I recently upgraded from my old 19in crt to this 22in widescreen lcd from KDS. I bought it from a local guy for 280 USD. Now maybe my eyes are going but to me the thing looks great I do a lot of gaming and movie watching on it and I must say I couldn't be happier with my purchase. No ghosting the colors are vibrant and the screen is bright and crisp and no dead/stuck pixels. the only cons are the stand isn't very adjustible and it does have a LITTLE backlite bleed around the edges when the room is dark. IMO it is a great bargin for the price
The KDS was one of my other choices. I missed CompUSA's sale last week on this monitor. There was also a $20 off coupon that would have brought it down to $260. shipped + tax. My Chimei CMV221D (silver bezel) also has light leak at the top and bottom when watching movies. This seems to be a common complaint about these 22" TN panels.

I replaced the stand on the Chimei with the Ergotron Neo-Flex stand. Big improvement. The Ergotron stand is well made and stable, $29.99 + tax at Staples. They had the silver ring base and the black base models in stock. The silver ring was a perfect match for the silver bezel of the Chimei. Ergotron's website states for <20" monitors but the stand fit my 22" perfectly (Vesa standard mount, hole pattern 100mm x 100mm or 75mm x 75mm). It will rotate 90 degrees to portrait mode, tilt 30 degrees, pan 270 degrees, and will raise or lower 5 - 5 3/4" in landscape mode (depending on the width of your monitor's bottom bezel). The Chimei's bezel is ~1" wide all around, no craptastic speakers.

I have an Acer 22". I keep hearing about people complain about TN panels, but I love my monitor. Blacks aren't bad at all, viewing angle isn't bad (but I sit in one spot), games/movies look great. No regrets.

I agree. Except for the small amount of light leak on the top and bottom (totally black bars) during movies, which I can live with, the picture on my Chimei looks great.

hey MadScientist, how's the horizonatal viewing angle of that Chimei 22" ? When you stand almost all the way to the side, can you still see some of the things on that monitor?

BTW would it be possible for you to take a picture of it?

Yep - I'm happy with my 22" ACER. Picture looks great and all 3 of my kids like watching movies on it - no major problems with the viewing angles.

At 80 degrees off center horizontally I can still see and read text clearly. Of course at that angle you loose a lot of brightness and see color changes.
Here's a couple of good reads on what viewing angle means:

A little bright from the flash.

This may be a bit OT, but with ClearType checked this little MS Power Toy will make your text look even better. Download, install, and run from the applet in Control Panel.

I have a 20 inch 4:3 monitor. That is approximately the same size as a 22 inch widescreen monitor in terms of square inches of viewing if that helps.

John

20 inch 4:3 monitor is 12 inches x 16 inches.

22 inch 16:9 monitor is 11 inches x 19 inches.

By contrast a 20 inch 16:9 monitor is 10 inches x 17 inches.
