Which AMD Chip to use SSE 2?

Maybe the next thing after Palomino since all it is is a die shrink and modifications for less heat dissapation.

I think i read somewhere that the Hammer series of processors would have something very similiar and compatible with sse2. But i dont remember where it was.

Neither the Palomino nor the Throughbred (sequel to Palomino, .13micron) will incorporate SSE or SSE2.

AMD is CONSIDERING the use of SSE2 extensions in it's "Hammer" series of X86-64bit processors but nothing has been finalized as yet.

Do you mean the Palomino is still a .18u processor? I must've been mistaken, though AMD would have quite a job making a 1500+MHz .18u Athlon successor... and I hoped .13u would be here sooner

Actually, it has been pretty much finalized that Hammer has SSE2. If I am not mistaking, it is included with developer kits, to go back on that now would be suicidal.

And by the way, the Palomino is not a die shrink (yet) and has architectural improvements other than modifications for lower heat dissipation.

I believe that Hammer does have SSE2. Palomino and derrivitaves do not.
Yes, Palomino is .18mu. They shouldn't have a problem scaling their .18 fab to 2GHz+. The current T-Birds will scale to 1500MHz, Palomino will likely take that to 2GHz or so, and slowly moving to a .15 or .13 fab.

heh, sorry Leo! AMD isn't done with the Athlon after Palomino.. methinks they've got more tricks up their sleeves yet..

pretty impressive driving a .18 micron part up to 2ghz, no?

The Hammer series (K8, x86-64) will have SSE2.

None of the Athlon or Duron dirivitives are scheduled to have SSE or SSE2.

And no damn it the Palimino is not .13um It will be at least Q1/'02 before AMD is ready for .13um.
