

OK - Have ordered the IBM C220P - I shall observe it in action tomorrow when it arrives at the supplier
before I give the final approval.

Will report.

I checked the C220P (as I said in different thread) and it was beautiful but lacked contrast and deep blacks. Had to reject. Could this be caused by videocard at all (brighness at 0 and contrast at 100 and still no blacks)??

I have the opportunity to get a LACIE ELECTRON BLUE 4 22inch - It's supposed to be a well dressed mitsubishi - though i'm not sure which model Mitsu exactly.

Appreciate your thoughts!

Hey alexandernevsky. I have the 2070SB and have the "jittery" pixels people mention. When I called NEC back in December they tried telling me some stuff about solar flares and crap. The components are as follows:

2070SB
9800 Pro
Original VGA cable
Not sure about original power cable
A Cyberpower 1500AVR battery backup
Dlink DI-624 just to the left of the monitor
I have all my cables routed together to make it look nice but shouldn't be a problem if wired is shielded
Klipsch 5.1 speaker setup

I have to move some stuff around to figure out for sure what the problem is but last night I tried an extra VGA and it hasn't happened again. So we'll see what happens over the next couple of days. Hope this is the type of info you are looking for. I'm about to listen to some music and try to isolate things one at a time. Later.
