Which 6800GT?

Hi there,

I need a video card that will last me a couple of years. I've had my last one (nVidia Quadro 2) for about five years and it's still running great. However, with all the new games requiring 64mb, the time has come for me to upgrade.

Since the 6800GT has 16 pipes and uses PS 3.0 I think it's best best long-term card (Can't afford the Ultra). Now my question is which company makes the best 6800GT and where do you recommend I buy it? (Maybe you know where I could get one cheaper.)

I'm leaning towards the BFG because of the lifetime warranty and the small overclock. I've heard eVGA makes great cards too and I wouldn't mind trying to overclock the card myself. eVGA however only has a 1 year warranty.

So which would you, as experts, recommend?

Also, could anyone recommend a good overclocking program?

Having the BFG I have to give it the  431/1.11 solid, outstanding warranty, and for overclocking I just use coolbits.

I thought I should mention that I'm on vacation in the States at the moment and I only have a limited time to purchase the card. So it has to be available now.

I'll have to wait forever until it finally becomes available in Europe. Not to mention it'll cost me at least an extra $100 over there.

I'm still here about 3 weeks so I can wait a while. Best Buy says the BFG should have hit stores on the 12th, so it can't be much longer. I only mentioned that I won't be here that long because people might recommend the Asus coming out later this year.

EDIT:

Comparing them Card vs. Card, without time as a factor, which would be the better of the two? or does it not really matter that much?

The problem with BB is that it's pre-order, and any card arriving soon is already spoken for. You have a little time left so maybe chumbo or someone else will have it in time, just don't wait too long and end up having to pony up for overnight shipping to get the card in time.

they are all more or less the same

BFG offers the best warrenty but you can preorder a PNY for $339 or something like that which is a pretty sweet price

Abit is the best because of "bullit proof" meaning all Japanese Caps and mosfets which are 4x the price as chineese ones... Problem is cost.

Since BFG offers the best warranty, assuming they don't go bankrupt, I'd say it's the best bet price/performance.

Out of the 3 available now: eVGA, BFG and PNY. PNY is the only one looking shady.

yeah I cancelled my PNY due to several promised ship dates that never went through, so
I got lucky and got an Evga last Friday @ the Egg and it does not disappoint.

I'm quite happy with my eVGA 6800GT. Bought it Thursday, came Friday, gaming today. Excellent card so far.

eVGA is a solid company and builds solid cards. Has been doing so for a while on Nvidia's side.

I would go with BFG. The nice lifetime warranty and overclocked to 370MHZ straight out of the box under warranty.

Don't ask me why but I am finally going to go back to Nvidia and I am going to get a 6800GT. I think the BFG is the card I would go with, so what is the latest rumor on it being available? I would like to get one before Doom 3 but if I don't that is ok. However, I would definitely like it before HL2. Hopefully someone can give me good news and I will work on selling my 9800 Pro ASAP.

I think Compuplus.com has the BFG 6800GT in stock.

Actually we've been keeping track of this at futuremark, and PNY has no known problems. Every other company (BFG, eVGA, XFX, etc.) has had one or more problems.

It looks like their corporate offices are in NY. Does anyone know if they ship the cards from the east coast?
